Activision Offers 'Guitar Hero III' Refunds for Wii Owners

Activition Offers Guitar Hero III Refunds for Wii Owners

The 'Guitar Hero' franchise has swept the gaming world by storm, taking what could have been just a nerdy interpretation of axe wielding and turning it into the de-facto party game of 2006 and most of 2007. 'Rock Band' has, of late, been stealing a little of 'Hero's' fanfare, but if you're on the Wii 'Guitar Hero III' is your only option for rocking out. Now, though, publisher Activision is offering refunds for anyone who purchased the Wii version of the game and wishes to return it.

Why? Because the game was advertised as offering Dolby Surround Sound output, as well as at least stereo. However, not long after release, it was determined that the Wii version for some inexplicable reason offered only mono output. Mono's no good for a game that's meant to let you rock out.

Last month Activision finally launched a disc replacement program, but now, they're stepping that up another notch, letting you just get a full refund on the game in case you've been so offended by the company's single-channel antics that you couldn't bear to strum your plastic guitar again. If you're looking to get your money back, click here to head over to Activision's Wii Refund page and begin what will surely be a long and arduous rebate-like process.

'I Am 8-Bit' Guitar Straps for 'Rock Band' or 'Guitar Hero'

The folks at I Am 8-Bit (you may remember them from such art shows as this one) and a design company called Couch (great name, eh?) have put their collective pixels together to create some nice Space Invader-inspired guitar straps, particularly for those of you with 'Rock Band' and/or 'Guitar Hero' gee-tars.

The vinyl strap comes in either blue or black, and will set you back $33, or approximately six tickets to see Tesla on its forthcoming reunion tour.

Guitar Hero III Announced

Xbox 360 owners are still coming to grips with 'Guitar Hero II,' released just over a month ago, and PS2 gamers are busy whitewashing their jeans after yesterday's announcement of 'Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s'. However, Activision isn't letting up: Today the video game publisher announced the next full installment of the game, 'Guitar Hero III.' Dropping this fall, the third entrant in the franchise will hit the PS2, the Xbox 360, the PS3, and the Nintendo Wii (the first time this franchise hits the PS3 and the Wii). It will also include online multiplayer -- something sorely lacking in the earlier versions -- and Xbox 360 owners will finally get a wireless guitar.

The new guitar for all platforms will be based on the classic Gibson Les Paul design and will feature removable faceplates for easy customization (not that anyone had a hard time putting stickers on the earlier models). It's also said to feature "a new button color design that will be integrated for an even greater authentic feel and rock experience." Whether this means all the existing 'GH' guitars will be made obsolete with this latest release remains to be seen. We certainly hope that's not the case. The first 11 tunes announced are as follows:
  • 'Paint It Black' (by The Rolling Stones)
  • 'Cherub Rock' (by Smashing Pumpkins)
  • 'Sabotage' (by Beastie Boys)
  • 'The Metal' (by Tenacious D)
  • 'My Name is Jonas' (by Weezer)
  • 'Knights of Cydonia' (by Muse)
  • 'Rock And Roll All Nite' (as made famous by Kiss)
  • 'School's Out' (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
  • 'Slow Ride' (as made famous by Fog Hat)
  • 'Cult of Personality' (by Living Colour)
  • 'Barracuda' (as made famous by Heart)
Interestingly, seven of these tracks are not listed as being "as made famous by," which in the previous games was an indicator that the in-game version of the song was performed by a cover band. So, it appears 'GH3' will offer up an impressive handful of authentic songs, which is excellent.

Now, you'll have to excuse us while we prepare to bring the rock like it ain't never been broughten.
