Twitter Moves Into Sleek New Digs in San Francisco

What's the best part about moving into new digs? Well, decorating it and showing off the space to your friends, of course. That's the thrill Twitter employees are feeling right now. According to Tech Crunch, the company moved into its new, massive San Francisco office space, which had previously housed Bebo, on Monday. Employees are posting online photos more quickly than we can click through them.

Here's a peek of what we've seen so far: The design is super sleek and modern -- from the furniture to the art. According to the Huffington Post, it's the brainchild of Sara Morishige Williams, wife of CEO Evan Williams. There are plenty of birds and '@' symbols plastered around the office. There's a shot of a vanity mirror placed in a spacious bathroom stall (which is a little creepy). And just to prove its own hipness, the company installed a DJ booth for employees to spin records and unwind after long hours of coding. In keeping with Web 2.0 style, there's a kitchen/break room worthy of its own cooking show.

While the micro-blogging service has an estimated worth of $1 billion, it might be a good idea for it to work on a proper business model before splurging on a new crib. You know, the kind where your company makes a profit. We're not economists, but isn't this the kind of reckless behavior that got us into our current financial mess? $1.6M Bugatti No Match For a Low-Flying Pelican

It's official. The birds are attacking.

For the second time in a month, a single bird has defied the odds and taken down a piece of machinery many times its size. According to the Lufkin Daily News, Andy House was cruising down the roads of La Marque, Texas in his $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron last Wednesday, minding his own business and talking on the phone (which, we are sure, didn't contribute to his lack of concentration even a bit), when all of a sudden, a low-flying pelican distracted him. Startled, he swerved to avoid it, dropped his cell phone, and, somewhere along the line, hit a mud patch and skidded into a salt water lagoon. A couple of car-savvy admirers amazingly caught the entire thing on video (after the break), though the pelican [Ed note: Right. "Pelican."], like a true professional, isn't anywhere to be found in the footage.

Giggles aside, the accident is actually pretty tragic, considering that there are only 15 of these cars in the U.S. Don't worry, all may not be lost. The vehicle's owner, fortunately, runs a business called Performance Auto Sales, which specializes in exotic car repairs. We're not really master mechanics, but we have a feeling that the rehab will go along just swimmingly. [From: Lufkin Daily News, via: AutoBlog]

Gift Guide: Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder Camera

Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder Camera (Gadget Head, Cost No Object)

The Leica brand has represented the ne plus ultra of photographic excellence for nearly a century, and continues to burnish its impeccable rep with its new M9 ($7,000). As beautiful a piece of gadgetry as any we've come across, the M9 is somewhat of an oddity in the digital realm: it's a rangefinder camera (meaning you don't see through the lens to focus), is essentially all manually controlled (including focus) and is the smallest camera around to pack a full 35mm CCD image sensor. That giant sensor also explains why the M9 can capture positively massive (and gorgeous) 18.5-megapixel images -- which, at about 36-megabytes (MBs) a snap, also means you might want to look into a new hard drive before you get snap happy. Nicely, the M9 can also accommodate any existing M-series lenses dating back to 1950s, a further enticement for any film Leica enthusiasts who are still sitting on the digital bench. Any devout shutterbug would kill or die to have one (and considering its $7,000 price tag, it'll surely cross some minds), though casual shooters who aren't comfortable messing with ISO, aperture and shutterspeed settings should likely opt for a DSLR with more automatic controls.

Gift Guide: Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone

Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Phone (Style-o-Phile, Cost No Object)

Thinking of springing for the veritable super car of cell phones? Lamborghini has saved you the trouble of searching high and low by releasing a phone of its own. Housed in black titanium and hand-brushed stainless steel, the Tag Heuer Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini (price TBD) was inspired by the Murcielago LP640, from the trademark Taurus bull on the central button down to the signature on the battery cover. Dual LCD displays crafted from 60.5 carats of scratch-resistant sapphire complement the black, minimalist backlit keyboard, 2-megapixel camera and reasonable seven-hour talk time. It's made by luxury phone manufacturer Vertu, which means it's created with folks who value ease-of-use and bling over the latest techno specs, making it perfect for the high-rolling novice in your life who still needs to stay in touch. But get it while you can. With only 1,963 units manufactured – a tribute to the year Lamborghini was founded –they're about as rare as the real deal.

