Presidential Protest for D.C. Statehood? (Blackvoices Main)
Mar 28th 2009 11:58PM I think that the District should be both a special legislative district, but represented through the nearest state to it, either Virginia or Maryland, the original donors of the land. The state that was "awarded" the District to represent would enable the residents to vote for the state's Senator, and there would be probably an additional House Representative (or two, depending on the population and the census results) for that state that received the award. As a special National District, they would still have to handle their own schools, public works and police, but the state could receive additional Federal money for their services to bolster the District operations. IM(ns)HO, I think that this would solve the representation problem without necessarily changing the whole Congressional arrangement around.
BTW: If >con< is the opposite of >pro< then is >Con-gress< the opposite of >Pro-gress
The Woman's Guide to Guy-Speak (Personal Articles)
Jan 14th 2009 10:01PM Men need to be both direct and up front, but they do not want to either hurt someone else, or be hurt by some female totally dissing him in front of all her friends. Women hang together and support each other when one of them might be dead wrong. A male might want desperately to be in relationship, but not drag the lady into it kicking and screaming. Just cooing and moaning. :-)
Wal-Mart Worried Obama Will Win (Politics Daily)
Aug 1st 2008 8:59PM There are advantages to unions that businesses can take advantage of. Unions can provide health insurance through a larger group than a single store, or even a whole chain. The company pays their portion of the health insurance premium to the union pool, and the employees use part of their union dues for the rest.
Unions can provide training and discipline under various required corporate policies: Drug use, social harrassment, sexual harrassment, theft and ethics violations, etc. If an employee can be proved to have done something wrong, the employee can: be retrained, be suspended, be excised from union activity. (News of a couple of those injunctions will get the remaining employees and union members in line!)
