11 Quick Fixes for Gadget Disasters

Dropping your cell phone in the pool (or worse) or spilling coffee on your computer keyboard doesn't necessarily mean that you have to buy a new one. Such last-minute disasters happen all the time. As a public service for our klutzy readers, or those who choose to take a 'MacGruber' approach to tech repair, we've put together a list of quick fix solutions for your gadget and tech mishaps or emergencies. We've scoured the Web (and pestered the IT guys) to compile this list, and, while some are tested methods of providing a temporary fix on the cheap, a few solutions are intended to be used only as a last resort option. (If you decide on a whim that your keyboard needs cleaning, put it in the dishwasher, and find that it no longer works, sorry, but you're on your own, folks.) Regardless, we hope these help.

Girl Accidentally Texts Dad With Sex Confession, or Did She?

Advice from Switched: Don't Text Your Dad About Losing Your Virginity
Okay, so we're 99.9 percent sure this a hoax, but the story simply won't die.

According to the tale circulating around the Inter-Webs with this photo, 18-year-old Elizabeth Frisinger, accidentally texted her father to brag about losing her virginity on a beach. Of course, 'Dad' wasn't very impressed -- you can see the alleged conversation above.

Have you ever accidentally sent an embarrassing text message to somebody?

All that said, the story isn't all that far fetched. We've texted the wrong person more than once, even before picking up the iPhone with its IM-style threaded text messages. Fake or not, the moral of the story is clear -- before you send anything of a sensitive nature via SMS, make sure you're sending it to the right person. [From: BoingBoing]

Update: Alas, it's all a hoax. "Elizabeth Frisinger?" The image is actually of actress Janna Beth, as revealed on Zimbio.

Medical Employee in Hot Water After Careless MySpace Comments

Medical Employee in Hot Water After Careless MySpace CommentsWe're not exaggerating when we say that social networks, if used without considering the consequences of posting certain types of content, can be dangerous to your education or your continued employment.

We've seen time and time again how careless comments and pictures posted online for all to see have gotten people into trouble, and here's yet another example. This time, it's another job-related mess, with OB/GYN office employee Stephanie Sicilia saying some rather unkind things about people on her MySpace page -- and getting hit with a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act complaint.

It's against the law for doctors or their employees to share any personally identifiable information about patients, and while Sicilia's comments didn't call anyone out by name, the comments were rather descriptive, not to mention spiteful and insulting. One comment, made in public on her page, said about one woman: "her stories are entertaining but I've only slept with as many people as she has had abortions." She referred to one collection of patients as "the tramp troop." It's unlikely there is quite enough legal grounds for a proper lawsuit here, but we wouldn't be surprised if a stiff reprimand is in the very near future for Sicilia... if not an outright firing.
