Eye-Fi Doubles the Speed of Its Wi-Fi Camera Cards

Frustrated by somewhat sluggish transfers from your otherwise spectacular Eye-Fi card? Fret not, as the company has just announced a forthcoming update at Photokina that will reportedly enable new and existing Eye-Fi owners to make "the upload of digital photos from camera to computer twice as fast." Also of note, as of October 5th, users can even add features that aren't already included on their card and renew annual services by tapping into the updated Eye-Fi Manager Web application. In related news, the outfit will be pushing its wares to Japan and Canada by the year's end, and in even more related news, Eye-Fi now supports direct photo uploads to Apple's MobileMe and the AdoramaPix service.

WhereverTV Brings International Channels To Your TV

Not only is this thing powered by Neuros, it even resembles the Neuros OSD. Announced today at the SINO Consumer Electronics Show, the brashly named WhereverTV acts as a liaison between your Internet-connected PC and TV, delivering "hundreds of live international television channels in more than 40 languages from almost 100 countries around the world."

The 5- x 5- x 1-inch box must be simultaneously connected to your router and TV, and once the tele is flipped on, you'll be able to browse, manage and stream scads of international TV channels from wherever you are in the world. Granted, we still prefer the flexibility of the ZvBox (which allows you to tap into all facets of Internet video, not just one segment), but for just $199.99 with no activation or recurring charges (available now at Amazon), this could be just the thing for foreign television junkies or folks currently living outside of their homeland. U.S. Online Gambling Laws Under Investigation by EU

EU Investigating U.S. Online Gambling LawsThe European Union is launching an investigation into whether U.S. online gambling laws violate world-trade rules.

The investigation stems from a 2006 ban on credit cards and banks transferring payments to online gambling sites based overseas. That law effectively locked out all foreign gambling outlets, but left room for home-grown sites to flourish.

Clive Hawkswood, chief executive of the Remote Gambling Association, is "delighted" by the EU's investigation. "We cannot simply sit on the sidelines and watch while our members, who are already badly bruised by unlawful U.S. acts, suffer the double whammy of being prosecuted for activities whilst U.S. industry is not," he said.

In 2006 the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled that the U.S. could prevent online gambling to protect public order and morals, but that it was breaking trade law by not evenly targeting domestic companies who offer remote betting on horse and dog races.
