Which New BlackBerry Should You Get?

It's an exciting time for BlackBerry aficionados, thanks to the recent release of two new models that are radical departures from anything manufacturer RIM has ever offered before. The BlackBerry Storm, which incorporates the first BlackBerry touchscreen (heresy according to some fans who feel that a real QWERTY keyboard is the essence of BlackBerrys); and the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, which is RIM's first clamshell-style flip phone.

We can't tell you how many of our 'Berry-lovin' friends and colleagues have asked whether they should get the Flip or the Storm, so we made a little video outlining the pros and cons of each, which we hope will help make the decision easier.

One thing we forgot to mention: Unlike the Storm, the Flip has built-in Wi-Fi, which means you can get fast surfing speeds (and less expensive Internet calls) whenever you're in a Wi-Fi hotspot. Okay, amendment to our video is done. You can watch the video now.

iPhone or BlackBerry?

Gift Guide: Yamaha NX-BO2 Bluetooth Speaker

Yamaha NX-BO2 Bluetooth Speaker
(Music Lover, Under $250)

With digital music capabilities and Bluetooth wireless built into virtually any gadget you buy these days, Yamaha's NX-B02 is the missing piece of the portable audio puzzle?a wireless speaker. Stream those trapped songs from a cellie or laptop to it using Bluetooth (and yes whiners, it supports A2DP, for high-quality stereo sound) and leave the cables at home for once. It uses disposable AA batteries for total wireless freedom for up to 7 hours, but also comes with an AC adapter when they run dry. And in case your gear doesn't support the B-tooth, there's an audio input jack?but then doesn't that kill the whole point of this thing?

Gift Guide: Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP)

Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP)
(Gamer, Under $250)

Whether your gaming sympathies lie with the XBox, Wii, DS or PlayStation 3, we can all agree on one thing: the PSP is a pretty awesome piece of multimedia machinery, despite not being the end-all be-all everyone demands of it. The newest update, the so-called PSP 3000, brings a welcome power boost under the hood, a longer 6-hour battery life, and a thinner, smaller, lighter body. At less than two bills, no other portable gaming system?or portable media player for that matter?comes close.

Gift Guide: Flip MinoHD

Flip MinoHD
(Traveler, Under $250)

Flip Video has virtually cornered the market on low-cost video cameras, simply because they make them better than anyone else: they're simple enough for a grandma to figure out, built rugged enough for a child to handle, and look nice enough that you'd actually carry it around. The latest edition to their Flippin' family is the MinoHD, which weighs just 3.3 ounces, fits in a pocket and records HD video in the 720p flavor?up to one hour at top-quality stored on its 4GB memory, which is transferable to a PC or Mac using its built-in USB plug. Unless you're thinking of going pro, you'll never need to buy a full-priced camcorder again.

Gift Guide: Gorillapod Focus

Gorillapod Focus
(Traveler, Under $250)

The last thing shutterbugs want to lug around on vacation is a big, bulky, heavy tripod. Unfortunately sometimes you need one to get the shot you want, which is what makes Joby's line of flexible, fold-up tripods so excellent. Their newest Focus model is, well, focused on professional or prosumer types (of both the still and video varieties) who tend to have heavy duty and heavyweight equipment. Though the Focus weighs a petite 1.1 pounds, it can powerlift up to 11, making it the resident strongman in the mini-tripod market and a must-have for snap-happy globetrotters.

Gift Guide: Tom Bihn Checkpoint Flyer Laptop Bag

Tom Bihn Checkpoint Flyer Laptop Bag
(Traveler, under $250)

As if removing your coat, belt, shoes, and dignity weren't enough for the snoopy TSA guys protecting our nation's airports, you still gotta break out the laptop and put it in its own tub for a scan. Except now it turns out you don't? if you have the right gear. Tom Bihn, maker of fine luggables, worked with the TSA to develop a bag that would allow screeners to X-ray it with an unobstructed view of a laptop. Each bag comes with a distinct padded liner that can be used with other Bihn bags, so should your traveler want a new bag, he or she can still use the liner. And of paramount importance: There are 10 pockets besides the main one to fit various other portables.

Gift Guide: R2-D2 Aquarium

R2-D2 Aquarium
(Kids, Under $250)

Earning a close second for world's coolest fish tank (naturally first prize goes to those restaurants in Japan where bikini-clad "mermaids" perform), this bizarro 'Star Wars' license is actually pretty solid. A 1.75-gallon tank is housed in the chassis and is complete with a filter system and an overhead light that switches between three colors. As a nice touch, R2's eyepiece is actually a periscope viewer into the tank, which is sort of like staring in someone's eye and seeing their belly, but who are we to gripe. To complete the odd juxtaposition, the requisite R2 beeps and whistles are also there, although thankfully for you and presumably your guppies, you can turn them off.

Gift Guide: Scandyna Dock Pack

Scandyna Dock Pack
(Style Maven, Under $250)

Looking for an iPod dock with a little more design sense than offered by most of those clunky, boxy models lining the shelves at your local chain store? Scandyna's Dock Pack combines an orb-like iPod dock with two of Scandyna's compact ultramodern (or retro-modern?) Micropod SE speakers. Each has a tweeter and bass/midrange speaker, and the speaker pod can be mounted on three spiked feet to fully evoke 'The Jetsons' or 'War of the Worlds.' The set may not be the cheapest out there, but it's tough to deny the sleek styling and clean sound -- the Dock Pack is available in black, white, and pink.
