USB Webmail Notifier Lights Up When You've Got Mail

The reams and reams of spam found with every check of our inboxes here have quashed the surge of emotions we used to experience when that new-mail notifier started blinking. So, we went looking for something to help get our e-mail groove back, and we've found it: the USB Webmail notifier. It's a little box with the iconic envelope design on the front that lights up in green, blue, or red when you receive mail. The color indicates either the location of the received message, for those of you who rock Outlook for work and Gmail for personal, or the volume, for those who need some encouragement to clean out that inbox. It is somewhat less useful than other multi-purpose USB indicators we've seen, but its simplicity, and its $17 price tag, make it our choice to bring back that lovin' feeling.

New Add-Ons Turn Your Wii Controllers into Musical Maracas

'Samba de Amigo' is barreling towards the Wii, and we all understand that it'll be a lot less exciting without the Wii Maracas. Thanks to Amazon's quick trigger finger, we now know that Sega's Wiimote accessories will go for $14.99 per pair, and if all goes to plan, they'll be shipping out on September 23rd. Of course, we'd suggest you pocket that and just craft your own wildly colored (and slightly gourd-shaped) Wiimote covers, but we understand not everyone was blessed with those DIY genes. Belkin Debuts Breakaway Connector for Your Guitar Cable

From all the coffee shop musicians here at Switched and Engadget, we'd like to sincerely thank Belkin for producing this marvelous device. For the rest of us who run around on stage like madmen, we have our doubts about how well this will work.

Nevertheless, the BreakFree Connectors were designed to add a magnetic breakaway point in your 1/4-inch cable, meaning that things will simply snap away if too much pressure is applied. Sure, this could save you a mint in shredded cable costs, but we'd venture to say that only the calmer performers in attendance will really find it useful. Snatch (gently, of course) the BreakFree this September for $19.99 and grab a few extra tips for $9.99 per pair. [Via Coolest-Gadgets]

Your Laptop Gets Hot? This Keeps Your Lap Cool.

Notebook Cooler by Swissgear

Sometimes you just need a simple accessory for your laptop. Nothing big. Nothing fancy. Nothing overpriced. That's why we like this notebook cooler from Swissgear, which the company introduced here at CES last night. This cooling mat for 14-to-17-inch notebook computers has two built-in fans and an exhaust system that prevents overheating and keeps your thighs from getting hot, too, if you happen to have your machine sitting on your lap.

It comes in black and pink and has a slick Swiss Army type design scheme. We like the 19-ounce light weight, the non-skid rubber tear drops, and the whole tray expands and contracts to your computer's depth and width. A USB cable draws power from the computer and slips into a storage compartment when not in use.

Price is $34.99 and should hit store shelves soon.

It's nice when design and function come together in a product like this. We're keeping our eyes and ears open for more great accessories as we prowl the show floor here in Las Vegas.