Gift Guide: Alienware Area 51 ALX Gaming PC

Alienware Area 51 ALX Gaming PC
(Gamer, Cost No Object)

If you're trying to keep up with the Joneses in PC gaming, Alienware's Area 51 Gaming PC ($3,999 and up) is tough to beat. Housed inside one of the company's trademark love-'em-or-hate-'em "futuristic" cases, this rig is decked out with some of the best components money can buy: Intel Core i7 975 Extreme processors, your choice of ATI CrossFireX or NVidia SLI graphics graphics cards (making it great for the 3-D gaming with Nvidia's 3-D Vision Kit), and plenty of memory to keep things running smoothly). Oh, and it uses a fancy liquid cooling system to keep all this stuff from melting down inside. it's a hefty price to pay, certainly -- fully tricked out, this thing will set you back nearly as much as a small car, but the benchmarks are right up there near the head of the pack. And hey, you can't shoot nasty, earth-hating aliens with a Hyundai Accent, can you?

Audio/Video

The Laughable $147 'Audio Grade' Power Outlet

The Laughable $147
We've heard plenty of spurious claims made about so-called "high-end" products -- most often in the world of audio and video. High-end HDMI cables hijack consumers for their cash, and phrases like "gold-plated" and "silver content soldered" get tossed around as if they actually meant something -- all in an age when most connections are digital (and therefore less susceptible to signal degradation). Normally, when companies try to rip off consumers by selling "high-end" gear (essentially, the same as lower-priced competitors but with fancy words attached), we get irate. But the Wattgate 381 Audio Grade Duplex Socket is so obvious in its uselessness that we can't help but have a bit of a laugh.

So what exactly is an "audio grade" socket? Well it's a wall outlet. But not just any wall outlet, mind you. This power socket "features glass-filled, nylon front and rear housings," as well as a gold-plated, solid brass "[mounting] strap, rivets, grounding strip" and "terminal clamps." It also uses "a three-layer plating process," "[oxygen] free copper plating, electrolysis nickel, and finally 24k gold plating." And lastly, the "receptacle contacts are cryogenically heat treat hardened."

Scubacraft Lets You Conquer the Sea, for a Mere $164k

Hybrid automobiles may be the future of mass terrestrial transport, but their vanilla styling and performance simply do not compare to the sheer awesomeness of one new aquatic counterpart. Put it this way, we just don't see James Bond tearing through a foreign metropolis in a Prius. Put Bond in a boat/submarine hybrid in a Venice canal, however, and he looks right at home.

The Scubacraft is precisely as cool as it sounds. It is a boat capable of operating above or below the waves at the whim of its operator, and it has, in our eyes at least, rendered all other forms of aquatic transport obsolete. (We really have a thing for James Bond). While above water, the Scubacraft is propelled by a healthy 160-horsepower engine. When submerged, the craft can reach a depth of nearly 100 feet. Electric thrusters move the Scubacraft along its way while underwater. To be clear, this is not an enclosed submarine, so SCUBA gear will have to be worn in order to dive below.

Gift Guide: Intelligent Design Titanium Mouse

Intelligent Design Titanium Mouse
(Style-o-Phile, under $2,500)

What do you get for the computer fiend who has everything? A diamond-encrusted motherboard, or a gilded monitor bezel? There's no need to be so flashy, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for generic crap, either. The Titanium Mouse by Intelligent Design (€800, or about $1,200) positively oozes class and minimalist cool. The body is made from high grade titanium and plastic resin, with a scroll wheel of neodymium. It'll run you quite a bit more than your standard pointing device -- about a thousand dollars more! -- but sometimes a plastic track ball just won't cut it. Unless you live in Holland, where the ID mouse was designed, you'll have to place your order directly through the Intelligent Design Web site.

$200K BlackBerry Features Diamond-Encrusted Cover

Apparently no longer satisfied with being just a smartphone, the BlackBerry went out and got itself some swagger.

Designer Alexander Amosu has introduced his new, tricked-out riff on the BlackBerry -- an 18-carat gold gem of a device, replete with 4,459 finely cut diamonds. Users can brand their new bejeweled bambino with their company name and logo, and will have a 24-hour "global concierge" service at their doubtlessly Tiffany-laden fingertips. Just think: all of this can be yours for the limited, one-time offer of $200,366!

Manufacturers Hoping Men Want Pimped Out Bedsides

Throw away those those frilly, lace pillowcases and those fluffy, white duvets, men. There's a change coming to the bedroom. At least, that's what manufacturers hope. The Wall Street Journal reports that companies are incorporating more man-friendly features into beds and mattresses (video after the break). But additions like built-in TVs, 'muscle recovery' mattresses, and iPod docks don't come cheap (and effectively keep you in bed, well, indefinitely).

