Gift Tip: Super-Secret Spy Lens

Super-Secret Spy Lens (Video Junkie, under $50)

So often ethics, morality, and general anxiety disorder get in the way of a great photo. Not so with the Super-Secret Spy Lens, which attaches to the lens on the end of your DSLR camera and allows you to shoot left, right, up, or down (it swivels 360 degrees), all while looking like you're shooting straight ahead. It doesn't affect the quality of the end photo, which makes it as great for paparazzi as it is for kids. For $50 it comes with an adapter for your go-to lens, and each one thereafter is an extra five bucks.

Six Geek Movies for Your Nerdy Loved Ones

It's not like geeks really need another reason to stay home and watch movies in their pajamas while surfing the Web on their laptop and eating snickerdoodles on the sofa, but here are six more anyway.

The folks at Download Squad have compiled a list of six DVDs to make your favorite tech nerd happy this holiday season, ranging from the story of a robot who finds love in 'WALL-E,' to a computer hacker that finds love in 'WarGames,' to yet another young computer hacker that finds love (and Angelina Jolie) in the cult-classic 'Hackers.' They all somehow manage to save the world in the process. And they are all apparently the same movie, come to think of it.

Still, good flicks all. [From: Download Squad]

Gift Guide: LG BD300 Blu-Ray Player

Netflix.com
(Video Junkie, Under $100)

The premiere DVD rental-by-mail service has gotten so tempting it's bordering on the criminally insanely awesome. Netflix fans?and they are legion?already love that they can create a wish-list queue of movies and TV shows online, and then have them arrive a day or two later in the mailbox to watch (or horde, as the case may be) at their leisure with no late fees (among the plans, users can choose to have unlimited rentals per month, with from one to three DVDs delivered at a time). To sweeten the deal, Netflix has also thrown in unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows too, watchable on a PC or Mac as well as a handful of settop devices. The only thing left for them to do is start writing doctor's notes to give our boss, so we can spend our days catching up on all the movies we've ever missed.

Price: $84 (for 6-month, 2 DVDs at-at-time gift certificate)

Gift Guide: Vizio VOJ370F 37-inch HDTV

Vizio VOJ370F 37-inch HDTV
(Video Junkie (TV/Movies), Under $1,000)

As the economy comes crashing down upon us all like a financial tsunami, feel special pity for the TV manufacturers who have had to drop their prices through the floor just to stay afloat. Vizio's low-cost line of HDTVs already garner top reviews in terms of bang-for-buck, and their 37-inch model is criminally cheap for what you get: a sleek-looking, full-1080p set with built-in speakers and stand, and a bevy of hook-up options, including three HDMI ports -- rarely seen on low-cost models. Short of mugging Santa for his goodie bag, this is as cheap as Christmas HD joy gets.

Flip MinoHD
(Traveler, Under $250)

Flip Video has virtually cornered the market on low-cost video cameras, simply because they make them better than anyone else: they're simple enough for a grandma to figure out, built rugged enough for a child to handle, and look nice enough that you'd actually carry it around. The latest edition to their Flippin' family is the MinoHD, which weighs just 3.3 ounces, fits in a pocket and records HD video in the 720p flavor?up to one hour at top-quality stored on its 4GB memory, which is transferable to a PC or Mac using its built-in USB plug. Unless you're thinking of going pro, you'll never need to buy a full-priced camcorder again.
