Gift Guide: Dyson Limited Edition DC25 Blueprint

Dyson Limited Edition DC25 Blueprint
(Homebody, Under $1000)

Vacuum cleaners are like eyeglasses and headphones -- when you buy one, it's worth paying for quality (particularly if you live with a dog and/or significant other that sheds regularly). And once you use a "serious" vacuum cleaner, it's tough to go back. Dyson's Limited Edition DC25 Blueprint ($529.99) is arguably the nicest looking Dyson yet; the combination of stormtrooper-white shiny plastic, future-industrial lines, and a purple trim is truly a sight to behold. Under the hood sits Dyson's Root Cyclone and Ball technologies, and it comes with a bonus FlatOut head, which is ideal for getting underneath low furniture and appliances. It's still expensive, but surprisingly in line with the other DC25 models. If you or someone you know is having a midlife crisis, this thing is a much better investment than a sports car.

Limited Edition, Prince-Themed iPod Touch -- Only $2,100

While certainly not the most expensive iPod we've ever seen, the limited edition Prince Opus iPod touch is definitely amongst the priciest. Sold only as part of an ultra rare kit that includes a luxurious book of Prince photographs from Kraken Opus, this touch (of unknown capacity) comes preloaded with 40 minutes of "exclusive" footage along with a live soundtrack from 'Indigo Nights.' Of course, it's also doused in purple and splashed with Prince's symbol 'round back, but even with only 950 kits available, we still say the $2,100 price tag is far too lofty. Hate to break it to ya, Opus, but those hedge funds are no longer partying like it's 1999.

Red 'Resident Evil 5' Xbox 360 Unveiled!

Looks like that red Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 bundle wasn't just some tripped out figment of your imagination. Just moments ago, the package popped up for Xbox Live subscribers, detailing a handsome red Xbox 360 Elite with a 120GB hard drive, 'Resident Evil 5,' 'Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix,' and a few other odds and ends (like a handful of cables). There's an indication that you can pre-order the kit, but at this point, we're not aware of any place to follow through. We'll keep our eyes peeled, of course.

Update: According to the German press release we just received, the limited edition bundle will hit Europe on March 13th for €299 -- likely $399 Stateside. Gallery updated with official press pictures.

Update 2: Boom! Pre-order at Best Buy for $399. [Thanks, Ivan]

Dorkiest Varsity Jacket Ever Lays on the Nintendo Charm

At first glance, we actually gagged upon seeing the jacket pictured above. Immediately after regaining our composure, we wondered how on earth such a magnificent piece of retro kitsch could have such a negative impact on our lives. Then, it hit us. It's the dude. Seriously. Strap this $200, limited-run jacket on anyone even remotely beautiful and we'd bet that you, too, would see things differently. Or maybe it is just obscenely tacky. But it'd be much less so on anyone other than this fellow. [From: OhGizmo]

Beatles Collector's Box Includes Limited Edition 120GB iPod Classic

Listen up, Ringo Beatles fans -- your holiday gift has just been located, and it's on aisle 17 in Bloomingdale's. The somewhat janky limited edition collector's box is a dream come true for fanatics of the Fab Four, packing 13 original Beatles' CDs, an engraved guitar pick, two masters and the "Love" CD -- none of which are available via the iTunes Music Store, mind you. Just 2,500 of the $795 sets are available, but -- humorously enough -- you'll be stuck ripping and transferring every last disc onto your individually numbered, etched-with-a-Beatles-logo 120GB iPod classic. Ah well, at least this scenario lets you choose your own bitrate, right?

'Tis the Season With Microsoft's Wireless Red Xbox 360 Controller

Here's an interesting one. That red / black Xbox 360 controller that was showcased back in July is now available to any ole consumer in the US, Canada, Latin America New Zealand and Asia, and it comes bundled with a Play & Charge Kit and red rechargeable battery for $64.99. For whatever reason, Microsoft's totally missing a golden opportunity to cash in on the holiday shopping season by reserving the green counterpart as some "promotional item." C'mon guys, is it really that hard to understand how irresistible a red and green gamepad tandem would be in late December?

'The Dark Knight' Xbox 360 Spotted in the Wild

As you've surely heard (and hopefully confirmed for yourself) by now, The Dark Knight is a runaway hit. So much so, in fact, that a number of manufacturers have figured it prudent to crank our hardware with the iconic Batman logo front and center. Next in line for admission on the bandwagon seems to be Microsoft, which apparently showed off a "limited edition" (read: likely one of a kind) Dark Knight Xbox 360 over in Taiwan. We know, you want the details -- eventual release dates, a price, the works. Unfortunately for us all, we're stuck with just that image above and hope for the future. Hey, at least you can let your imagination run wild.

New Mimobot USB Drives Based on Japanese 'Domo' Mascot

Looking for the perfect stocking stuffer for a kid, a nerd or a Japan-o-phile? Mimoco -- the creator of limited-edition USB pocket drives in the shape of 'Star Wars' characters, Happy Tree Friends, and Halo -- has just announced its latest series based on 'Domo,' which is the mascot of Japanese network NHK and huge in Japan. Mimoco's new 'mimobots' are out in time to commemorate the debut of a 'Domo' TV show on the Niktoons Network.

As with previous mimobots, each 'Domo' drive will come loaded with 23 animated shorts from the show, Domo-themed desktop wallpaper, avatars, and special sounds that play every time the device is ejected from the computer.

The USB 2.0 drives come in 1-gigabyte ($49.95) 2-gigabyte ($69.95) and 4-gigabyte ($109.95) sizes and are available now at the Mimoco site.

We imagine most nerds won't even be using these to save files or whatever, but will instead leave them in their boxes to sell on eBay years from now.
