Lady Gaga Pimps Her Own Earbuds in New Music Video

We don't want to give Lady Gaga any more hype than what she already amasses on a daily basis, but her new commercial video for "Bad Romance" positively deserves comment. Besides googly anime eyes, white vinyl body suits, razor blade sunglasses, 'True Blood'-inspired travel coffins, and a whole lot of fire, "Bad Romance" features a staggering number of gadget product placements, including the Beats by Dre laptop, Parrot by Starck's iPod speakers, and -- of course -- Lady Gaga's own Heartbeats headphones.

While "Bad Romance" lacks the narrative and awesome wheelchair/pop-and-lock dance sequence of the fantastical, Jonas Akerlund-directed "Paparazzi," it's still a delicious piece of eye candy. What's more, Lady Gaga wears at least one of the outfits and three pairs of the crazy shoes presented in Alexander McQueen's alien-inspired Spring 2010 ready-to-wear show. The pièce de résistance, though, is the bear-skin dress with a bear-head train she dons toward the end. Please watch the video after the break and revel in this ridiculousness. [From: YouTube]

New John Mayer Video Features You via Webcam

In between his hectic schedule of making beautiful women swoon with his trademark dulcet tones, and making sure that his eyes are never more than 50-percent open, John Mayer, amazingly, has found time to revolutionize online music videos.

His latest single, "Heartbreak Warfare," from the album 'Battle Studies,' introduces what's being called the world's first "augmented reality music video," allowing fans to have cameos in the video as themselves. The true Mayer Maniac can log on to the singer-songwriter's Web site, turn on her webcam, and hold up a specific icon in front of the camera to activate the video. If the icon is aligned correctly, the video will play with the (probably shrieking) fan as an extra in the background. Getting into Mayer's virtual universe is easy; all you need is a webcam and the special augmented reality marker, which is downloadable from the site. Mashable reports that there are still a few kinks in the system, and that it can be tricky to align the marker exactly as needed. But then again, it's a pretty complex operation, as this Wired interview with Mayer (video also after the break) clearly demonstrates.

Webcams Bridge Band's Global Fans in Wild Video

Without question, the above is one of the most captivating viral videos to have crossed our monitors here at Switched in ages. Not to mention one of the most mysterious

Of Japanese origin (where else?), this piece of cyber-surrealism was directed by Masashi Kawamura, Hal Kirkland, Magico Nakamura, and Masayoshi Nakamura as a music video for SOUR, a quirky, three-piece band. 'Hibi no neiro' (translated: "tone of everyday") reminds us of this similarly artsy, now-legendary skate video, but kicks the eye-rubbing and head-shaking level up a few notches. The band had its fans film themselves via webcam for the extraordinarily coordinated and edited production. Just watch the dang thing.

New Music Video Shot Entirely on iPhone

Apple's iPhone, with its seemingly infinite apps and functions, has inspired a multitude of innovative ideas and uses. Pre-teen iPhone wunderkinds in Singapore (Doodle Kids) and the United States (Math Time) have developed impressive and popular apps.

Now that the iPhone 3GS possesses video capabilities, it shouldn't be a surprise that an enterprising company recently decided to film a music video completely with an iPhone. Using only the iPhone and a homemade steadying device (to eliminate jerky movements and shaky closeups), Showdown Productions, LLC created a 2:30 minute video for the band BJSR, according to PSFK.

The surprisingly professional quality, the easy on-the-go Macbook editing (according to Showdown spokesman Kyle Brock), and the iPhone's size and weight should lead to more music videos, especially for indie and unsigned bands. Once Apple upgrades the iPhone's audio capabilities and battery life, digital shorts and full-length films should be just around the corner. [From: Wired via PSFK]

21st Century Broadway: 'Web Site Story'

The Internet has changed basically everything -- most prevalently, the dating habits of its users -- and the College Humor crew decided to take on romance. The team reimagined the world of 'West Side Story' as if it had happened in the Web-obsessed age of 2009. 'Web Site Story' follows the story of Tony and Maria, a couple that met through Facebook, tweets about their lives, and sends each other E-vites for secret balcony meetings. Clicking mouses replace the original's classic finger-snapping routines, and the mini-musical hooked us with lines like "Pandora, I've just found a site called Pandora /I'm suddenly equipped like I'm hanging out in hipster bars."

Madonna, Phish, Neil Young Videos Banned from YouTube

Madonna, the star whose BlackBerry addiction might just have had something to do with her recent unsuccessful marriage, has recently been banned from YouTube after Google and the singer's label, Warner Music Group, failed to reach a content-sharing agreement.

Maddy isn't the only celeb supposedly prevented from having their content posted on the site, as all other Warner artists -- everyone from AC/DC, Bjork and Josh Groban to Phish, Neil Young, and T.I. -- have similarly been recipients of the ban hammer, at least for the official Warner Music videos (believe us, there's plenty of other random videos of all those bands still alive and well on YouTube).

It's unclear exactly why the ban is being put in place, and whether it's Warner or Google that is ultimately responsible for the tiff, but the repercussions will likely be that streaming the Material Girl's classic '80s videos will be a little harder -- but not much. There are certainly plenty of other music video sites out there these days. [From: Silicon Alley Insider]

New Radiohead Video 'Filmed' With Lasers

Radiohead have consistently proven themselves to be unpredictable and at the technological forefront of the music industry. Their latest experiment however, takes things in a surprising new direction. The band's new video for its song 'House of Cards' was filmed without any cameras.

The media player-visualizations-on-steroids video was created using a pair of 3D scanners: One from a company called Velodyne, which uses 64 lasers rotating at 900 times per minute, to capture outdoor scenes and environments, and another from Geometric Informatics, which was used to create real-time 3D models of people for close ups. The data from these scanners was then processed and manipulated to create the visualizations seen in the video. Slightly lost? The making-of video should help.

If that wasn't enough, Radiohead is handing over the piles of complex data to fans to manipulate and create their own videos and visualizations from (if your home computer is capable of the intense number-crunching required). If you just so happen to have tons of time and a super powerful PC sitting around, you can then upload your creation to the 'House of Cards' video channel on YouTube. Or just play with the interactive 3D version of the video here. [Source: Google Code - Radiohead]

EMI Signs Up With With YouTube

EMI Signs Up With With YouTube
Just days after stripping its tracks of copy protection for the iTunes Plus Store, record label EMI has inked a deal with YouTube to bring videos by EMI artists to the site and eventually allow users to incorporate its artists' songs into their own YouTube postings.

EMI is the last of the "Big Four" record labels to sign with YouTube, joining Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and the Warner Music Group. Its artists include the likes of The Beatles, Coldplay and Gorillaz.

With all of the big record labels now on board, and content deals in place with major TV networks and sports organizations, YouTube has made huge strides in transforming itself into a legit, copyright-friendly entity (no doubt due to the fact that Google is now in the driver's seat). The last major threat that remains (for now, at least) is, of course, that pesky $1 billion lawsuit from Viacom, parent company of Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and others.
