Gift Guide: Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone

Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone (Style-o-Phile, Cost No Object)

Thinking of springing for the veritable super car of cell phones? Lamborghini has saved you the trouble of searching high and low by releasing a phone of its own. Housed in black titanium and hand-brushed stainless steel, the Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini (price TBD) was inspired by the Murcielago LP640, from the trademark Taurus bull on the central button down to the signature on the battery cover. Dual LCD displays crafted from 60.5 carats of scratch-resistant sapphire complement the black, minimalist backlit keyboard, 2-megapixel camera and reasonable seven-hour talk time. It's made by luxury phone manufacturer Vertu, which means it's created with folks who value ease-of-use and bling over the latest techno specs, making it perfect for the high-rolling novice in your life who still needs to stay in touch. But get it while you can. With only 1,963 units manufactured – a tribute to the year Lamborghini was founded –they're about as rare as the real deal.

Lamborghini to Go Green With Hybrids by 2015

Responding to the decidedly 21st-century dilemma of "greening" the king of supercars, car manufacturer Lamborghini believes it has come up with an answer. Its newest vehicle will use a small electric motor when moving at slow speeds, but will allow the full power of its gas-guzzling engine to take hold on the open road.

The move towards hybrid technology comes shortly after Lamborghini's recent announcement of its Estoque family sedan. The company plans to start actually building these hybrid freaks of vehicular nature by 2015.

So, when you're driving your $500,000 sports car around town in your $25,000 suit after your $400 dinner hoping to pick up on members of the fairer sex, you can now save a few bucks on gas while doing so. [From: D-vice]

Man Builds Lamborghini in Basement, Then Has to Dig It Out

In what could just as easily be the plot of a John Hughes movie from the '80s, a man in Wisconsin named Ken Imhoff spent 17 years building a Lamborghini in his basement (he'd apparently fallen in love with it upon seeing the movie 'Cannonball Run'). Then, after he finished assembling it, he had to deal with the next challenge: namely, how to get the car out.

To sum up, he ended up hiring an excavator to dig down into the foundation of his house, at which point the car was itself pulled out with the excavator.

"I was like an expectant father watching it come through the wall," Imhoff told The Telegraph of the experience. "I was literally shaking and running the supposed plan over and over in my head. "Have I overlooked anything? Is some of the wall going to fall on my work of seventeen years?..."

With his neighbors gathered around to see what lay beneath the car's covering blanket, he says the whole experience was rather like an artist unwrapping his long-awaited masterpiece. "I had never seen it in the light of day either."

Hopefully he's still deep enough into his midlife crisis to use the thing to score a few chicks. [From: The Telegraph]

Ridiculously Rich Guy Builds 'Batcave' Driveway for Lamborghinis

In order to cheer you up during these economically painful times, we figured the best thing to do would be to share the excess of those who are better off than you.

We're not sure what is more hair-pullingly annoying: The fact that this guy has enough money to build himself an underground driveway (complete with hydraulic-powered lift) to store and hide his Lamborghinis, or the fact that he owns no less than four of the aforementioned super expensive Italian luxury cars.

Some blogs have referred to this a "Batcave," which is a bit of an overstatement (there is clearly no super computer or wall of Batarangs), but the truth is, we're just jealous. We want a hidden driveway to store our Schwinns in. [From: Gizmodo, Via: TechEBlog]

Sports Car 'Vroom' Sound Scientifically Proven to Arouse Women

Sound of Exotic Engines Scientifically Proven to Arouse Women
If you thought men who drive exotic sports cars were just compensating for whatever nature didn't grace them with -- well, you might be right. Laugh all you like, but it turns out those cars might actually make them more successful with the ladies, as a new scientific study has shown that the mere sound of a high-end engine emanating from a vehicle like the Ferrari 430 above causes women to become aroused.

When women in a study heard the sound of exotic machinery from Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini, they showed "significant peaks" in testosterone production -- a sign of arousal. However, when they heard the rather more lumpy tones of a VW Polo economy car, their arousal level actually decreased. So, women, say all you like about how much you appreciate a man who drives an efficient car to save the environment, we now know what you really want. [From: The Telegraph, via Asylum]
