Brothel Lowers Rates for 'Green' Customers

The economic slump has been tough on all kinds of businesses, even whorehouses. When money is tight, it looks like paying for sex is one of those extras people just can't afford. But one brothel in Berlin isn't taking this news lying down (Excuse the pun). According to The Associated Press, Maison d'Envie, or House of Desire, is giving a $7.50 (5€) discount to all customers who either ride a bike or take public transportation to the brothel. So, when you'd normally pay about $104 for 45 minutes with a lady of the night, you'd only pay around $97 if you were to opt for green transportation.

To make sure the clientele is going green, visitors must show a bike padlock key or a public transportation voucher to the receptionist. Although he's open to encouraging other modes of earth-friendly transit, owner Thomas Goetz points out to The Associated Press, "We haven't found a way for people to prove they have walked here."

Alleged Sexual Predator Impersonates Police Using Geek Squad Badge

Best Buy's tech-help Geek Squad are letting their badges go to their head, says the Daily Record. New Jersey police arrested 25-year-old Jay Mora last week for impersonating a police officer and for sexual assault. Apparently, Mora was meeting an unidentified woman at a hotel to "engage in a sex-for-money transaction." Once in the room together, Mora identified himself as a police officer by using Geek Squad ID as proof.

Police say that, believing his ruse, the woman agreed to participate in sexual acts in order to gain her freedom. Afterward, Mora allegedly refused to leave, so the woman managed to contact a relative who, in turn, alerted the real authorities. You know, the ones with badges that actually look authentic and don't have 'Geek Squad' emblazoned in orange and black.

While Geek Squad does have a history of turning in pedophiles and other pornography perps, the crew has also been plagued by its share of deviant sexual scandals. Maybe the company should reconsider its use of terms like "Special Agent" and "Deputy Field Marshal." It seems Mora (if he truly was a Geek Squad officer) and other "agents" are getting carried away with delusions of law enforcement grandeur. [From: The DailyRecord.com, via TheConsumerist.com]

Craigslist Eliminates 'Erotic Services' Section

Thanks to the highly publicized April 14th murder of Boston masseuse Julissa Brisman, Craigslist's "erotic services" section has been under intense scrutiny by media and government alike, despite a year-long effort to curb illegal prostitution posts. After a month in the national spotlight, Reuters is reporting that Craiglist has announced that it will be changing the name of the "erotic services" section to "adult services," and it will be manually reviewing every ad posted there.

This is a big win for Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who has been the loudest voice in calling for changes to the site since the April media frenzy surrounding the arrest of Phillip Markoff, the 23-year old 'Craigslist Killer' charged with Brisman's murder.

Massachusetts Cops Cuff 50 Folks in Craigslist Prostitution Sting

This weekend in Worcester, Massachusetts, local police arrested 50 people in a prostitution sting, Worcester's Telegram reports. Taking place in an area hotel from Thursday night to Saturday morning, the sting's success was largely contingent on Craigslist's 'Casual Encounters' section, where police had posted false solicitations and offers of prostitution.

This is only the latest in a recent rash of news stories related to the racy Craigslist section. The questionably regulated forum is commonly used to seek anonymous sex, although some take it even further towards prostitution. Friday, the New York Times published an exposé of the site and, last week, Boston police reported that an at-large homicide suspect had attracted his two victims to area hotels by using the Craigslist. While the Worcester police had hoped that their sting would nab the "person of interest" from the Boston incidents, they were unsuccessful.

According to the Times, 'Casual Encounters' has become the online hotbed for prostitutes and their johns ever since Craigslist -- in an attempt to purge prostitution listings from the site -- began requiring phone verification and credit card authorization of all posters to its separate 'Erotic Services' section. Apparently, as the site reported a 90-percent drop in 'Erotic Services' listings, the pimps and prostitutes scurried over to 'Casual Encounters' instead.

Craigslist Proud of 90% Drop in Erotic Services Listings

A collaborative effort between Craigslist, 40 state Attorneys General, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has, over the past year, resulted in a 90-percent drop in "Erotic Services" listings on the popular site. A Craigslist spokesperson called the change "spectacular," according to ArsTechnica.

For months now, Craigslist has implemented measures such as phone verification and credit card authorization, and the results speak for themselves. Not everyone is happy, though; the Cook County Sheriff's Office in Illinois filed suit against Craigslist last week for facilitating prostitution.

Creator Of Prostitute-Rating Web Site Arrested

girls

Here's a little story for you. Robert Eric McFadden, former director of the Faith Based and Community Initiatives in Ohio was arrested on Wednesday.

The Columbus, Ohio man was behind a Web site that actually rated local prostitutes and online escorts. He was also involved with a $10 ticket raffle which offered one evening with a "lady of the night" (we like this term better. Neither of these things would necessarily get him arrested, though, as prostitute-ratings sites are nothing new.