For example, a Hollandia International adjustable bed, which comes with a 32-inch Sony TV, surround-sound speakers, and outlets for laptops, costs around $30,000. If that's too rich for your blood, Dormia Inc. offers a mattress that absorbs excess body heat for just under $2,000. (Hold on. We're pulling out our credit cards.)

Billionaire's Yacht Blasts Lasers at Spying Paparazzi

The world's largest, costliest, and most private yacht, owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, has two heli-pads, a missile defense system, two swimming pools (one doubling as a dance floor), and six-foot wide cinema screens in all 26 of the guest bedrooms. Oh, and to keep out prying eyes, Abramovich has also installed a paparazzi-sensing, picture-ruining laser system.

Infrared devices locate nearby electronic camera sensors, and then fire a direct beam at the intruding camera, ruining any picture an interloper might hope to snap. This isn't the first time light refraction has been used to deter hungry shutterbugs (Remember the hard-to-photograph clutch bag that premiered in July?), but it's certainly the most original use of the anti-paparazzi technology.

Now, if only all that money could buy success for the Russian national football team and the Chelsea football club, which has strong support from the sports-loving Abramovich... [From: TimesOnline.co.uk, via Dvice]

'Arkeg' Cabinet Perfects Arcades and Ale

It's a combination that surely could only come from the hand of God: beer and arcade games. No, this isn't a joke or a dream. Someone really has created this heavenly contraption.

According to Uncrate, the Arkeg Drink n Game is an arcade cabinet that holds a five-gallon keg and comes with 69 classic arcade games -- from 'Asteroids' to 'Mortal Kombat II.' (This Internet- and iPod-ready machine can handle thousands of additional games.) It's like Budweiser and Ms. Pac Man had a baby. As if it couldn't get any better, the cabinet also features a 24-inch screen, a 2.1 sound system, two joysticks, and a trackball. Sure, $4,000 for the Arkeg may be high, but this is one gaming system that no beer-swilling gamer will regret buying.

Resort Goes Hi-Tech with 'Tummypods,' Party Elevators, and Snow Cave

An English resort chain, once known for its low rates and quaint seaside cottages, has given an incredibly high-tech renovation to its reputation. The result is the impressive Butlins Ocean Hotel -- a seven-story, 200-room vacation destination in Bognor Regis, West Sussex that looks to be straight out of the Woody Allen movie 'Sleeper.'

According to the Daily Mail, the brand new facility features relaxation pods, spa treatment rooms with laser light shows, singing 'disco' showers, classical music-playing 'tummypods' for pregnant guests, dance-party elevators, and kids' rooms that boast comic book decorations and lights under the beds for warding off monsters. Perhaps most impressive among the hotel's features is the 7,211-square-foot snow cave, a room so cold that it actually creates artificial snow.

Lamborghini to Go Green With Hybrids by 2015

Responding to the decidedly 21st-century dilemma of "greening" the king of supercars, car manufacturer Lamborghini believes it has come up with an answer. Its newest vehicle will use a small electric motor when moving at slow speeds, but will allow the full power of its gas-guzzling engine to take hold on the open road.

The move towards hybrid technology comes shortly after Lamborghini's recent announcement of its Estoque family sedan. The company plans to start actually building these hybrid freaks of vehicular nature by 2015.

So, when you're driving your $500,000 sports car around town in your $25,000 suit after your $400 dinner hoping to pick up on members of the fairer sex, you can now save a few bucks on gas while doing so. [From: D-vice]

As we traverse the Web, we're constantly discovering incredible new gizmos and gadgets that we'd absolutely love to have. But, thanks to DVICE, today may have provided us with the most awe-inspiring technological adaption we've ever seen. Hybrid Space Furniture has engineered an entertainment center so awesome that it's sure to send men, and sports fanatics everywhere, into a full-on frenzy.

The 'Man Wall' includes four flat-screen HD televisions (all operated by one remote), a 1200w 5.1 home theatre system, a DVD player with a 5-disc changer, wireless surround sound speakers, an iPod dock, a live 7-foot sports ticker (with a year of free service), a full-size kegerator, a microwave, two cigar humidors, and a 32-bottle wine rack. Need a hankie to wipe up the drool, yet?

Since most of us are hitting the sports summer doldrums (unless you're a die-hard baseball or NASCAR fan), you'll have plenty of time to save up some scratch in order to get one of these babies for the World Series and for the college football season. The 'Man Wall' will run you a cool $15,000, but never having to leave the house or apartment should help offset that price. Now, please excuse us while we go take out a second, and a third, mortgage. Just don't tell our significant others. [From: DVICE]
