Apple App Goes Nude, Gets Pulled, May Go Nude Again

It's been an up-and-down day for porn-loving iPhone owners. Reports began breaking last night and this morning that the app 'Hottest Girls,' which formerly featured nubile lasses dressed in bikinis and lingerie, would be providing photographs of nude models. The nudity news shouldn't come as too much of a surprise since Apple implemented parental controls for its newly released iPhone 3.0 SDK, which many believed would lead to the availability of pornographic apps.

Strictly for research purposes, and to maintain journalistic integrity (is that still a word?), we browsed the app store to verify the new release. (It wasn't just to catch a glimpse of boobies, we promise.) We left disappointingly unfulfilled, though, when we received a message that the app was not available.

Now, some might be worried that Apple pulled the racy app due to negative publicity, but, according to AllenTheGeek.com, the app is merely temporarily sold out. Afraid the porn rush of prospective buyers would crash their servers, distributor ATG has temporarily halted the app's sale, but has assured the porn-loving public that the titillating images will return. Until then, you'll have to continue getting your iPhone porno fix with Safari. [From: TechCrunch and Engadget]

iPhone 3.0: Say 'Hello' to Copy and Paste

iPhone 3.0 upgrade day is finally here -- we've been waiting impatiently for it ever since it was announced back in March. It may sound absurd that a simple software update is generating so much buzz, but 3.0 packs so many features that users have been clamoring for. While AT&T customers will just have to wait for MMS (you can finally send media like pictures and movies via text message) and tethering until the carrier turns on the features, everyone will be able to immediately take advantage of copy-and-paste, landscape keyboard features, push notifications, and new Bluetooth profiles for stereo headphones and P2P data transfer.

The update went live at 1pm EST, so just plug in your iPhone or iPod touch (don't forget about that $9.95 upgrade fee for the touch) and get your updating on. And remember, everyone else is likely rushing to download the latest update at the same time, so just relax if it seems to take a while. Your patience will be rewarded.

Want a New Smartphone? Wait Two Months.

The Silicon Alley Insider is doling out a bit of advice that we heartily endorse: "Don't buy a smartphone until June."

It's not like there aren't any quality offerings on the market right now. In fact, if you really want a Windows Mobile phone (though we're not sure why you would), there's no need to wait. Go get one now. But be warned that, come June, there will be a whole host of new handsets on the market.

You can expect that the Apple iPhone will see a hardware refresh, along with a 3.0 software update, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Rumored additions to the device have included everything from a physical keyboard to an iMovie iPhone app for editing videos on the handset.

Leaked Screen Shots of New iPhone 3.0 Software Reveal More Features

New iPhone 3.0 Interface Shots Surface
When Apple gave the world a taste of the new version of the iPhone software last month, dubbed version 3.0, the Apple fan base was alight with glee over the numerous promised enhancements, including multimedia messages, turn-by-turn GPS directions, and even copy-and-paste support -- finally! As it turns out, that wasn't all that will be new and exciting in the OS; recently released screen shots now show some further, previously unannounced functionality.

Most exciting is the new video recording and editing app we touched on in the previous post that will let you shoot small (and probably grainy-looking) videos through your iPhone's camera. But, there are lots of other enhancements, too, including voice dialing, improved statistics about the phone's usage, and a suite of new settings to tweak the way the phone works. There are even references to a "ChinaBrick" setting that could disable Wi-Fi, thus making the phone legal to use in China. It's all unconfirmed for now, but we'll find out for sure later this summer when 3.0 drops for reals. [From: The Boy Genius Report]

Rumor Has It: New iPhone to Have FM Transmitter and Video-Editing

Look, we don't want to get everyone riled up here, but the buzz surrounding the new iPhone is getting louder by the day. We think you may like to know what all the little bees are telling us. According to 9to5Mac and Business Insider, the new iPhone may be equipped with, among other things, an FM radio transmitter and new video-editing software.

With an FM transmitter, iPhone users could manipulate their in-car audio without all the bothersome accessories (cords, attachments, bleh). The iPhone already receives FM transmissions, so users would still be able to receive real-time traffic updates and radio, as well. The video-editing rumor is based upon expectations of a newer, better iPhone video-enabled camera. An 'iMovie'-for-iPhone app is the most likely candidate to fill one of the few chinks in the iPhone's app-armor.

Have fun salivating, all you iPhone groupies. We will throw you whatever scraps we can until Mac's unveiling of the new iPhone, which we hope will happen on June 8 at Apple's 2009 Worldwide Developers Conference. [From: 9to5Mac and The Business Insider]

iPhone 3.0 Update Brings Much Needed New Features

iPhone 3.0 Update Brings Much Needed New Features

The wait is over! Well, the wait to know what we're waiting for is over.

The iPhone 3.0 update is coming, and honestly, it's not coming soon enough. We'll have to wait until this June, when the iPhone will get a major software update that will bring boatloads of new features to everyone's favorite multi-touch cell phone. Of course, many of these features, such as support for Multi-Media-Messaging (MMS), have been on other smart phones for years. Check out the bullet list after the break for what to expect, and hit up Engadget for more in-depth coverage.

Will the Next iPhone Software Update Include Copy and Paste?

Digg's Kevin Rose has a solid (but far from perfect) track record when it comes to Apple rumors, and he just drove the nerds of SXSWi crazy with his latest gaze into the crystal ball: he says the iPhone 3.0 will have copy and paste. Kev says that the interface is much like the magnifying glass -- you use two fingers to select the text you want, and then you can cut or copy. Sure, that's great, but we think the bigger news is that Rose says 3.0 won't have support for background apps -- which makes his claim that that 3.0 will bring the iPhone "up to speed with the Palm Pre" a little suspect. We'll find out what's what in just a few days, but in the meantime check the video of Rose after the break.
