Full Episodes of 'Daily Show' and 'Colbert Report' Now Available Online

Does your 11pm bedtime make getting your daily John Stewart and Stephen Colbert fix difficult? The solution is now as close as your Web browser.

Both the 'Daily Show with John Stewart' and 'The Colbert Report' are available now via Hulu, the ad-supported Web site co-created by NBC Universal and News Corp. Full-length TV shows and movies on Hulu are streamed to a user's desktop and are interspersed with short ads, which can't be skipped. Hulu already has a whole host of popular NBC and Fox shows, plus a collection of movies both new and old.

Portions of the 'Daily Show' and 'The Colbert Report' have been available on the Comedy Central Web site for years, but only in short snippets -- it has been possible to watch entire episodes by clicking among multiple links, but that's far too much to ask of us. [Source: WebWare]

Stephen Colbert Given "Webby Person of the Year" Award

For quite some time, if you Googled "Greatest Living American" and hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" you'd be redirected to faux-pundit Stephen Colbert's page. Colbert achieved that status thanks to asking his legion of fans to "Google Bomb" his name with that term, posting it everywhere possible to increase his ratings. He no longer has that honor, thanks to another would-be who is bribing people with free software if they link to him instead, but Colbert has had an undeniable presence online, and now he's getting some official recognition from the Webby awards.

The Webbys Awards is an annual celebration of online culture; an Oscar for the Internet, if you will. Colbert is to be given the Webby Person of the Year award, granted, because of his skillful use (or exploitation) of the Web. In addition to Google Bombing, Colbert dominated his own Wikipedia page and managed to get thousands to donate at DonorsChoose.org.

Other winners this year include a lifetime achievement award for David Bowie, while Flickr's hardcore fanbase won the Community award. And, in the Weird category, the winner is our favorite LOLCat hub, I Can Has Cheezburger. [Source: Webby Awards via CNN]

New 'Daily Show' Site Offers 13,000 Free Videos

For many young Americans, the 'Daily Show with Jon Stewart' is the only source for news. Until recently, 'Daily Show' addicts could only access a limited number of clips from shows past on the Comedy Central Web site. Yesterday, though, the Daily Show launched a beta version (meaning not finished) of its own dedicated Web site visitors mine through a 13,000 video clip archive of segments that go all the way back to 1999 (the year Stewart replaced original host Craig Kilborn).

For now, the site offers roughly 7,000 clips for viewing online, with the rest to come by the end of the year. Unfortunately, whole episodes will not be available, but let's face it, the show is sometimes uneven anyway, so why not stick to the best stuff?

Luckily, it's easy to find: Searching through the content using tags such as "Indecision 2000" and "George W. Bush" or "Iraq" is the most effective way to bring up a treasure trove of old footage.

Die-hard Stephen Colbert devotees, for example, will find over 500 clips to wade through. We searched for Colbert's "This Week in God," our personal favorite, and were greeted with a chronological list of specific clips -- "Falwell Law" and "Girls Gone Humble" -- we could watch.

Frankly, for 'Daily Show' fans, the site rocks. And it's free!

Google's Greatest: Stephen Colbert

Comedy Central's political shaman Stephen Colbert is undeniably hilarious. But is he the greatest living American? According to Google, yes he is. And here's why. Colbert recently told an audience before a taping of his show, 'The Colbert Report,' that he wanted to be the first result pulled up for a Google search of the phrase, "giant brass balls". It just so happened that a group from the search engine optimization firm, Alchemist Media, were present at the taping -- only, they felt "giant brass balls" would be too easy. Why not go for something bigger? And so began the Google bombing campaign to put Colbert on top for a search of the phrase, "greatest living American."

Google bombing is the practice of getting tons of people on the Web to direct massive amounts of links to a page using particular keywords. For example, a few years ago some Google bombers landed George W. Bush's biography on the top slot for a search of the phrase, "miserable failure." In response Google tweaked its ranking algorithm slightly. It'll be interesting to see if the company agrees or disagrees with this most recent exaltation.