What tripped up this Webpreneur in the end was the fact that one of the girls on his site turned out to be 17, resulting in McFadden charged with compelling prostitution involving a minor. Jackass. [From: FoxNews]

Woman Finds 'Second Life' as Avatar Prostitute

One day, someone will teach a college class on the sociological implications of 'Second Life.' In a place that so perfectly, yet whimsically, mirrors the real world, there are bound to be things that peak the interest of anyone with even a passing curiosity in human nature.

One tale that has caught the attention of many is that of Palela Alderson, a 26 year-old Italian woman, who has taken to the virtual world in order to live out her fantasy of being a prostitute. Alderson told Green Pixels in an interview that she has had a life long fascination with prostitution, and even attempted to become one in the real world. After buying a cell phone specifically for clients to reach her on and putting up advertisements, Alderson discovered should couldn't carry through with it, because she was afraid of what her family would think.

Sex With Robots: Is It Cheating?

The great philosophical debate of the next decade will certainly be, "Is having sex with a robot hooker cheating?"

Our friends over at Asylum debate the issue in the video above -- be warned it's NSFW (not safe for work) or appropriate for children. We've gotten used to robots that cook, clean, and pour us alcoholic beverages, and we all know that the next step is clearly robot fornication. The question on everyone's mind is, will visiting a robot sex worker be compared to going to a regular prostitute? Or is it just assisted masturbation?

Sure, visiting a live prostitute constitutes cheating, but if your girlfriend uses a vibrator, is that being unfaithful?

Go ahead, laugh now, but we guarantee this will become a serious debate for some in the ensuing years. [From: Asylum]

Connecticut Pressures Craigslist Over Prostitution Ads

We're all pretty aware that Craigslist is great for finding free or cheap crap in your neighborhood. We're also pretty well aware that Craigslist is the place for ladies of the night to advertise their services.

The Attorney General (AG) of Connecticut however has decided that Craigslist isn't doing enough to keep the advertisers of sexual services for pay off the free classified web site and is threatening legal action. Prostitutes often advertise under the 'Erotic Services' heading and offer "companionship" for "roses."

Craigslist has tools in place to help filter out content, but it relies strongly on users flagging inappropriate and illegal material. The Connecticut AG said in a press release that the site "has a moral if not possible legal responsibility to assure that it avoids serving as a conduit for prostitution and other illegal activity." He has given the company 10 days to respond to the letter before considering possible legal action.

It's unclear how Craigslist will be able to filter out more of the illegal postings. With only 20 employees reviewing each listing individually, the task of finding each and every questionable site is impossible, and automated systems can only accomplish so much. The Connecticut AG may just have to come to terms with the Web site's limited resources.

Street Walker Goes Legit With Web Cam Site

Florida Street Walker Goes Legit With Web Cam Site
Renee Holly spent the beginning of her life walking the streets, selling her body, and becoming addicted to drugs. But as she approaches 50, her tale has taken a surprising, technologically fueled and somewhat happy turn.

After going sober about a year ago, Holly stumbled across Craigslist and listed an advertisement under its Erotic Services section. The response her ad received was immense. Renee stopped walking the streets and now uses the Internet to find "johns" (customers), which makes her feel safer. Now, she is trying to go legit. She blogs, has a Web site, and gives private webcam shows for $6 a minute.

Renee hasn't stopped selling herself just yet. But she has started amassing a small stock of cash in a business account from her webcam income. She only makes about $1.50 out of every $6 that customers pay for her webcam shows, but it's the start on the road to the safer life Renee so craves.

Police Crack Down on Craigslist Sex Industry

You can find lots and lots of things for sale on Craigslist.org -- everything from electronics to used mattresses. You can also find people offering sex for money, a form of digitally arranged prostitution that police are just now beginning to crack down on. Officers around the country are not only pursuing the people that are offering sex services, they're also taking a page from Dateline's 'To Catch a Predator' series and setting up fake Craigslist ads to catch the guys who solicit sex workers.

And just as Craigslist makes it easy to find nearly anything you could ever want, it's also made it easier for police to catch these "Johns." Police statistics are showing that they're now arresting more prostitutes and would-be Johns via Craigslist than they are through traditional stings. For example, Cook County, Illinois, sheriffs department raids this past July nabbed 43 streetwalkers and 60 Craigslist posters. A single ad in Jacksonville, Florida, netted 33 Johns while another in Seattle grabbed 71.

For his part, Craigslist president Jim Buckmaster says there's not much the company's staff of 20 can do to police these ads, while Craigslist founder Craig Newmark did not comment. So, for now it seems the sex industry will continue to flourish in the land of Craig, arrests and all.
