Acing a Job Interview After Age 50 (AOL Jobs)

Dec 16th 2009 12:59AM OK folks....I guess you've all gone to bed. This much "older" boomer worked 16 hours today to get the work done by a "younger" co-worker who's calling in sick to use all her sick days before year end.

Dec 16th 2009 12:53AM See.....I made a typo myself!

Acing a Job Interview After Age 50 (AOL Jobs)

Dec 16th 2009 12:45AM Folks, let's not dwell on the f"manger" typo. The author is probably not a "boomer" but we boomers also make typos. Let's focus on the real issue. While the above article is correct, since I've been on both sides of the fence and in Human Resources, I can speak with authority. Corporate America, unless they have Department of Labor statistics/requirements/quotas to meet, would prefer to hire younger people who will fit in with their younger employees. The younger people do not want to feel that their parent is working beside them. They have a different lifestyle, talk about their "kegger" parties, getting drunk, hooking up and cannot relate to us boomers who may be celebrating a 20th or longer wedding anniversary, have grandkids, or arthritis. We do NOT fit in and for that reason, the hiring "manger" will dismiss us regardless of how highly qualified, hardworking and personable we are. That's the reality. So, you just have to keep trying and hopefully will try looking for work at a smaller company.

Tech Tips for Looking Busy at Work (Switched)

Jun 1st 2007 9:52PM These tips are a disservice and only promote more dishonesty and slacking in the workplace. There are plenty of people who are out of work, especially over 40 years old, who even tho competent and not suffering from dementia, would be happy to have a job and work hard.

Katie Couric: The Anchor Drops The Anvil (This Just In)

Apr 6th 2007 11:24PM Julie, # 124, realistically speaking, don't you think Katie has been given enough time to acclimate? NBC Nightly News is big time stuff and viewers expect someone to be "up and running" and not learning on the job. Also, I don't think it will be up to her to determine when she leaves. I think the way business works is that she will be "asked to leave."

Katie Couric: The Anchor Drops The Anvil (This Just In)

Apr 6th 2007 11:17PM Katy went from America's Sweetheart when she first began on the Today Show with her genuine midwest style to not being liked because she became a diva. She could have continued to pull it off on the Today show, but the real problem is because it is difficult to transition from the Today Show type of role to the serious news role. The image is too ingrained in peoples' minds. Bad career move!

Katie Couric: The Anchor Drops The Anvil (This Just In)

Apr 6th 2007 11:07PM I saw Katie on the CBS News once. She turns me off. I work in Rockefeller Center (where NBC is located) and frequently passed by when Katie and Co. were preparing for the Today show. Rumor has it that Katie changed from the "America's Sweetheart" to a primadonna/diva personae and often showed up late for the show and felt she wa above it all. She can't hold a candle to Brian Williams.
