N.Y. Girl, 9, is Allergic to Cold (ParentDish)
Feb 7th 2011 6:44PM The little girl who is allergic to cold is in good company -- one of America's greatest men of letters, who kicked off a massive revolution in writing and publication of horror, science fiction, and fantasy literature, had the same condition. He was "the Prophet of Providence" himself, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, born in 1890, who died in 1937.
Self-Injuring Teens Find a Bizarre New Extreme (ParentDish)
Sep 11th 2010 12:25AM You know, the cruelty of so many of the comments above makes it clear why these teens have the problems they do: rampant, egregious child abuse and murderous bullying. Sure, fine, go ahead and give a fragile young life just that extra push necessary to cause him or her to commit suicide. When the suicide is not of the age of consent, causing him or her to end that life is murder, purely and simply. Why are you so eager to commit murder, particularly the murder of a child? I'd really like to know, because I had foster parents who tried to do that to me back when, and I would really like to know what was going on in their minds that they took such pleasure in trying to kill a child who had never harmed them. Why are some people so proud of themselves for trying to make a child's life unbearable? Whatever the reason, it's clear that evil is a reality -- and such people are true and real avatars of such evil.
Still Single? Not As Skinny As You'd Like? Blame Your Mom (Lemondrop)
Feb 19th 2010 3:07PM Come next Mother's Day, how many women are going to be offed by really angry female offspring because of this article? This is as irresponsible as it gets. Yes, I am one of those women that nobody has ever loved back. Does that mean I ought to dig up my biological mother's (I was adopted out at birth) grave and abuse her corpse for revenge or something of the sort? Or just blow my brains out because my genes are bad? Come on, people, surely you can do better than *this*!

McDonald's burgers built to last (ParentDish)
Sep 27th 2008 6:43PM You want to know why there were so many negative comments here, without a shred of objective evidence to back them up, not even "I heard it from my mother's chiropractor's dog'sveterinarian's assistant"? There are idiots who dis *everything* on the Web, and always the same way: "Well, I just don't believe that," with no evidence. It makes them feel !!!IMPORTANT!!!, and has little, if anything to do with the accuracy or value of what they're putting down. Tell them that the sky is blue, they'll claim it's purple, and someone goes out to check, and sure enough, it's blue, and they say, "How do you know *that*?" with a sneer. High-school-from-Hell know-it-alls is all they are.
Tickle monster banned from park (ParentDish)
Sep 8th 2008 6:50PM Nota bene, to NATE THE OMNICOMPETENT: BTW, what's *your* interest in preventing me from protecting my children and grandchildren from the unwanted attentions of Douglas and his ilk? I once had a landlord who threw the same thing you did here at people who questioned his interest in younger and younger children of both sexes, including a desire to "tickle" them -- until he got caught at it. Now he stays under his rock and doesn't come out, for fear of having the cops all over him for attempted sexual advances toward children. Why *shouldn't* we be "paranoid," when every day articles appear in the media about sexual predators whose preferred prey are our children? Are you hiding some secrets we really need to know about, hmmm?
Tickle monster banned from park (ParentDish)
Sep 8th 2008 6:32PM When I was a child, I suffered the attentions of "ticklers" like Douglas. The psychological scars those experiences left on me were ruinous. I agree that if all Douglas was doing was *asking* to tickle others' children, that per se shouldn't be a reason to arrest him. But by his own admission, he's done this numerous times -- and sometimes parents have given him permission to tickle their children, which makes me wonder about those parents. Now: how do we know that there haven't been times where the parents weren't around and he never asked permission to tickle children -- and went ahead and did it anyway? And that "fuzzy bunny" suggests things that really ought to be looked into. All of that adds up to something a detective really ought to check out, as a matter of public safety. I'd give the man a warning -- for now -- and let him go. But I'd also be on the lookout for any other weird behavior on his part, because there're just too many things involved here that don't bear scrutiny, and I am *not* talking about the arrest.
McCain's 'Cone of Silence' (Politics Daily)
Aug 18th 2008 1:34PM An Irishman sent an email to someone in this country, saying: "On one side, you've got Senator Obama, a lawyer. Among his associates are the Clintons and John Kerry, who are, what, all lawyers. On the other, you've got a war hero who is married to a beautiful woman who owns a beer company. Now, the question is, why are you lads even bothering to hold an election?" That Irishman has it pegged.
US Airways trying bold experiment of breaking the last straw (WalletPop)
Aug 3rd 2008 11:03PM You know, this would be a great time to rediscover the delights of rail travel, at least for journeys within North America. Once upon a time, passenger trains were some of the most luxurious forms of transportation going. Even today, some passenger trains have lovely dining cars with excellent service, good beds, and everything else that makes for a truly pleasant journey. If I need to travel down the West Coast from Seattle, where I live now, to Southern California, say, I'd much rather take the train than a plane or Greyhound. Passenger trains don't have many of the problems that airlines face, either. So skip the plane and take the train (sorry for the rhyme!), and see the countryside close up and personal as you do.
