Volvo's New Safety Features Wake Up Sleepy Drivers

Since now cars can park themselves, it only makes sense that they should now be able to drive themselves, too.

Or at least stop themselves, if Volvo's latest in-car innovations are any indication.

By the end of this year, Volvo plans to include a host of new features for the S80, XC70, and V70 models, including Collision Warning with Auto Brake, which automatically activates the brakes if the driver doesn't manually react to the stop warnings (activated by anti-collision sensors, no doubt). Driver Alert Control monitors the driving using a combination of radars and cameras; if driving is erratic or unsafe, the vehicle will suggest that the driver take a pit stop by flashing a coffee cup icon (see picture).

Next up for sleepy, bad drivers: Robotic hands that splash cold water and slap them in the face.
