It's no secret that Nokia has been in trouble for some time -- especially in the U.S. market, where Symbian (its smartphone OS of choice) just didn't enjoy the same success that it did in Europe. The problem has only gotten worse with the advent of Android and iOS, truly modern smartphone operating systems that make Symbian look like a quaint mess from a bygone era. MeeGo, a project that saw ...

Ever since Google started cramping Microsoft's style by offering its top-notch suite of communications and productivity apps to schools and businesses, the boys and girls at Redmond have been working overtime to modernize their approach to the Office suite. The company is increasingly shifting its focus to sharing, collaborating and the cloud. The next step in Microsoft's move from software to ...

Belgium-based design outfit Bram Boo designed the Salsa table for Vanerum, an educational design consultancy, as a collaborative work space, so that four people could sit in a circular pattern while sharing information and ideas. The original version of Salsa has been bested by a sexy, iPad-embedded iteration, which will be on view during the upcoming Interieur Biennale in Belgium. We want! ...

Hey, bro! While you're synergizing your backward overflow metrics into that PowerPoint presentation about headcount reduction, have you thought about changing your ringtone? It's sooo un-businesslike. If you're really a team player, we should get the ball rolling and pull the trigger on these sweet ringtones like "Trendy" and "Calm." Check out the video after the break, take an idea shower, and ...

Earlier this week, Kawada Industries and Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) revealed the HRP-4 robot, a 5-foot-tall worker bot designed to help out around the workplace. In the video after the break, the blue-and-white bot squats, twists at its waist, strikes a pose on one leg, gives a thumbs-up and just looks generally cool. At 86 pounds, the HRP-4, ...

From CubicleBot, the USB-powered desktop aquarium looks torturous for our piscean friends. Come mid-October, when it's officially released, grab the combo of a 1.5-quart tank, pen holder, overhead and interior lights, and an LCD screen that displays time and weather info. For the fish that end up housed in this pen holder-turned-fish bowl, we only hope that the axiom about their short memory span ...

If there's one thing that should've been created a long, long time ago, it's Quirky's new Pivot Power power-strip. One power-strip probably won't drastically change your existence, but this might at least eradicate one of life's great annoyances.
Sure, your power-strip might claim to support six devices at once, but when was the last time you actually succeeded in filling out the entire thing? ...

Before Microsoft Office 2010 even had a chance to hit shelves Tuesday, online retailers were already slashing prices on the suite. Amazon and Newegg lead the way by cutting the 'Home and Student' edition, which retails for $149.99, to $129.99. Amazon, in turn, marked down the 'Home and Business' and the 'Professional' versions by $40, offering them for $239.99 and $459.99, respectively.

The Web is teeming with the unrealized ideas of both students and established designers who set out to produce astonishing renderings and prototypes for unusual products. Unfortunately, due to the lack of time, money or technology, many of those products never progress from the planning stages to the mass market. But that doesn't mean we can't salivate over them, nevertheless.
We've never ...

At a live event in New York City yesterday, Microsoft launched its Office 2010 software package. The ubiquitous productivity suite, available now for volume license holders, can be downloaded starting May 11th, and will hit store shelves in June. The updated package focuses on making Office more mobile and Web-friendly, which is likely Microsoft's response to the growing popularity of ...

Believe it or not, that lowly office copier may just be the weak link in your office's security. Modern copy machines aren't just dumb blocks of electronics that photograph documents and regurgitate them on a piece of paper. They're networked computers, with hard drives, that store anything and everything you scan or copy.
The Toronto Star talked to Victor Beitner, founder of Cyber Security ...

Once a bastion of laziness, the office cubicle may no longer be safe from workers' oldest enemy: work. According to Asiajin, a team of researchers from KDDI Corporation, one of Japan's largest cell phone companies, recently developed a technology that would let your boss remotely monitor your every move.
The cornerstone of the monitoring system is deceptively simple: a cell phone equipped ...

If your office is searching for a new way to go "green," we might have found just the (bizarre) solution. Don't let the name throw you. The White Goat recycles all that excess office paper into rolls of beautiful, white TP.
According to DVICE, just dump in the shredded equivalent of 40 sheets of paper, add some water, and, 30 minutes later, you'll have a roll of toilet paper. (Check out a ...
