Joseph Karam has transcribed the first comprehensive musical score for 'Super Mario Bros.' (right in time, we might add, for its 25th anniversary). Transcriptions of the game's classic music exist elsewhere, but Karam thinks they aren't as faithful as his own. The completist Karam has posted the sheet music (and audio samples) for free on his site, with everything from 'Flagpole Fanfare' to the ...

Though Mario made video game appearances before the launch of 'Super Mario Bros.,' it was the 1985 platforming classic, launched 25 years ago today, that pushed everyone's favorite plumber to the spotlight. The Mario universe spawned countless sequels, an instantly recognizable soundtrack, cartoons and one of the worst video game movies of all time. Happy 25th, Mario! Don't miss the Nintendo recap ...

Gamers (and not just the completely inept ones) have been investigating and developing dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA) software for several years. The system conceivably recognizes a player's skill level based on gameplay, and then adjusts the game's difficulty settings appropriately. Given the innumerable mods of 'Mario' games, it's only fitting that one 'Mario' clone seems to have inspired ...

Producers and directors, take note: the video game movie -- and the inevitable franchise that follows it -- will never succeed as a film. Sure, that may sound hyperbolic, especially since movies like 'Tombraider' and 'Pokémon' have had significant box office success, but the formula, as it is, it will never work.

Conquering a 'Mario' game merely with one's thumbs ceased being impressive decades ago. Bored yet devoted gamers have hence constructed numerous methods of toppling Bowser and his henchmen without having to physically handle a controller, including impressive computer programs and a system which harkens back to the powerless days preceding the Gilded Age.
Controller-free NES junkie Nick Hagman ...

We're sure you've stopped and thought to yourself before, "You know, 'Super Mario Bros.' is pretty good, but I sure wish it was more frustrating." No? Well, it doesn't matter. Even if you've never asked for someone to create a hybrid of 'Super Mario Bros.' and 'Tetris,' you're getting it, anyway. And the results are wonderfully, and childishly, called 'Tuper Tario Tros.'

The Hype: Eons ago, in 1982, video games took a dramatic evolutionary leap as 'Pitfall' and 'Moon Patrol' revolutionized the burgeoning gaming movement with the development of the side-scrolling platform. No longer limited to single-screen action or distant, overhead views, virtual worlds astronomically increased in size and scope.

When it comes to selecting a mate, animals typically pick the partner with the brightest, loudest, and most outlandish natural ornaments. The process definitely applies to humans, as well, and one sexy gamer (who goes by the PhotoBucket handle 'nailchick27') has created a decorative symbol of gaming prowess just for Nintendo nerds, Neatorama reports. There is no surer way to catch a geek's attention than to play the 'Super Mario Bros' theme on an instrument other than a 16-bit gaming console Whether it's piano, a flute, a guitar, or, even more impressively, two guitars! We've seen it played on a Theremin, a Tesla coil, and even by driving an RC car past a series of bottles filled with water. So why, then, do we care about the admittedly ...
