Japanese Police Create a Nintendo 'Mii' Wanted Poster

Just to be clear, police in Japan are not searching for a video game character. They created a Mii -- the custom avatars players can create with their Nintendo Wiis -- to go along with a wanted poster for a very real hit and run.

Cops in the Kanagawa prefecture, an area near Tokyo, have put the custom Wii caricature on wanted posters that also feature a picture of the type of car used in the crime. We'll certainly agree that the poster catches the eye, and will speak to a generation that might otherwise ignore it. It also reinforces the silly stereotype perpetrated by Nintendo's commercials that everyone in Japan is a Wii expert. [They're not]

But seriously, all this criminal has to do is change his shirt, take off those glasses, cut his hair, and avoid making that weird expression and he'll get away clean. [From: Telegraph.co.uk]

Microsoft Gives Xbox 360's Dashboard a Makeover

Microsoft just announced at E3 that they'll be giving the Xbox 360 a total software overhaul this fall. "When people turn on their Xbox 360s this fall, they'll get an entirely new interface and Dashboard, an entirely new Xbox through the magic of software," said John Schappert, head of Live services. New features will include those fancy new Mii-like 3D Avatars, a new emphasis on community with IM, video chat, and photo sharing, along with a brand new 3D slide interface for the main Dashboard screen.

Avatars will be integrated into your GamerCard, but you can also create a "Live party" and invite your friends, with as many as 8 of your three dimensional homies hanging out at once -- though you're not hanging out in an actual 3D environment. You can use your avatar in certain Live Arcade games like Uno, and even in third party titles such as the upcoming Scene It? title. It sounds like Microsoft is taking cues from the Wii, Sony's Home and Facebook all in one fell swoop, not bad at all.

Obama, Hillary, and Tom Selleck Make List of Top Wii Mii Faces

With its relatively simple, intuitive tools, the Nintendo Wii's create-an-avatar feature has been a hit, spawning countless spoofs and homages, including our personal favorite, The Mii Lebowski.

Now the fine slobs over at Slobs of Gaming have compiled a Mii "Best of" list, which includes Nintendo-fied renditions of such celebrities as Tom Selleck, one of the 'Star Wars' Storm Troopers, and Jesus H. Christ.

They're all pretty spot-on, except for Barack Obama, who looks more like Bryant Gumbel.

Jon Heder, Nintendo Fanatic

Even though you may or may not not look quite as fantastic as Jon Heder does in a silvery-blue unitard, chances are you and the Blades of Glory star have something in common, at least if you're a gamer who likes to play Nintendo DS and Wii. In a recent interview with GameDaily, Jon talks about his holiday gaming antics with his family, creating Mii avatars for everyone, racing his twin in Mario Kart, even being the recipient of a few hard knocks from his father via a Wii remote. It turns out he's found the time to complete The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and is even planning on taking golf lessons after finding success at Wii Golf. Hopefully he won't get too discouraged when he finds out real golf is a wee bit more difficult than the Wii variety.
