Martha Stewart Dedicates Episode to Twitter

Martha Stewart has gone from queen of domesticity to white collar criminal to tech junkie, all in pretty quick succession. For a woman who spent the better part of her career amassing power and wealth through glorified arts and crafts tutorials, it's been quite a transformation, indeed. But she's still got some lessons to learn.

An upcoming episode of Martha's television show, which will air Friday, October 2nd, is almost entirely dedicated to the phenomenon of Twitter and live blogging. The micro-blogging service's co-founder, Biz Stone, was her guest, and M. Diddy encouraged her studio audience to break out their laptops and phones to tweet about the episode, using the hashtag #thetechshow. One problem: the show taped (and, of course, the tweeters tweeted) Tuesday, but home audiences won't get to see what the Twitterverse was going on about till several days later.
Switched tip: If you're going to live blog (or tweet) an event, make sure it's actually... you know... live.

Martha Stewart's Dogs' Blog Worse Than Their Bite

Twitter just got exponentially less cool. Using everyone's favorite micro-blogging site, Martha Stewart is now promoting a new blog "by" her French bulldogs.

Should pets be allowed to have their own blogs?

A fantastic substitute for ipecac, the blog tracks the exploits of piteously fancied-up Francesca and Sharkey, and details all of their not-so-enthralling misadventures, such as chasing squirrels and appearing on none other than the 'Martha Stewart Show.' Don't get us wrong; we love dogs. But, honestly, this blog makes us think of only one thing: Michael Palin and the Yorkies in 'A Fish Called Wanda.' [From: BuzzFeed]

Snoop Dogg Talks BlackBerry With Martha Stewart

On a recent Martha Stewart Show appearance, Snoop Dogg spoke to Martha about his telecommunication tendencies, as shown in this YouTube clip.

At the clip's outset, Martha -- truly awkwardly -- reads a few of Snoop's e-mails aloud to the studio audience, eliciting quite a few laughs. We at home, though, rest assured, are cringing more than laughing. After questioning the D-O-double-G-Y about "Snoopguistics" and lecturing him on the permanence of e-mail, Martha asks Dizzle about his texting habits. Snoop confirms that he avidly texts on his trusty BlackBerry. Later on in the clip, they go on to share parenting strategies and mashed potato recipes.

For some reason, though, with all of her bantering, Martha never offers to exchange stories about their respective experiences in the clink. [From: YouTube]

Martha Stewart Teaches Google Founders to Make Mojitos

The queen of domesticity, Martha Stewart, recently paid the folks at Google a visit during its National Sales Conference. After being interviewed by Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google, Stewart brought out Google marketing chief Tim Armstrong and the search giant's founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, to help her make a batch of Cherry Mojitos.

Martha had Sergey help her pit the cherries, 'cause he looked like he'd be the better pitter. What exactly the point of the stunt was, we're not sure, but we wish Martha would show us how to make some cocktails. We can barely open our own beers. [Source: Martha Stewart Blog, via Geek Sugar]

Martha Stewart Gets a MacBook Air

Martha Stewart Gets a MacBook Air
Martha Stewart - home maker, business woman, convicted criminal, and apparently part-time Apple PR rep. The queen of domesticity got her cupcake making mitts on a shiny new MacBook Air and blogged about her new gadget du jour. But rather than reading like a person simply in love with their new toy, Stewart's blog comes off more like a press release:

"I was amazed by how razor thin and how light it is – just .76 of an inch and only 3 pounds. It has a full-size illuminated keyboard, which is terrific for working in a dimly lit car or on an airplane. And I really love the trackpad, which works in much the same way as the Apple iPhone, giving you many more options by simply moving your fingers... It's a little difficult to photograph just how thin this MacBook Air is, but you can see for yourself by stopping at an Apple store or checking it out on line at www.apple.com."

Did Martha Stewart just encourage us to go the Apple store to check out the MacBook Air?

We're not sure how much Mr. Jobs is paying Stewart, but it obviously isn't enough.

Stewart also reveals that she still uses an HP laptop for her Windows-only tasks, which led some of her geekier readers to school her about running Windows apps using Parallels on her Mac. Stewart says she isn't quite ready to leave Windows behind completely, but it still looks like Apple has another high profile convert on its hands.

Bill Gates and Martha Stewart Say Tech Is Important (Duh!)

Gates and Stewart, King and Queen of the Obvious

Bill Gates himself was published today on the BBC site, with a brief essay called, 'The Skills You Need to Succeed.' What startling revelations does the founder of Microsoft have to share with us? What insights does one of the patriarchs of the modern computer industry have that can deepen our understanding of what the modern job market is looking for in an employee?

  • "In almost every job now, people use software and work with information to enable their organization to operate more effectively."
  • "A solid working knowledge of productivity software... has become a basic foundation for success in virtually any career."
  • "Communication skills and the ability to work well with different types of people are very important too."
  • "I also place a high value on having a passion for ongoing learning."

Oh. Dear. God. Bill Gates has turned into our high school guidance counselor. We really don't want to pick on Bill Gates too much here but, excuse us -- what was the point of this little article?

Now, to be fair, Mr. Gates' meditation on the obvious isn't the only example of a supposed business genius babbling like a freshly thawed caveman. Martha Stewart recently felt it necessary to explain, in her typical condescending tone, that the typical young person "accesses their information in many different ways... The world has changed." Are cell phones and the Internet still that fascinating, Martha? Apparently, yes, since she seems to favor those over her own magazines such as Blueprint, which she shut down this week.

Oh brother. Perhaps Bill and Martha should take Bill's own advice and get some of that "ongoing learning." This modern world can be a scary place.
