In our quest to discover just how nerdy we are, we continue to head to New York's Times Square to ask the crowd to define the terms we use at Switched every day. Most flunked on Flickr but many could talk about Twitter, so we kept the faith that, just because we knew what a "tweet" was doesn't make us hopeless nerds.
Our next question tested our subjects' attention to detail. Most of the ...

Last week, we took our cameras to the streets and inadvertently stumped roughly half the people when we asked, "What is Flickr?" This time, we decided to try our luck by inquiring about Twitter, and, for the most part, everyone had an inkling as to the micro-blogging powerhouse's raison ...

We'll admit that, as tech journalists, we live in a bit of a self-imposed bubble when it comes to Internet goings-on. ("What do you mean, 'You've never heard of a meme?' ") So we decided to take our cameras to the streets of New York and descend upon the less compulsively-geeky masses to ask, "What is Flickr?"
Though the image-sharing behemoth Flickr -- now millions of users strong -- ...

Just as there's plenty of video-game-induced damage, there are also plenty of glorious wins. We know it's not the point, but then again, when it comes to video games, winning is kind of all the matters, right? Especially when professional gamers (as in, folks who work in the electronic entertainment industry) are involved. Last week's 'Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles was the ...

Yes, video games are both exhilarating and frustrating. And what with all that violence, it's no wonder that actual stuff breaks when we jump for joy after winning or throw our controllers at the wall after getting fragged to death, again. Injuries, and actual broken stuff often ensues, which is why we thought last week's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles would be the perfect ...

We took our cameras out to Los Angeles to feast on the bounty of video-gaming goodness that is the annual Electronic Arts Expo (E3) last week. Sure, E3 is filled with jam packed booths, scantily clad babes handing out free stuff, and enough hardware to power the space station. But more importantly, E3 is filled with gamers -- specifically gamers who will travel out to Los Angeles and ...

Nothing will ruin your day faster than a gadget disaster, and nothing will ruin your tech faster than a day at the beach. With that in mind, we took our cameras to Miami Beach and asked people on the street to tell us about their worst gadget disaster... what's yours? ...

It's happened to all of us: A misplaced click on a questionable Web site, an e-mail from an immature friend, or a risqué pop up ad. Suddenly, there's way too much skin showing on our office computer screen. We slam our laptops shut as fast as we can, but by then it's too late. The boss is standing over our shoulder.
We took our cameras to Miami Beach and asked people on the street to ...

We hit the streets of Miami Beach recently with our cameras to find the answer to some questions we've been debating furiously around here at Switched headquarters -- where is the rudest place to use a cell phone?
What about talking on your phone in a public restroom?
How about while waiting in line?
What do you think? ...

Face it, the Internet's addictive, as 46-percent of women recently admitted, but the specific online destinations and services that draw us in differ greatly. We hit the streets recently to ask folks what they spend the most time doing online. To hear the responses, you'll have to watch the video above? How about you? What do you spend the most time doing online? Let us know. ...

The most annoying thing about cell phones -- for both owners and the people around them -- is that often they go off in the most inappropriate places. We hit the streets and asked a few folks to share some of their most embarrassing accidental cell phone ringing stories. Some of the answers also got us wondering: Is it okay to take a phone call in the bathroom? To find out, click ...

Love 'em or hate 'em, cell phones are very much in our daily lives. As much as they help us stay in touch with folks, surf the Web, take pictures, or listen to music, cell phones also drive us crazy. We hit the streets asking folks to share their biggest cell phone pet peeves, which are compiled in the above video. We bet you'll agree with a lot of these folks, but if you've got anything ...

It's the 21st-century version of checking your significant (or semi-significant) other's diary, except this one involves actually snagging a password and sneaking into someone else's e-mail. E-mail should be private, even between spouses, or should it? We took to the streets of New York City and found some surprising answers on both sides of the debate, which you can see in the above ...
