Tapulous Releases New Coldplay 'Tap Tap' Game (Hands-On Review)

'Tap Tap Revenge,' an iPhone and iPod Touch game with a similar style of play to 'Dance Dance Revolution' and 'Guitar Hero,' has become the most installed app on the two Apple devices, attracting millions of downloads, according to comScore. This week, Tapulous, the makers of the commute-killing masterpiece, released its latest 'Tap Tap' iPhone app - 'Tap Tap Revenge Coldplay.' For this special-edition installment of the franchise, which includes 'Tap Tap Dance' and 'Revenge 2,' the designers paired up with the Grammy-winning band to produce an entrancing and hypnotic game fueled by 10 popular tracks.

While we are, admittedly, not avid fans of Coldplay, the game never loses its appeal. The enhanced graphics, mesmerizing array of colors, and flowing backdrops remain entertaining throughout all four difficulty levels, although we probably appeared to be violently abusing our defenseless iPod while attempting to play the "Extreme" setting. The multiplayer function, also available on some of the other titles, adds an extra dimension to gameplay. If you're sharing a gadget, just be careful not to get so animated that you headbutt your opponent (although that might have aided us in our over-matched contest against a piano player with far more dexterous fingers than our own).

If you enjoy killing time with 'Tap Tap,' but Coldplay's not your thing, the recent release 'Revenge 2' features over 150 free songs from a variety of genres including rock, hip-hop and country. [From: Tapulous]

'Watchmen' Game Coming to iPhone and iPod Touch

Unless you've been living under a rock (or perhaps in Iraq), you've been hearing about the release of a little low-budget indie art film called 'Watchmen.' Based on the twelve-issue comic book by renowned comic writer Alan Moore -- and now available in all-in-one form as a graphic novel - 'Watchmen' is one of the most beloved franchises in all of comic-dom. And today, Warner Brothers announced that it will be publishing -- in addition to 'Watchmen: End is Nigh' for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 -- an online, multiplayer game for iPhone called 'Watchmen: Justice Is Coming.'

Described as a "multiplayer online adventure fighting game," 'Justice' lets you and thousands of other characters play at the same time in one virtual world, whose missions, areas and secrets are constantly being updated by the developers. While it's not quite as advanced as something like 'World of Warcraft' (the most popular, massively-multiplayer game ever), users can chat with and battle other characters as they move through the adventure. Players can even customize their avatars' looks and skills before hitting the mean streets of Manhattan.

'Justice' will be coming to the iPhone and iPod touch in the next couple of weeks. For more on the game, check out G4TV's video preview and interview with the developers. [From: G4TV]

Marware Game Grip Provides Handles for iPhone Gaming

We've seen a few accessories for augmenting the gaming experience on the iPhone that would give the device awesome functions similar to a game controller, such as the elusive and yet-to-materialize iControlPad and the totally fake JoyPod.

Well, Marware's Game Grip is sort of like that -- silicone sleeves that your phone fits into -- except that it doesn't actually do anything beyond providing 'handles' for your phone while you game. Oh, and it exists. So let's refer to it as the 'enjoyment enabler' of your iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G that can be used with headphones (just like normal), can be charged while gaming (just like normal), and has a 'cord management system' (kind of not normal).

If that's not enough to convince you to reach for your wallet, the "lifetime guarantee" and ludicrously zany look of the thing will probably get you to bite... it's $49.99 and available for pre-order right now.

Gameloft to Make iPhone Games

Will your iPhone replace your NintendoDS and PSP for on-the-go gaming goodness? Probably not, but that doesn't mean that game publishers aren't going to try to make it a viable gaming platform.

EA and Sega both demonstrated their games made using the iPhone SDK during last week's press event, and now Gameloft -- the biggest cahuna in terms of worldwide mobile game publishing -- has committed to developing games for the iPhone as well. Over 15 titles are expected in 2008 from the 'Loft (which sounds a bit ambitious, honestly), and, in related news, iD software founder John Carmac has confirmed that his company will be entering the iFray as well.

Now, get those fingers out of your nose and start exercising them.
