Eliminated 'American Idol' Game Programmer Lashes Out at 'Morons'

Hell hath no fury like a geeky programmer scorned. After 18 months of work and development, Raw Thrills has reportedly pulled the plug on its 'American Idol' arcade kiosk, which has led to some poignant and acerbic criticism from one of the game's creators.

According to Game Set Watch, programmer Cameron Silver said that the DVD-creating, green-screen karaoke kiosks "were killed on account of stupidity." While 'American Idol' devotees may mourn the loss of a game they never got a chance to experience, it has at least provided footage of some of the most uncomfortably terrible karaoke ever witnessed. Seriously. Just try to make it through an entire video (after the break). And, does anyone know why images of Vietnam, IV bags, and aircraft carriers would be flashing up during Pat Benatar's 'Heartbreaker?'

When Not Holding a Mic, 'Idol' Brooke White Holds a Wii-Mote

'American Idol' finalist (Season 7) Brooke White may take her inspiration from the past -- sweeping national audiences (and Simon and Randy) off their feet with her knock-out renditions of Beatles and Carly Simon tunes on TV last season -- but she's firmly in the present when it comes to technology. White tweets, texts, and plays Wii, among many other gadget-oriented activities. Just a week after the release of her debut album -- 'High Hopes and Heartbreak' -- the Phoenix-native and on-the-rise-artist shares some of her funniest experiences with technology in our latest Switched Questionnaire. Take a look!

Did AT&T Rig 'Idol' Voting?

Complaining about voting irregularities in real elections is so last year. The new craze is tracking misconduct in voting for 'American Idol.' Message boards are abuzz with accusations that AT&T may have unfairly influenced voting results by providing phones, free text messaging, and lessons in casting multiple votes at once for parties in support of Kris Allen (pictured), the Arkansas singer who won the singing competition.

According to the New York Times, both AT&T and attendees of the parties confirmed that the company hosted two such voting parties in Allen's home state of Arkansas. The provider, however, did not provide similar support for Adam Lambert, the runner-up to Mr. Allen in the show's finale.

AT&T reps instructed party-goers in how to send so-called "power texts" -- blocks of 10 or more messages sent to the same number.

'American Idol' Comes to the iPhone

In case the hefty airtime devoted to 'American Idol' each week isn't enough for you, a new iPhone app might do the trick, according to Reuters. The folks at FreemantleMedia, the production company behind 'American Idol,' are offering extra content to the show's fans, and have chosen the iPhone as their delivery system.

The mobile application, which costs $1.99 and is currently available at the App Store, will be updated weekly for the rest of the show's season and will provide access to confessional videos from the the current finalists, along with pictures, news and bios.

For our part, we'd rather watch fish swim. [From: Reuters]

Runner-up Blake Lewis is doing just fine, thank you – after being ranked 21st-hottest on AOL's 21 sexiest single men list last July (aw, that's kinda sad actually), he cut an album with Arista records, and Lupe Fiasco was on it!

May 13th marked the release of his latest endeavor, a remix EP for the hit single "How Many Words." Even though he's rolling with big name producers and DJs like BT, DJ Dan, and Britney collaborator Dave Aude, he still found time to tell Switched about his sex, um, we mean, tech life. Read on to find out more, but Blake, you're a winner in our book!

With 78 Million Text Messages, 'American Idol' Breaks Records

American Idol Breaks Text Messaging RecordsDespite what many of us predicted, 'American Idol' has not only just survived, but has gotten more popular as it continues its march through our pop-culture consciousness. Proof of that fact may lie in recent news from AT&T that this season of 'American Idol' broke text-messaging records by generating 78 million text messages through votes, trivia contests and other SMS content.

This record-setting seventh season also speaks to the increasing ubiquity of text messaging and the popularity of devices such as the T-Mobile Sidekick. It looks as though text messaging is well on its way to replacing 900 numbers and phone banks. [Source: I4U News via Textually.org]
