Samsung Announces Three New Digicams

Samsung Announces Three New Shooters

Samsung has released specs on a trio of high-spec point and click digital cams, the NV8, NV15, and NV20. The cams all share the same basic feature set, like a 3x optical zoom Schneider lens, image stabilization to help fight blurry shots, and face recognition to make sure that it's your significant other's mug that is in focus and not the tree behind them.

On the back is a 2.5'-inch LCD screen surrounded by a formation of unmarked "Smart Touch" buttons that perform different functions depending on the current screen, similar to the way displays in modern aircraft cockpits work. Finally, they all feature the same sophisticated matte black look that's subtly retro and definitely different than your typical pocket shooter.

The difference between them, then, comes in the megapixels of course. The NV8 is the lightweight, delivering "only" 8 megapixels, as you'd expect from the name. The 15, confusingly, delivers 10 megapixels, not the 15 you might expect from the name, and the NV20 comes in at 12 megapixels. The 15 and 20 are due out this Fall in the US for $299 and $300 respectively, while the NV8's price and availability are undetermined at this point.

So far, there's nothing really groundbreaking in these updated models other than more megapixels and the addition of the "Smart Touch" buttons on all the models ("Smart Touch" was only featured on the 10-megapixel camera last year.)

In addition, Samsung introduced the i85 PMP camera that's a full fledged portable media player (for music, movies and pictures) as well as an 8-megapixel camera with 5x zoom. Take that, iPhone!
