Gift Guide: Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone

Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone (Style-o-Phile, Cost No Object)

Thinking of springing for the veritable super car of cell phones? Lamborghini has saved you the trouble of searching high and low by releasing a phone of its own. Housed in black titanium and hand-brushed stainless steel, the Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini (price TBD) was inspired by the Murcielago LP640, from the trademark Taurus bull on the central button down to the signature on the battery cover. Dual LCD displays crafted from 60.5 carats of scratch-resistant sapphire complement the black, minimalist backlit keyboard, 2-megapixel camera and reasonable seven-hour talk time. It's made by luxury phone manufacturer Vertu, which means it's created with folks who value ease-of-use and bling over the latest techno specs, making it perfect for the high-rolling novice in your life who still needs to stay in touch. But get it while you can. With only 1,963 units manufactured – a tribute to the year Lamborghini was founded –they're about as rare as the real deal.

Gift Guide: Intelligent Design Titanium Mouse

Intelligent Design Titanium Mouse
(Style-o-Phile, under $2,500)

What do you get for the computer fiend who has everything? A diamond-encrusted motherboard, or a gilded monitor bezel? There's no need to be so flashy, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for generic crap, either. The Titanium Mouse by Intelligent Design (€800, or about $1,200) positively oozes class and minimalist cool. The body is made from high grade titanium and plastic resin, with a scroll wheel of neodymium. It'll run you quite a bit more than your standard pointing device -- about a thousand dollars more! -- but sometimes a plastic track ball just won't cut it. Unless you live in Holland, where the ID mouse was designed, you'll have to place your order directly through the Intelligent Design Web site.

Lamborghini to Go Green With Hybrids by 2015

Responding to the decidedly 21st-century dilemma of "greening" the king of supercars, car manufacturer Lamborghini believes it has come up with an answer. Its newest vehicle will use a small electric motor when moving at slow speeds, but will allow the full power of its gas-guzzling engine to take hold on the open road.

The move towards hybrid technology comes shortly after Lamborghini's recent announcement of its Estoque family sedan. The company plans to start actually building these hybrid freaks of vehicular nature by 2015.

So, when you're driving your $500,000 sports car around town in your $25,000 suit after your $400 dinner hoping to pick up on members of the fairer sex, you can now save a few bucks on gas while doing so. [From: D-vice]

Queen Elizabeth Gets Golden Wii

Queen Elizabeth Gets Golden Wii
So let's say you're a video game company with a new release called "Big Family Games" to promote. You've decided it'd be a great gimmick to send the game to one of the world's most famous big families -- namely, the Royal Family of England. And, more specifically, to its matriarch Queen Elizabeth.

Of course, there is one problem with your plan -- the Queen doesn't have a Nintendo Wii. So, now you'll have to get Her Majesty a royal console, but wandering down to Wal-Mart to pick up the same Wii that every other schmuck has just isn't going to cut it. What to do?

Elton John and Swarovski Team Up for Bling-y iPods

Elton John and Swarovski Team Up for Colorful, Jewel Encrusted iPods
We've seen plenty of gaudy gadgets covered in bling: iPhone cases, cell phones, ear buds, even espresso machines, have been encrusted with jewels and gold. There is one thing all of those glitzy gizmos lacked, however, and that is the endorsement of the king of glam, Mr. 'Tantrums and Tiaras' himself, Elton John.

Swarovski and Sir John have teamed up to offer jewel-encrusted iPod Nanos, in the full range of colors, with a sizable 12.5-percent of the profit going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. These fabulous iPods come loaded with 'Rocket Man: The Definitive Hits' and feature an engraving of the pop legend's signature on the back.

Of course, you pay a premium for the honor of owning such a thing. $565 gets you the 8-gigabyte (GB) model, while the 16-GB fetches a jaw-dropping $636 (converted from British Pounds). [From: Luxist]

$5,000 Dior Phone: So Upscale, It Doesn't Require Specs

Look, we're not Russian oil tycoons with a taste for trophy wives one-third our age. That's true. Nevertheless, no matter how hard we try, we just can't understand how spending $5,000 on these new Christian Dior phones will substantially increase our lot in life. Then again, we're afraid of robots. The new line of boutique phones manufactured in partnership with ModeLabs feature a touchscreen display, camera, and novel, mini-phone extender dubbed My Dior (pictured after the break).

About the size of a USB key, My Dior is meant to clip onto the outside of your wo/man bag thus avoiding any frantic rummaging when the favorable divorce settlement call finally arrives. Sorry, that's about as detailed as the specification list gets... not that specs matter when couture is at stake. [Source: The Wall Street Journal via Textually]

Bill Gates Gives Mother-of-Pearl-Clad Xbox 360 to South Korean President

Apparently not one to let a tacky trend pass him by, Bill Gates has commissioned 100 mother of pearl-clad Xbox 360s to be used as extra special gifts, the first of which was given to South Korean President Lee Myung-bak earlier this month, prompting a response that we can only imagine to be, "gee, thanks." To be fair, the design by Korean artisan Kim Young-jun is a bit classier than most of the crystal-encrusted gadgets we come across, but the same can't quite be said for the move of bringing a bit of thinly disguised self-promotion to a visit with a head of state. We can also only assume that Gates is dreading the day that the President calls him up and asks him what the red rings on his Xbox mean. [Source: Fareastgizmos]

Blinged-Out Gas Masks

Do you look to SWAT teams for fashion advice? Are you worried about how you're gonna look when we find ourselves on the slippery, apocalyptic downward slope that's sure to begin shortly after we hit peak oil?

Well, have we got the gas mask for you.

Artist Diddo Velema, along with Gucci and Louis Vuitton, showed a series of very expensive gas masks at the Luxury Show 2008 in Bucharest.

Says Velema:

"We are in a state of perpetual war -- with ourselves and with the eco-system that sustains us. Perpetual war breeds perpetual fear. In the present context, this fear stems from our extreme desire for authenticity and manifests itself in our collectively insatiable culture of consumption. Deep down, we are afraid we may never be satisfied. An expanding archive of branded myths and icons feeds this fear. Designer Gas Masks is an attempt to visualize this state of mind. Because it is only by first acknowledging and then challenging fear that we will all be able to breathe a little easier."

Ahem.

FYI, the matching diamond-encrusted Hazmat suit is gonna cost you extra.

Diamond-Encrusted Espresso Machine for the Rich and Tasteless

Diamond Encrusted Espresso Machine for the Rich and Tasteless
If you've been wondering what to get your rich, caffeine-addicted, bling-loving uncle for his birthday, we've got the perfect gift. Feast your eyes on the Nespresso Crystal Edition coffee machine. This decadent espresso making machine is encrusted with 3,100 Swarovski crystals, which have apparently become little more than accessories for gadgets.

For almost $4,000 you get what appears to be a decent, if more or less pedestrian espresso machine:

- cup warmer in aluminum
- removable grill for the preparation of Latte Macchiato
- automatically remove of used capsules
- illuminated collecting pan for used capsules
- high pressure pump with 19 bar
- electronic temperature control (Thermoblock)
- removable water tank
- automatic functions. Choose with one push at a button between Espresso and Lungo.

The only thing that sets this apart from the pack is the unbelievably gaudy crystal facade.
