Gift Guide: Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone

Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone (Style-o-Phile, Cost No Object)

Thinking of springing for the veritable super car of cell phones? Lamborghini has saved you the trouble of searching high and low by releasing a phone of its own. Housed in black titanium and hand-brushed stainless steel, the Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini (price TBD) was inspired by the Murcielago LP640, from the trademark Taurus bull on the central button down to the signature on the battery cover. Dual LCD displays crafted from 60.5 carats of scratch-resistant sapphire complement the black, minimalist backlit keyboard, 2-megapixel camera and reasonable seven-hour talk time. It's made by luxury phone manufacturer Vertu, which means it's created with folks who value ease-of-use and bling over the latest techno specs, making it perfect for the high-rolling novice in your life who still needs to stay in touch. But get it while you can. With only 1,963 units manufactured – a tribute to the year Lamborghini was founded –they're about as rare as the real deal.

$25,000 Cell Phone. Really?

We don't want to sound bitter. Sure, we are struggling to pay our bills and haven't eaten out in roughly four years, but, hey, that doesn't mean we don't want others to live an absurdly posh lifestyle. Honest!

That said, we are happy to introduce the Vertu Constellation cell phone. Yes, that's its name. No we aren't going to make fun of it. Designed by Knalihs Athem, the Constellation is made of 18k gold and is covered with more than 1,500 brilliant cut diamonds. $25,000 will get you the base model. If you want to customize your show piece, it's going to cost you extra.

We are pleased that there is still a market for this sort of merchandise. At least someone still has money. [From: Luxist]

Vertu's New Luxury Phone Is Made From Solid Gold

You know how you can tell that this is a "luxury" phone? It looks like it was shaped by an overly taut sphincter. The Vertu Boucheron 150 is made from "solid gold" and is meant to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Boucheron jewelry house in Paris. According to the designer, it took 1,000 hours to cut into shape, 700 hours to hand polish, and more than 500 hours to build. Funny, it only took us a split-second to wretch. Do the Japanese really prefer these Vertu designs from Nokia over the E71? No price or any real detail announced, just a picture of the enormous packing box after the break.

The World's Most Expensive Phones

The World's Most Expensive PhonesRemember that $6,000 gold-plated iPhone from a few weeks back? If you thought that was outrageous, what would you say about a model that will set you back about $300,000? Yes, high-end line Vertu sells customizable phones that can fetch prices well into the six digits -- a price tag that Forbes to create a roundup of some of the world's most ludicrously expensive handsets.

Prices range from the merely outrageous $5,000 Christian Dior multi-faceted phone all the way up to that aforementioned Vertu retailing for roughly the same price as two very nice Ferraris or Lamborghinis (or perhaps one of each). What does that level of extravagance get you? Scratch-proof crystal sapphire screens, for one thing, as well as wear-resistant ruby hinges and outsides swathed in the most exclusive of leathers -- surely all from nearly extinct critters.

According to Vertu, the goal is a phone that will last and look like new for at least 20 years, like a fine watch. However, the thought of someone using the same handset for 20 years seems even more outrageous than the price. [Source: Forbes, via Textually]

Nokia's New $25,000 Ferrari Phone

Nokia's New $25,000 Ferrari PhoneWhat could be more exclusive than a $255,000 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti? How about a $25,000 phone given a few Ferrari 612 styling cues? The Ascent Ferrari 60, designed by Nokia's luxury sub-label Vertu, is a follow-up to the company's earlier Ferrari 1947, which commemorated Ferrari's 60th anniversary. This new version celebrates Ferrari's new Gran Turismo-style 612 roadster by using the same leather used for the car's upholstery and the same screws found in its interior. There's also a somewhat tacky looking shifter gate bolted onto the back.

Beyond the posh exterior, the Ascent Ferrari 60 is a fairly standard mobile phone. In fact, it's more of a substandard phone for its lack of a digital camera or other features such as MP3 playback. Then again, if you can afford this thing, then chances are you can also afford to hire a photographer and a DJ to follow you around. If you do intend to buy the phone for use in the U.S., you're also going to have to lay out a little extra cash for importing. While the phone is available now at Nokia stores in London, Paris, Hong Kong, and Singapore, no U.S. release has been announced.

It certainly makes the launch price of the iPhone look like a bargain, eh?
