Mac Pros Emitting Toxic Gas?

Just when Apple has started to make some friends at Greenpeace, it looks like another one of its fine products might be a wee bit toxic. According to the French newspaper Liberation, that mysterious stench emanating from your Mac Pro contains benzene -- which can irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Instead of being a mere inconvenience, that smell could be a cloud of poison gas that threatens to dizzy up, nauseate and migraine-ify you and everyone you care for. Apple has yet to issue a statement on any of this, but until it's all straightened out, those of you with the stinky Macs might want to seriously consider wearing a hazmat suit when checking your email.

Limbaugh Gets His Mac Fix
About a month ago Rush Limbaugh went on the air, but instead of mocking Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's Disease, or suggesting we bomb a country full of brown people back into the stone age, he made a public plea to Steve Jobs to help him with his brand new Mac Pro.

Turns out that Mr. Limbaugh is a bit of a Mac fanatic. But an issue with the new Time Machine back up feature was preventing it from properly backing up the pundit's e-mail.

Well, after several phone calls and a whole lot of headaches the man whose idea of comedic gold is putting the words "bomb Iraq" to the tune of 'Yakety Yak Don't Talk Back,' has his fix.

For the rest of you out there suffering from this same issue (and we know there are plenty) here's how to do it: Delete the null mail folder, then rebuild the Mail.app's internal directory via a terminal command.

So now Limbaugh has his fix, and Steve Jobs can stop worrying about late night phone calls threatening to out him as a gay terrorist prostitute.

Apple's New, Super-Fast Mac Pro Costs Up to $20,000

Apple Unveils Newer, Faster Mac Pro


Need a heavyweight Mac to do some serious computing in a stylish form factor? The Mac Pro has always been the go-to box for just that purpose, and now it's even faster, offering two 3.2-gigaherz quad-core CPUs from Intel. And, with four slots for hard disks, you can configure up to a whopping four terabytes of storage, as well as up to 32 gigabytes of RAM.

When using the right applications, users of the new Mac Pro could find upwards of twice the performance of the last generation, thanks to the quad-core CPUs, which in some cases can do many times the work of a traditional CPU or even multi-core CPUs. Graphics and 3-D rendering applications in particular should see a serious improvement with this new beast.

The new Pro is available today starting at $2,799 if you want two CPUs, or $2,299 if you can get by with one. But you should know this: If you configure it to the max and with the fastest chips and the most memory, you'll be looking at a figure closer just shy of $20,000. Yes, that's the right number of zeros.

So, maybe you can get by with that iMac for awhile longer after all, but if you have the bank, check out the Apple Store to configure your own.
