The Daily Fix: Cover a Scratch or Chip in Your Hardwood Floor (DIY Life)
Feb 24th 2010 1:10PM A trick I've used on dents is to place a damp terrycloth towel over the dent, and rub a hot clothing iron over it. The moisture swells the dent out. Be carefull not to burn the finish. This also works for bringing candlewax out of carpets.
U.S. Army to give long-serving Humvee honorable discharge? (Autoblog)
Feb 17th 2010 11:46AM Sure the HMMWV is a big pig, but it was Much better then the M3Jeep. I was in at the transition and have driven both. The M3 had NO small arms protection, and killed many of its passengers while performing NON-COMBAT rolls. The wheel base on the M3 was too short and the thing would roll over at 30 mph with a slight turn of the wheel.
My biggest problem with the HMMWV was the orriginal GM powerplant which went through high pressure fuel pumps like a Phillipino prostitue goes through Johns!
The fact was that with the development of the Abrams tank which could travel much faster then the old M60 the Millitary needed a light wheeled vehicle that could keep up, and the HMMWV did that! The designers never thought that they would have to worry about I.E.D.'s burried in the roads. They were more interested in a vehicle which could be used against the Soviet block who were our problem at the time.
Woman mistakenly declared dead by credit reporting agency (WalletPop)
Feb 16th 2010 9:41AM When I got out of the army in 1996, I went to apply for a civilian drivers licence in the state of Connecticut. I was turned down because the Michigan department of vital statistics had me listed as dead. It seems that my cousin had died, and since ourt names are the same, and our social security numbers are off by 2 number digits, the hospital where we were both born and where he died filed us both as dead rather then try to figure out which of us was actually on the morgue slab.
It took a lawyer and $6000. to fix it but I now have my drivers licence.
Plane Answers: NTSB glosses over fatigue in the Colgan crash (Gadling)
Feb 8th 2010 10:10AM I'm not a pilot, I'm a truck driver. My rig has a computer which tells my dispatcher how many hours I've been rolling. I am required by law to stop after 10 hours of driving and rest. If I drive and load or unload my truck and this takes 15 hours to complete in a 24 hour period, I am required to take 24 hours off by law. My dispatcher knows how long I have been working, and has control through the computer in my truck to force me to stop and rest. My logs are checked by the company and by each states DOT every time I hit a manditory scale. I seldom get home for more then 2 days a month, but I am well rested, and if I have any measureable amount of alcohal in my blood or breath I can be put out of service for 24 hours, and loose my job.
How is it you pilots aren't kept up to the same standards as I am?

Oct 24th 2009 8:18AM Were it my choice they would be pulling out the detainees toenails, crushing their fingers, breaking their knees, and plucking out their eyes. Toby and all you other "artists" who complain have seen the last royalty penny from me!

Virginia trying to ban Truck Nuts (Autoblog)
Jan 21st 2008 8:38PM I would think that with a country as messed up as this one, on an election year at that, shouldn't they be discussing more important issues?

RIAA Claims Ripping CDs for Personal Use is Illegal (Switched)
Dec 11th 2007 6:37PM What is the difference between sharing my cds' on an MP3 share site, and buying a CDs' for gifts? The way I see it the recipient has still gotten the disc without paying royalties to the manufacrurer. The point of these MP3 share sites is that NO-ONE is being paid. Money does NOT change hands, which would make the copying of the mp3 file a gift.
Now I could see a problem if I were paying for membership to the share site, and the manufaturer wasn't getting their royalty, that would be theft!
