Make Your iPhone Feel Like It Has Real Keys

It is a common story. People love everything about their IPhone except the stupid touchscreen keypad. Too many typos, so little time.

My Touch Keys
is a solution to this ubiquitous source of frustration -- a very simple solution. My Touch Keys is actually a thin layer of plastic with holes cut out where the iPhone keypad characters are. The skin is completely transparent -- the blue tint in the press photos is just for effect. There are no adhesives, as the plastic skin uses static cling to adhere tightly to the iPhone surface. The small holes in the plastic give the user increased tactile feedback, ensuring that texts and e-mails are delivered without as many typos.

My Touch Keys is $7.99.

World's First iPhone Speaker Dock Eliminates Audio Buzz

For that annoying, crackly interference noise many iPhone users hear when docking into standard iPod speaker dock system, Altec Lansing has figured out a solution: The new "Works with iPhone" T612 speaker system builds upon the audio prowess of the M602 powered audio system for iPods, while adding GSM (Global System for Mobile communications, or cellular network that AT&T runs on) shielding to its speakers. We'll have to see just how well this works when we get some hands on, but the system is said to eliminate buzzing and cracking speakers when calls or text messages come in to your snazzy iPhone.

But this iPhone speaker dock is even smarter: When a phone calls come in, the T612 pauses your music during your phone conversation and then automatically begins playing where you left off when you re-dock the iPhone.

The T612 will be out this February for the reasonable price of $199.95 from Apple retailers and AltecLansing.com.

Just Tell Me What to Get: iPhone Earbuds

A reader writes: I bought an iPhone and was bummed to see that I can't use my favorite pair of earbuds with it (thanks to a proprietary audio input). The earbuds that came with the iPhone are no good sound-wise and so far I haven't seen many options for IPhone-compatible earbuds. So, I'm looking for a pair of iPhone-compatible earbuds that not only sound good (and go up to 11, volume-wise), but also let me take phone calls. Just tell me what to get!

We were just as disappointed as you were when we got our iPhone, so we immediately went out and bought a bunch of different models. Though we'd heard a lot of great things about the $99 Shure Stereo Headset Universal that we picked up at our local AT&T Store, we actually preferred the equally-priced V-Moda Vibe Duo earbuds, which not only look stylish with their three-toned white rubber, black, and chrome finish, but also offer decent definition in the mid-range and excellent, non-distorting bass on the low-end.

Like many a headset, the V-Moda Vibe Duo comes with a fit kit for differently-sized aural canals, as well as a compact leather case so you don't break them! Our only gripe is you can't answer the phone by just tapping on the mic, as you can with Apple's standard earbuds, but pretty much none of the options out there for the iPhone have this function -- yet. Besides, we'll take the better sound over call-convenience any day! One other thing we like: The cord is made of some kind of synthetic cloth, which doesn't tangle as easily the plastic cords of most earbuds we've had.
