Clive Barker's Jericho
'Clive Barker's Jericho' Hands-On
Our luck ran thick this week, as we got a chance to sit down with author/guru/artist Clive Barker to see his upcoming horror shooter 'Jericho'. This game has you working your way through time -- in reverse -- to uncover some pretty creepy, scary, evil mysteries. The story, penned by Barker, is already creepy, and the game is being built from the ground up by Spanish developer Mercury Steam. From what we saw, this will be a scare fest that horror fans will not want to miss. Expect 'Jericho' to land sometime in September (we've been told the end of that month). We'll have an interview with Clive coming soon as well.

'BioShock'
If you didn't see it yet, we got a chance to try this "genetically enhanced" first person shooter this week. See all the waterlogged details here.

'MotorStorm' Downloadable Content & Patches

For those of you who are bored with the scant play modes in Motorstorm for the PS3, your prayers have been (sort of) answered. Sony has released a new Time Attack mode for the offroad racer. This mode pits you not against other racers, but against time. Get the best lap time and move your way to the top of the online charts. You can also upload and download "ghost cars" to see how top players maneuvered the tracks. The update also fixes some bugs and random online crashes. It also contains an update to the online lobby that allows you to browse the status of rooms without actually entering them.

Out This Week
  • 'DiRT' (Xbox 360): The anticipated rally racer for the Xbox 360 finally hit shelves this week. Reviews are mixed, but rally fans should be into this one. Look for a hands-on from us next week.
  • 'Sim City DS' (Nintendo DS): As if the Nintendo handheld wasn't addictive enough, they went and released one of the most addictive games for the portable monster. Kiss your social life goodbye.
  • 'The Sims: Pet Stories' (PC): If you're tired of simming the lives of people, you can now sim the lives of pets. Sims fans will not be disappointed in this one. Non-Sims fans should move along.

MLB 07 The Show PS3What a week of gaming news! First the 'Halo 3' beta goes up, down, and up again and then Sony dumps a boat load of amazing upcoming games on us. What more could we ask for?

'MLB07: The Show'
Sony's first-party baseball game finally hits the PS3 this week, and the wait was definitely worth it. With crisp graphics, solid game play, and a thorough franchise mode, 'MLB07' finally gives PS3-owning baseball fans the hardball heavyweight they've been waiting for. Check it out and get your fix of some SIXAXIS-friendly baseball. And, yes, Boston fans, Dice-K is on the Sox's roster.

'Halo 3' Beta

Surely you've heard about the 'Halo 3' beta, both the good and the bad. This week (and now until June 10), millions of lucky people are testing out this massively popular shooter form Bungie, due September 25. If you're one of the lucky ones, enjoy the crazy weekend and take out some blues (or reds) for us.

Sony's Mega Announcements

Those who thought that the PS3 didn't have any must-have exclusive titles were sent to the quiet corner this week when Sony demonstrated more than 30 upcoming games in San Diego at Sony's Gamer's Day event. Titles we can't wait for include 'Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction', 'Warhawk', 'LittleBigPlanet', 'Uncharted: Drake's Fortune', 'Heavenly Sword', 'SOCOM Confrontation' and the trippy-looking 'Folklore'. Good stuff ahead for PS3 owners, no doubt.

Coming Next Week
Next week looks like it's going to be a bit of a wallet-buster with a couple of titles we're looking forward to, so you may want to save your money if you're not a huge baseball fan. 'Odin Sphere' for the PS2 comes out on May 22nd, combining RPG and 2-D, old-school side-scrolling elements in what looks to be an instant cult hit. In addition, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End' brings action-adventure of the finest kind to virtually all consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, PC, and Nintendo DS).

Punch-Out!!It looks like we're in for a rainy Spring weekend at the Switched headquarters. That means lots of gaming and lots of quality time with the sofa. In honor of our Lord Lazy, we feature three games that don't even require going outdoors to the game shop -- they're all downloadable on your Wii, PS3, or 360. Happy vegging!

'Punch-Out!!' On Nintendo Virtual Console
Some of you may remember this one, some of you may not. Either way, this Nintendo classic is back on the Wii's Virtual Console, and if you miss it (or missed it the first time around), you can't lose on this download. For 500 Wii Points (about $5), you can download this retro title and re-experience all the fun, controller-throwing frustration in true-to-the-classic form. If you loved the original, you'll love this one -- it's the same game.

