Gift Tip: iFrogz Custom Headphones for iPhone/iPod

If there's anyone who's raking in the iPhone cash besides Apple, it's the third-party accessory makers. From cases to speakers to, um, telescopes, there is no shortage of add-ons to tailor your iPhone to whatever your needs may be. ifrogz, a fairly well-known Apple accessory and custom-skin maker, hopes to take things to another level, though, with its customizable iPhone/iPod EarPollution headphones.

Starting with your choice of base headphone, you can then customize the color of the bands, side pieces, speakers, and cushions. Then, if you're feeling especially perky, ifrogz allows you to choose from one of a wide assortment of art patterns that overlay the outside shell of the headphones. Of course, if you choose the earbuds as a base, your customization options are more limited.

While the selection of prints isn't too shabby, letting people use their own photos for designs the way Pure Digital's Flip cameras do would surely broaden the headphones' appeal. Our only other issue? There doesn't appear to be a built-in mic or remote on any of the headphones, once again limiting the headphones' appeal, especially to iPhone users. Then again, even Apple's own headphones with mic and remote don't completely support the iPhone (the volume buttons won't work), so maybe the point is moot... [From: Walyou]

Seriously, we feel a little more street just by lookin' at these things. The followup to the smashing over-the-head Beats headphones are here, and yes, they deliver sound so big, you'll think you've got speakers in your ears (Dre's words, not ours). They also feature what's touted as the planet's first "tangle-free earphone cable," in-ear noise isolation and a trio of cone tips to ensure the most comfortable fit for every gangster's ear. Get your "ding ding dong... ring-gading ding ding dong" on in one to two weeks for $149.95. Holla.

Gift Guide: Yamaha NX-BO2 Bluetooth Speaker

Yamaha NX-BO2 Bluetooth Speaker
(Music Lover, Under $250)

With digital music capabilities and Bluetooth wireless built into virtually any gadget you buy these days, Yamaha's NX-B02 is the missing piece of the portable audio puzzle?a wireless speaker. Stream those trapped songs from a cellie or laptop to it using Bluetooth (and yes whiners, it supports A2DP, for high-quality stereo sound) and leave the cables at home for once. It uses disposable AA batteries for total wireless freedom for up to 7 hours, but also comes with an AC adapter when they run dry. And in case your gear doesn't support the B-tooth, there's an audio input jack?but then doesn't that kill the whole point of this thing?

Gift Guide: Beats By Dr. Dre headphones

Beats By Dr. Dre headphones
(Music Lover, Under $500)

Noise-canceling cans have become the rage among frequent-traveler types, due to their ability to preserve one's sanity by blocking out the cacophony of the real world, at least for a little while. But they're also a great way to enjoy tunes in the best way possible by knocking out the interference of outside sound. High-end cable company Monster worked with legendary hip-hop producer/performer Dr. Dre to put out their own version, and they've done a stellar job. The Beats put out great sound, have an extra comfy fit and are just as easy on the eyes as they are on the ears.

Gift Guide: Nintendo DS Korg DS-10

Nintendo DS Korg DS-10
(Music Lover, Under $50)

Presumably targeted at precocious, modern-day Mozarts or budding sound engineers, the Korg DS-10 is a full-fledged synthesizer/sequencer/music machine. Based on the legendary Korg MS-10 keyboard synthesizer, this software version takes advantage of the DS's split screens to make robust tune creation relatively easy, and, well, completely portable. And just to state the obvious, this isn't a video game in any way, so if tone-deaf, rhythmless little Bobby gives you a blank stare after unwrapping the box, don't blame us. (L'il Wayne, on the other hand, would go crazy for it.)

Gift Guide: Tenori-on

Tenori-on
(Music Lover, under $5,000)

The crème de la crème of niche musical gadgets, the Tenori-on was developed by Japanese gaming god and conceptual artist Toshio Iwai. To understand it, you really have to see it?hey, here's a link!?but the gist is that it's a pad with a 16 x 16 array of dots that both trigger sounds and lights, letting you created a seemingly unlimited soundscape that you can hook up to your PC or save to an SD card for sharing. Sure it's pricey, but any music buff will happily while away the rest of their life playing with this thing.

Gift Guide: Aiaiai Y-Com/Y-Model Earbuds

Aiaiai Y-Com/Y-Model Earbuds
(Music Lover, Under $100)

While there are seemingly as many headphones out there as there are heads, few compare to the Y-Com from Aiaiai. Available in a host of subtle color combos and in both iPhone and iPhone 3G versions (the latter is called the Y-Model), they're full of design tweaks: the Y-shaped plastic bit and thicker cords prevent tangled wires, and the inline mic (complete with button) makes sure you're not giving up any of Apple's functionality. They sound great, and come with three sets of earbuds -- both silicone and foam, depending on your ears' preference.
