MTV Searching for Internet Addicts for 'True Life' Reality Series

Forget those boot camps for Internet addicts in China. In America, we work out our problems on television. That's why MTV is searching for Internet addicts to star in a new installment of its 'True Life' series. According to urlesque, the episode will be titled 'I Can't Disconnect.' If you've never watched the documentary series, each episode focuses on a different topic, from the absurd ("I'm a Southern Belle") to the sad ("I'm Addicted to Crystal Meth"). Camera crews follow people as they deal with the issues and problems surrounding the topic.

For this episode, MTV wants people, aged 16 to 28, who are living in "fear of missing an email, tweet or text," or who have "problems with family, friends, co-workers, boyfriend/girlfriend" due to the time they spend on the Web. While this might sound like it falls into the absurd category, scientists are beginning to take Internet addiction much more seriously. It's not just that kid barricaded in the basement, playing 'World of Warcraft' for hours on end, who's addicted.

Indian Reality Show Contestants Recreate 'Super Mario'

Sure, the United States has reality-television talent competitions. It's all old hat material though -- some cute little girl with a seriously big voice or some guy who can bend his body at weird angles. Now, India on the other hand. That country knows how to really come up with some inventive stuff for television.

A group of contestants on the show 'India's Got Talent' have recreated an entire level from a 'Super Mario Bros.' game. Using blacklights and glow-in-the-dark images projected on a screen, a contestant dressed like Mario side-scrolls through the "level," smashing blocks and jumping on turtles along the way. At the end, Mario meets his match when Bowser appears, but never fear; loyal bro Luigi saves the day.

The closest American reality TV comes to this is when contestants dress in those horrible costumes while auditioning for 'American Idol.' So step it up, you wannabe stars. There's some stiff competition overseas. [From: New Launches]

Twitter Getting a Reality TV Show?

Twitter Getting a TV Show?

Twitter is going Hollywood. Well, kind of. Although, contrary to rumors, no official Twitter TV show will make its way to the airwaves anytime soon, Twitter has indeed signed a deal with Brillstein-Grey Entertainment, known for such shows as 'Politically Incorrect,' 'Just Shoot Me' and 'The Steve Harvey.' Per that agreement, the microblogging service will be featured in an as-yet-unnamed reality show.

The involved companies have described the show to Variety as "putting ordinary people on the trail of celebrities in a revolutionary competitive format." We're pretty sure that by "revolutionary" they mean, "It's exactly the same as this other reality show except we're gonna have people Twitter!"

This may be a sign that Twitter's days as the darling of tech elites and celebrities are coming to an end. If the social networking service is prominently featured on a successful reality show, you can expect teenage girls and middle-aged housewives to increasingly flock to the service, just as they did to Facebook. 'American Idol' Comes to the iPhone

In case the hefty airtime devoted to 'American Idol' each week isn't enough for you, a new iPhone app might do the trick, according to Reuters. The folks at FreemantleMedia, the production company behind 'American Idol,' are offering extra content to the show's fans, and have chosen the iPhone as their delivery system.

The mobile application, which costs $1.99 and is currently available at the App Store, will be updated weekly for the rest of the show's season and will provide access to confessional videos from the the current finalists, along with pictures, news and bios.

For our part, we'd rather watch fish swim. [From: Reuters]

Video Gaming Makes for Hit Japanese Reality TV Show

Don't ever let anybody tell you playing video games all day won't get you anywhere... at least not if you live in Japan. Game Center CX is popular Japanese reality TV show staring Shinya Arino, who, clad in a light blue workman's suit, plays through classic, and mind bogglingly difficult video games.

Arino has played everything from well know titles like 'Super Mario Bros.' and 'Galaga' to obscure Japanese-only releases like 'Totsugeki! Fuuun Takeshi Shiro.' Arino sits at a plain, if messy, work desk and attempts to beat the games in one sitting. Arino is promoted or demoted at the fictional 'Game Center CX' company based on his performance.

The show has even spawned a wide variety of licensed products, from coffee mugs to wonderfully ironic "action" figures, and even a deliciously meta video game about a guy who plays video games. The latter is for the Nintendo DS, and sadly as is usual with these quirky titles will probably never see a US release.
