Solid Alliance's 'Crazy Earphones' Are Just That

A new line of earbuds from Solid Alliance has drawn attention for its, shall we say, less than palatable designs, and as a public service to our readers, we would like to agree with all the haters. Beauty may reside in the eye of the beholder, but so does ugly.

The increasingly derided and aptly named Crazy Earphones line consists of four truly dumbfounding designs: sushi roll, banana, cat paw, and Frankenstein bolt. (And they're only $22, or ¥2,000, a pair!) The kitty paw and Frankenstein 'buds may appeal to a certain consumer, but sushi? Ripened bananas? We have a sneaking suspicion that whatever niche market Solid Alliance was attempting to target is nonexistent. Or, at best, still too small to cover production costs.

We could be wrong. For all we know, this line of earbuds could explode into a culinary-cute-tastic headphone phenomenon. We just doubt it, that's all. [From: Geek Stuff 4 U, via Engadget]

USB Business Cards

Enough forest has has been slaughtered for the promotion of your business. Now, you can replace your paper business cards with the new USB business cards by SolidAlliance of Japan. Unlike your traditional 3.5 x 2-inch slips of dead tree, these thumb drives are good for much more than listing a phone number, address and impressive sounding title. Each can hold one-gigabyte's worth of facts, PowerPoint presentations, photos, video and even an official company anthem if you happen to have one.

Great, but at $225 for a package of five, it's doubtful you'll actually want to give any of these away -- especially when the paper variety can be had for much less, and even free. And in an age when contact details can easily be exchanged wirelessly via Bluetooth, these cards seem like waste of time, money and materials. Then again, let's not forget that they come from Japan, where the act of handing out and receiving business cards is not done lightly, but is a ritual of respect.