'Ninja Gaiden Sigma' on Sony Store
Want something free? If you have a PS3, you can download the new 'Ninja Gaiden Sigma' demo and see what's coming for this re-released upgrade of the much-loved action game (originally titled 'Ninja Gaiden'). Keep in mind this game is insanely challenging, and therefore that much more satisfying when you finally bring down some of the tougher mobs of enemies.

'Eets' on Live

'Eets' came out in 2006 on the PC and quickly became one of the most-beloved indie releases of the year. This puzzler/action game is tough to describe, but fans will tell you that you just gotta try it. This week, you can download 'Eets: Chowdown' on the Xbox 360's LIVE Arcade marketplace. It will run you 800 points (around $12.50) for the full version, but you can grab the demo for free and see if you dig it. We have a feeling you will.

Still Looking for a Wii?
For those of you still looking for a Wii, we reported earlier this week that some GameStops appear to be hoarding shipments for Sunday morning. Get in line, and good luck!

Pokemon PearlIt's getting warm and since you probably have plans to get outside, we're not going to get in the way of that. This week we're featuring all portable game titles. Grab your Gameboy, DS, PSP or cell phone and get some rays.

Pokemon Pearl/Diamond
If you can find one of these two titles (they're sold out at most places), you won't be disappointed in the latest incarnation of this eternal franchise for the Nintendo DS. The two games are similar but offer different Pokemon to be found and, well, you know the saying: Gotta catch 'em all! (We apologize for that... couldn't help it.)

Prince of Persia: Rival Swords

If you you love a good action adventure and will have your PSP with you this weekend, check out the latest Prince of Persia title. The controls are intuitive and you get a nice mix of fighting, puzzles and platform gaming. It also looks pretty amazing in terms of graphics -- and that never hurts.

Ms. Pac-Man
Surely you know and love the little hungry lady hockey puck. But did you know you can now get her on your iPod? Enjoy this replica of the arcade classic wherever you go without losing all of your quarters.

Lumines Mobile

One of our favorite puzzle games ever is 'Lumines.' Originally out for the PSP, the title is now available for mobile phones. It's insanely addictive, well-designed and can be taken with you as long as you bring your cell phone (which we can't imagine you wouldn't do).

Boom Boom Rocket
As far as new blockbuster releases, this week was a bit slow, but that won't keep you from catching up on some great gaming. We have plenty of fun in store for you in this week's edition.

'Boom Boom Rocket' on Xbox Live
If you have an Xbox 360 and don't feel like stopping by a store to pick something up, you're in luck. Boom Boom Rocket was released for the Xbox Live Marketplace, which means you can download the game right to your console. This music-rhythm game involves rockets exploding over a 3D cityscape and it will easily keep you entranced for the weekend.

Super Paper Mario
We warned you about this last week, and it turns out that this Nintendo Wii title is everything we hoped it would be. With an adventure that floats you between dimensions, into traps and puzzles, and multiple playable characters (including Peach and Bowser), you're sure to have a Nintendo-quality weekend of gaming.

PS3 for $499
Sony discontinued the less-expensive 20-gigabyte PS3 this week. If you were looking to get in at the lower $499 price point, scamper out now and try to pick one up before they're all gone.

Update Your Wii
Nintendo updated the Wii Internet channel this week. Flip on your Wii for the latest update, including a new Opera web browser that's free until June, so grab it now.

Gaming This Weekend

Weekends were made for gaming (or was gaming made for weekends?). With so many choices and so little time, picking a bad game can lead to a frustrating day off. Don't waste your Sunday!

Guitar Hero II

Gather the family for Easter dinner and rock out with Guitar Hero II, finally released for the Xbox 360. For around $80-90 you get the game, a guitar controller, and hours of fun. Warning: Don't be surprised if family members take over your living room when they see this one.

Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar
Looking for a break from World of Warcraft? Perhaps you're a relentless Lord of the Rings fan. This new online game comes out April 24, but if you pre-order you can get in on the free beta test period.

Super Paper Mario
The fat plumber is back with Super Paper Mario for the Nintendo Wii. He arrives next Tuesday, but this might a reason to save your cash.

Sony PSP Drops in Price
Speaking of saving cash, if you waited all this time for Sony to drop the price on the PlayStation Portable, your wish has come true. The PSP is now $169.

Baseball is Back!
Hot dogs, beer, and the crack o' the bat. While it may still be 20-degrees outside where you live, that can't stop you from picking up one of the new baseball games: MLB 2K7 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, and Nintendo DS) or MLB: The Show (PS2, PSP, and May 15 for the PS3).
