Donald Trump Accused of Fixing Miss Universe Pageant (PopEater)

Sep 3rd 2009 11:32AM I'm always surprised to learn that pageants still exist. Every year I think the whole thing stopped a couple of decades ago. What's the point of them? Seems to be the absolutely worst kind of venal reviewing - and makes no sense to a culture that should be helping people bring out their best regardless of physical appearance. Seems to appeal to the kind of body-worship that leads to eating disorders, self-esteem problems and even depression. I haven't watched one since the 1970s, and don't know anybody who does.

First Google Chrome OS screenshots leaked? Update: it's a fake (Engadget)

Jul 9th 2009 9:07PM That Google would go after this new business surprises only those that don't understand Google. Industrial-era thinkers believe you should "stick to your focus". Like GM. But Google knows that in an information economy if you don't keep moving into new markets with new technologies looking for more revenues you won't survive. Apple moves one million iPhone 3G S units in a weekend -- just in time for Steve's return (Engadget)

Jun 22nd 2009 10:24PM It's great news for Apple that we learn Steve Jobs has been out of commission with a liver transplant the same weekend we learn new iPhone sales exceed expectations by 33-50%. Shows that Apple is headed in the right direction. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com

Amazon to Reveal Big-Screen Kindle Wednesday? (Switched)

May 4th 2009 10:12PM Will Kindle be a savior for newspapers? Maybe so. Kindle might be the product to finally get newspapers to realize they have to go digital. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com

NYT: Big-screen Kindle coming from Amazon "as early as this week" (Engadget)

No good news at The New York Times (Daily Finance)

Apr 22nd 2009 10:46PM NYT made decisions sealing its fate as early as 1995 when it declined buying into Monster.com. NYT was so convinced of its old business model it refused to consider changes, and now the market has shifted leaving NYT uneconomic. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com

IBM's offer for Sun stalls - Yahoo and Microsoft all over again? (Daily Finance)

Apr 9th 2009 6:48PM Sun really made only 1 big mistake. It never changed its commitment to its initial success formula - so when the market shifted Sun had no idea what to do. Without developing the ability to shift with markets, any company can pull a "Sun" and fail. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com

Obama to GM CEO Wagoner: You're fired! (Daily Finance)

Mar 30th 2009 11:42AM This is what happens when you lose your position as #1. It doesn't take long for people to start envisioning a world without you. GM started on the road to irrelevant years ago by focusing internally rather than on the market - missing all major shifts and becoming also-ran. Obama's team is telling everyone (auto and banking) that if you can't prove you know where the market is heading and demonstrate you can get back in front, then there's little reason to support you. General Motors to suggest bankruptcy as an option (BloggingStocks)

Feb 16th 2009 10:37PM When will we realize that the people that caused the auto crisis cannot create a solution? New leadership is a requirement, not an option. If management won't resign, we must replace them in order to create Disruptions and a new solution making the American companies viable again. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com

Are there brighter days ahead for Sun Microsystems? (BloggingStocks)

Feb 15th 2009 10:35PM Sun simply refused to modify its Success Formula. Remember when the company launched Java? But leadership (McNeely) would not transition the company to its real source of value - software. Thus it let competitors, including Linux and Microsoft keep closing the price/performance gap. Too bad the company wouldn't use White Space to evolve on the strength of its innovations. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com
