Like many folks, we've spent our fair share of cash in the iPhone's App Store. From the useful to the useless, it's hard to resist loading up your cell phone with applications. Well, at least until you receive that bank statement at the end of the month.
So, just how much can somebody spend with one touch of the screen, you might ask? Costing $999, 'BarMax CA' is the world's most expensive ...

Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
Under leader Hugo Chavez, Venezuela hasn't exactly developed a stellar reputation for promoting and protecting human rights. Despite that lack of concern for Venezuelans' civil liberties, Chavez is seeking to protect his nation's children from an apparent capitalist tool of the devil: the video game. Chavez (who has banned the sale ...

Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
The Nexus One Google phone inspired a significant amount of speculation with both the media and with consumers, but that hubbub hasn't exactly translated into sales success. Despite the buildup, the phone is apparently languishing, as a paltry 20,000 units were sold during its first week. The iPhone 3GS sold 1.6 million models. ...

Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines...
Apparently having alienated yet another news organization, Google has stopped hosting articles from the Associated Press, probably over contractual disagreements. The AP is the "largest and oldest news organization in the world," and as a cooperative has won more Pulitzers than any other outlet, so the snub could immediately devastate ...

Have you ever wondered what you'd look like if someone created a mosaic of your face entirely out of LEGO blocks?
No? Neither have we. Which does leave us a little confused as to why LEGO decided to make its first foray into the iPhone App Store a photography program. Now don't get us wrong, 'LEGO Photo' is pretty cool -- you snap photos, or edit ones already on your phone, and with the push ...

Well the iPhone app store just got a whole lot smaller, thanks to Phil Schiller (senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing) who gave app developer Molinker and all 1,011 of its products the boot.
A reader at iPhoneography, known as SCW, was browsing photography apps for his iPhone when he noticed something a bit strange -- it seemed that every app from Molinker had exactly 50 five star reviews, ...

The New York Times Gadgetwise blog has found an interesting use for Shazam's iPhone app -- detecting lip-synchers. It turns out that true live performances will turn up as unrecognizable when you attempt to identify them with 'Shazam.'
The app takes the snippets of a song that you record, digitizes them, and creates a type of numerical signature based on the rhythm and melody. In a true live ...

How is beauty truly measured? That's been a much-debated question for quite some time. But the creators of a new iPhone application have the answer: symmetry. According to the Huffington Post, 'Fit or Fugly' uses Fibonacci's Golden Ratio to determine your face's degree of symmetry, which apparently correlates to how good looking you are. For just $0.99, you can download the app, upload a photo of ...

Other than jailbreaking it or using e-mail, the iPhone offers no built-in way to accept non-media files, even ones that it's able to display (like PDFs and Office files, among others). There are a few iPhone apps, however, that help. AirSharing is a nifty app that lets you wirelessly mount your iPhone on your computer (Mac, PC, or Linux) like a network drive. From there, you simply drag and ...

Fans of the Facebook game 'Bejeweled Blitz' will be able to hone their gem-matching skills on the move when the free 'Bejeweled 2' iPhone add-on hits the App Store next week.
As with previous 'Bejeweled' games, the goal is to swap gems vertically and horizontally to match three or more. (A satisfying cacophony of explosions concludes the round if you've done your job.) But this streamlined ...

We love holiday shopping as much as the next person, but we could do without the mammoth parking lots (and our embarrassing inability to navigate them). Honestly, is there anything more demoralizing, after a successful raid on Walmart, than not being able to find your own car when you get outside? We think not.
Thankfully, there is hope for the parking-lot challenged, and it comes in the form of ...

Most people suffer from a little bit of unease prior to takeoff, but a fear of flying can be a debilitating and crippling affliction. Severe cases can force people to seek alternate modes of transportation, or to even ingest illicit drugs.
Virgin Atlantic has been attempting to quell those flight concerns through its 'Flying Without Fear' program that, according to the company, enjoys a ...

Thinking about a nip here, or a tuck there? If you're not certain that a face lift or lipo is right for you, you might want to test the waters with an iPhone application. According to Reuters, two plastic surgery apps, both aiming to inform surgical candidates about different procedures, have been released in the past month. The first, the Shafer Plastic Surgery App, was launched in October. It ...

For the promotion of his new British-only TV show 'Meet the Hasselhoffs' (Maybe VH1 is all reality-showed out.), ex-'Baywatch' and -'Knight Rider' hunk (or, maybe 'Baywatch' and 'Knight Rider' ex-hunk) David Hasselhoff has put out his own iPhone app. "Ask the Hoff" is a bit like a Magic Eight-ball, but instead of mystically revealed, one-word answers in blue goo, Hoff's mug stares back at you to ...

Next time you're sitting on the couch and thinking about what you can do to be a better citizen, just take a little stroll through the iPhone App Store and dive right into the lurid world of real-time crime fighting.
For both the vigilante and the voyeuristic, Scanner 911, a recent addition to the iPhone app megalopolis, provides dutiful citizens with live feeds of police radio from around the ...
