iPhone Update Brings Google Street View and Podcast Downloads

It's here. Google Street View and over the air Podcast downloads from iTunes. Yup, public transit and walking directions too and the ability to share your location via email. Bug fixes, Safari enhancements, the ability to toggle auto-text correction, and plenty more... just like we heard in the pre-rumor run-up. Now get outta here, your iTunes update awaits.

Update: Added some screenshots of the most notable new features after the break. The Street View implementation seems solid though we miss the compass feature found on T-Mobile's G1. Also, the real-estate saved by moving the Google search field next to the URL field in Mobile Safari is a welcome and obvious change. As to auto-correction, well, that's personal taste. Tipster Vizcaya also noticed that Apple added a new option to rate an App when you delete it from your phone. You can also view multiple screenshots of applications available in the App Store.

Update 2: The other big update, Podcast downloads, works just as you'd hope and should further promote the spontaneous isolation we all crave. A few shots of that added after the break.

Apple TV Update Adds AirTunes Streaming, Support for Other Remotes

For home theater junkies who've been having a difficult time taking the Apple TV seriously, you should definitely have a look at what the latest software update brings to the dinner table. First off, we should warn you that any non-Apple TV software (like, you know, Boxee) will be banished should you choose to update, but if you're kosher on that front, we'll continue on.

Apple's changelog notes that AirTunes streaming is now enabled, meaning that tunes can be streamed from the STB to AirPort Express speakers or other ATV units nearby. Additionally, the box can now learn other remotes, meaning that you can probably get your universal remote to handle this bugger, too. The last big addition is that Playlists in iTunes can now be seen on Apple TV, and there's also support for volume control in Music.

Grab the download from within your box now if you dare, and feel free to chime in with any other noteworthy changes you happen upon.

iPhone 2.1 Update Brings Bug Fixes, Longer Battery Life

You made it. Three full battery charges and three full days of buggy 2.0.2 firmware later and the 2.1 software is update is now available for download. Remember, this "big update" comes with Steve's personal promise of "fewer call drops... significantly improved battery life for most customers... fixed a lot of bugs where if you have a lot of apps on the phone you're not going to get some of the crashes we've seen... backing up to iTunes is dramatically faster." We'll see.

P.S. Not that we're expecting any, but if you spot copy and paste or any other unannounced features be sure to let us know. [From: Apple]

Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) Update Coming Next Week

PSP Firmware 3.8 Coming Next Week
Yet another PSP firmware update is coming down the pipe. On December 18, Sony should be making Version 3.8 of the PSP firmware available to Japanese gamers, and soon to us on this side of the Pacific. Expect a number of great new features:
  • Streaming Internet Radio player
  • Video scene search
  • RSS now supports OPML (allows easy import and export of multiple feeds) and pictures
  • PSP-2000 owners with 1Seg tuners can use an electronic program guide to schedule Japanese mobile television recordings (Japan only, we're guessing)
  • PlayStation Spot now available at BB Mobile Point (Japan only)
Not a bad gift for the holidays from Sony.
