Warner Bros. 'Archive' Brings Obscure Films to DVD On-demand

Being the digital aficionados that we are, we still prefer Criterion's Online Cinematheque over this approach, but those not quite ready to give up physical media will absolutely (and understandably) disagree. At any rate, the studio has just fired up its Warner Archive, a nice little web portal where film fanatics can surf over and locate niche titles to be placed on a DVD and shipped out. Most of the flicks are priced at $19.95, but that's still far cheaper than scouring eBay for hours in hopes of finding the original reel, having it converted and then watching it. Head on over to see if there's anything you like, but don't be shocked if you leave a few Benjamins poorer.

SeeqPod Music Search Engine Sued By Warner Music Group

Warner Bros. Records Sues Music Search Engine
We're wondering when media companies are gonna get tired of suing everyone is sight. Warner Music Group (a division of our parent company Time Warner), has zeroed in on SeeqPod, a search engine that links to music and videos found across the Internet. The reasoning behind the legal action is that some of the links link to music and videos that are in violation of copyright law.

Warner Music Group may have a tough road to hoe, however. Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, search engines (like SeeqPod) are allowed to have links to material that happens to be illegal as long as it isn't hand chosen and is the result of a search.

That said, Warner Music Group does have a team of highly-paid powerful lawyers and SeeqPod has a small collection of twentysomethings in a dorm room somewhere. SeeqPod might be a bit outmatched.

In My Mach 5 I Will Survive, Yeah Yeah

In My Mach 5 I Will Survive, Yeah Yeah

Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer...

In 2008, Warner Brothers will release the latest in its efforts to turn old TV shows into feature film fodder with an attempt to cash in on Japanese import cartoon 'Speed Racer'. The cast is, well, odd to say the least:
  • Matthew Fox as Racer X
  • Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer
  • Christina Ricci as Trixie
  • Susan Sarandon and John Goodman as Mom and Pops Racer, respectively
The film is being directed by the Wachowski brothers, whose success with 'The Matrix' is looking more and more like a stroke of luck as opposed to that of talented artists.

About the only thing the film has going for it is that beautiful hot rod above. The Mach 5 looks to be one of the best transfers from animation to live action, much better than the 'Mystery Machine.' It will probably be the only part of the film that remains true to the classic anime series. Check the video bellow for a view of the cockpit.
