The Ugliest and Weirdest Cell Phones

With mobile devices like the iPhone and Palm Pre continually raising the cool-design bar, it's easy to forget that there's a lot of junk out there. PC World recently put together a list of the ugliest and lamest designs to ever access a cell tower. The list accumulates the weird, bulky, outrageous, awkward, and just plain unusable failures that make cell phone recycling programs crucial.

The Siemens Xelibri looks more like a piece of medical equipment than something to talk on, and Sony Ericsson's W350 -- despite its slim design -- has about as much durability as a piece of paper. Some phones not only fell short of looking good (like the Samsung P300), but were just plain hard to use: Take the Bang & Olfusen Serene, for example, which displays its keypad like a rotary phone but lacks any rotary function. The list doesn't end there, and we've added a few submissions of our own after the break.

Most Heinous Custom Netbook, Ever

If the Acer Aspire One netbook above makes you feel uncomfortable, even angry, then you're probably not a Japanese school-girl. Hell, even if you are we hope you have the good sense not to paste stuffed animals, taffeta, and frills to your Atom-based netbook. That's what UMPCs are for.

World's Ugliest Nintendo DS Lite Is Bejeweled Beyond Belief

Oh, there are so many ways we try to put a good spin on things that are flawed or unattractive.

"He has a good personality." (Too short.)

"She has a great sense of humor." (Cross-eyed.)

"This apartment is certainly cozy." (Tiny.)

"It gets great mileage." (A '72 Gremlin.)

And then there's this: "It's certainly shiny." Yes, that's the right description for what could be the ugliest Nintendo DS Lite, a unit that's been modified and accessorized with motley mix of jewels, hearts, and glitter. It looks like one of Liberace's outfits mated with a mobile device. (Don't try to imagine it.)

The maker, Kind Deco, has a whole host of products with which to dazzle you.

How unfortunate. [Source: Crave].

World's Tackiest Custom PCs

The PC Mod scene -- essentially Custom PCs that enthusiasts either build from scratch or modify with significant cosmetic alterations -- is as bustling and fanatical as the custom car scene. But with so much individuality and creativity applied to otherwise boring PC towers, some real doozies are bound to emerge.

Which is why every so often some Web site or magazine like Wired picks what it thinks are the most hideous or tacky examples of said custom PCs.

This latest gallery is filled with some scary looking computers, including a giant Molson can, an all-gold MacBook, and taxidermy-esque called CompuBeaver (pictured, above).

Where are the Swarovski-Crystal-covered PCs, we wonder? And is that all-white PC with the iPod-click-wheel-like control panel really that tacky? Regardless, plenty of the samples Wired highlights deserve to be in the pantheon of the world's ugliest gadgets.

Enjoy, if you're into that sort of thing....
