Our Daily Deal: 1.5-Terabyte External Drive for $99.99

Our Daily Deal: 1.5 TB External Drive for $99.99
The folks over at TechDealDigger are letting us know about some of the best deals they find on gadgets every day, so we're going to pass that information on to you. After all, in these tough economic times, every little bit counts. We may not be buying Swarovski-covered iPods any time soon, but everyone needs essentials like a computer. So take a look at what the online deals site sent us today.

Everyone needs more storage for their computers. Really, there's no such thing as too much hard drive space. Whether a huge hard drive for all that downloaded (legally, of course) music, or a large-capacity drive for all our backed up data, a truly massive storage space is a welcome addition to any rig. That's why we had to tell you about this deal from Dell, forwarded to us by our good friends at TechDealDigger. Dell Small & Medium Business is selling a 1.5-terabyte external USB hard drive for $99.99 with free shipping. (In case you're counting, that's 1,500 gigabytes, or enough space to store 60 Blu-ray discs, or 375,000 songs.) That's $53 below the list price of this Western Digital Elements drive, and beats the price on the reliably cheap outlet Newegg by $30. The Elements drive series is very well reviewed and comes highly recommended, making it an all but irresistible deal.

Want to quickly turn your PC from just another Web-browsing machine into a viable entertainment center? Drop by Dell and pick up this package deal, which includes a Samsung 23-inch HD monitor and Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. While 23 inches isn't large enough to replace the TV in most living rooms, it is perfect for a dorm, bedroom, or the average New York City apartment. Add the wireless keyboard and mouse combo, which lets you sit back, relax, and cue up a movie from Netflix, or a show on Hulu, without hovering over the desk and you've got a legitimate alternative to your traditional cable box and remote setup.

Of all the gadgets you could get, the most essential is a computer. Without a PC, there is no e-mail, no putting music on your iPod, and no losing track of time in Wikipedia. Thankfully, if you're currently computer-less, or perhaps just several years past due for an upgrade, you can get a perfectly serviceable desktop and a large, wide-screen monitor for under $400. Using the coupon code, WKF35JP9FR9BLQ, you can get a Vostro 220 from Dell's Small Business site for just $386.10, plus $35 shipping.

Cheap, digital, point-and-shoot cameras are a dime a dozen. While great for simple snapshots, sometimes those $200 digicams just won't cut it. Digital SLRs, which tend to be a bit pricier, let you flex your photo creativity with larger image sensors and interchangeable lenses. Our pals at TechDealDigger pointed out a sale on a 10.1-megapixel Canon Digital Rebel XS. This entry-level Digital SLR lists for $600, but is on sale at Amazon right now for $535.

Our Daily Deal: Dell 19" Wide Screen LCD Monitor for $89

The folks over at TechDealDigger are letting us know about some of the best deals they find on gadgets every day, so we're going to pass that information on to you. For only $89 (including shipping and handling), you can get your hands on a 19-inch Dell widescreen monitor. It's got a 1000:1 contrast ratio, a 5ms response time, and an HD resolution of 1440x900 -- all this adds up to plenty of performance for gaming and watching movies, not to mention a heck of a deal for that price. If you're still using a standard 4:3 ratio monitor, or just wish you had a second monitor (which studies show can increase productivity), now's the perfect time to take the plunge.

Our Daily Deal: Olympus Stylus 830 8MP Digital Camera

Every day, the folks over at TechDealDigger are letting us know about some of the best gadget deals they can find, so we're going to pass that information on to you. Sometimes, the camera on your cell phone just won't do. That's why it's important to have a full-featured digital camera stashed somewhere for documenting life's truly important events, like your child's first birthday, or the time the cat got stuck in a plastic bag. And, while prices on quality digital cameras have dropped over the years, it's pretty hard to beat $99 for this Olympus. The camera lists for around $250 on Amazon (depending on the color), but, if you don't mind silver or orange, you can get it for $99, plus a free case, through Newegg. The Olympus 830 has an 8 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, tons of pre-set shooting modes, image stabilization features, and the ability to shoot videos with 640 x 480 pixel resolution (think high-quality YouTube videos). You'll still have to pay shipping, and buy an xD card, but it's hard to complain when you're getting a camera that lists for up to $300 at a third of the price.

Our Daily Deal: Samsung LN46A650 HDTV for $1,299

Every day, the folks over at TechDealDigger are letting us know about some of the best gadget deals they can find, so we're going to pass that information on to you. There aren't a whole lot of up-sides to this recession we find ourselves mired in, but we here at Switched are always looking for that silver lining, and, in this case, it's fast-falling TV prices. For those of us yet to hop on the HDTV bandwagon, there may not be a better time to buy. Case in point, the Samsung LN46A650, a 46-inch, full HD (1080p) LCD TV for only $1,299 plus free shipping from Fry's. The same TV will set you back more than $1,500 at Amazon.

Even better, this isn't some bargain basement TV -- it has a fast 4ms response time and 120hz refresh rate that make it perfect for watching fast-moving video (like sports) and for playing video games. It also has a feature called Infolink, which lets you get stock prices, weather, and news when hooked up to the Internet. Its Ethernet port is just one of the many, many connections this TV has; you get four HDMI ports, two component inputs, a PC input, and a USB port for hooking up external harddrives and thumbdrives loaded with your JPEGs, MPEGs, and MP3s.
