'Skanks' Blogger Sues Google for $15M for Divulging Identity

Last week, the notoriously anonymous 'Skanks in NYC' blogger was facing a potential defamation lawsuit by model Liksula Gentile Cohen, who had been negatively characterized in the blog. This week, that same blogger, who has since been identified as 27-year-old fashion student Rosemary Port, is filing a lawsuit of her own. According to ZDNet, she has decided to sue Google for revealing her identity to Cohen, and thus the world. She and attorney Salvatore Strazzullo are suing for $15 million.

"This has become a public spectacle and a circus that is not my doing," Port told the New York Daily News. Speaking of Cohen, Port continued, "By going to the press, she defamed herself... I feel my right to privacy has been violated."

Port's charges require some context. Last Monday, in the interest of pursuing a defamation suit, Cohen requested that a Manhattan Supreme Court judge subpoena Google for the identity of the 'Skanks in NYC' blogger. The judge did that very thing, and as was its legal obligation, Google obliged, identifying Port to the authorities and Cohen's lawyers. When she discovered the blogger to be none other than Port, whom she had known for some time, Cohen began to have doubts about the suit. Still, before Port had been publicly identified, Cohen told Diane Sawyer about the blogger, "[If] I've ever done anything to you to actually deserve this then I'm really very sorry." Some time over the past week, according to the Daily News, Cohen has apparently told her lawyer that she no longer wants to sue Port.

Judge Orders Google to Identify 'Skanks' Blogger

Remember back in January when model Liskula Cohen was the target of a blog called 'Skanks in NYC?' The Google Blogger-hosted site featured embarrassing, personal photos of Cohen, and the anonymous author said of her: "I would have to say that first place award for 'Skankiest in NYC' would have to go to Liskula Gentile Cohen." The site was quickly taken down when Cohen decided to try and take legal action, but Google refused to hand over the blogger's identity, unless ordered to do so by a court.

Well, Miss Cohen has succeeded. According to the Telegraph, the Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Joan Madden ordered Google on Monday to hand over the blogger's e-mail and IP addresses. Google gave the information to Cohen's lawyers, who plan to sue the blogger for defamation.

Model Takes on Cyberbully, and Google

Top-paid models may have luxurious, pampered lives, but they are also frequently targeted by bitter, jealous cretins.

Take for example Canadian model Liskula Cohen. She has been targeted by a cyber-bully for, well, being a beautiful, successful model, CBS News reports. We will assume for now that the person who created the Google-hosted blog Skanks in NYC has none of the aforementioned attributes. The site consists of insults directed at Cohen and unflattering, personal pictures of her. That is the only point of the blog from what we can tell, aside from proving that the person responsible has a dull life.

Cohen has asked Google to reveal the identity of the cyber-sissy to no avail. Google maintains that unless directed by a court order or subpoena, it will not release any user's personal information.

We realize that the luxurious lifestyles of others may be hard to take sometimes, but come on. Get a life. [From: CBS News]
