The Switched Questionnaire: Jackie Collins

She may have started writing such saucy bestsellers as 'The Bitch,' 'The Stud' and 'Hollywood Wives' on a typewriter, but Jackie Collins wrote her latest tome, 'Drop Dead Beautiful' (out June 26), on a computer. Since she travels all the time promoting her books, and, no doubt, getting ideas for her next novel, Collins is rarely without her laptop or cell phone. Here she shares her gadget preferences with us in the latest Switched Questionnaire.

What gadgets do you always bring with you for down time?

My laptop. Cannot travel without it. It keeps me connected with the outside world when I am in places like Australia, and the time difference is so huge.

What cell phone do you have right now, and what do you love/hate about it?

I have a RAZR, however, I am thinking of getting the new Apple iPhone, which looks amazing, or the BlackBerry 8800. Cannot make up my mind – but I have a feeling both of them will rock!

Who is the last person you sent a text message to and what was it about?

I have a friend who is constantly texting messages all through dinner, so I sent him a joke text telling him that he had to go home at once as he was needed urgently. He was not pleased!

Where do you go pretty much every time you get online?

I like to check out other authors' sites. I go to my own site, www.jackiecollins.com, to review the comments people have left. I certainly love my readers because they are always full of ideas and interesting comments.

What annoys you most about your iPod, cell phone or laptop?

I am furious when I arrive in a country at a big hotel and they don't know how to connect my laptop, so that I can keep in touch with everybody. I was recently in Sydney, and I had a week of wonderful dialogue with all my friends via e-mail, and then I arrived in Melbourne and they couldn't figure it out. What a bummer!

Name one thing you wish your iPod, cell phone, laptop could do that any gadget doesn't do now?

I must say I think the cell phone does about everything!

What upcoming gadget can you not wait to get your hands on?

A high def movie camera that has disks that I can play immediately on my computer.

If you're stranded on a desert island, what gadget do you bring?

I would certainly bring my laptop so that I could keep in touch with everybody and keep up with what's going on in the world.

Tell us what's the most played song or artist on your iPod?

I am particularly fond of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On." It is a song that always puts me in a great mood.

Blackberry, Sidekick or Trio?

BlackBerry.
