World War II Vet John Potter, 91, Faces Eviction by Daughter (AOL Real Estate)

Apr 25th 2013 4:49PM Just because he gave his daughter a power of attorney, does not give her license to steal. I suggest remaining family members contact police to have her charged with elder abuse.

Denver HOA Looks to Ban Sidewalk Chalk Art (AOL Real Estate)

Jun 11th 2012 5:33PM My HOA came after me because I had a bookcase and a table on my front porch. They say I now owe them over $4,000 and have placed liens against my home. To everyone buying a home, don't live in any area where a HOA rules.

Video: Milky Way from the plains (Gadling)

Jul 3rd 2011 3:42PM City dwellers have to realize that this is what the sky looks like on a moonless night when you are out away from the city lights and dirty air. It is magnificant.

Too Good to Be Food: Blue Diamond Almond Milk (That's Fit)

Feb 17th 2011 9:50PM Used to have 40 milking Nubians. The goats that had off-flavored milk were sold. Did a taste test with the goat milk against regular 3.5% butterfat cows milk and the only difference people could detect was they thought both test samples were cow's milk and the goat milk was really cow's milk with added cream. Delicious!!!!! In the spring my butterfat, all healthy fat, tests approached 9%, and the milk tasted like melted ice cream. Goats were grass fed with no rBGH, which affects fat composition just like it unfortunately does in cows.

Cursive Handwriting Getting Erased as Schools Teach Typing Over Script (ParentDish)

Jan 24th 2011 12:19PM Wait until all these kids, who do not know cursive writing, get to high school and college, where you might be required to take notes in class. I can print really fast, but I can record ideas in print only about half as fast as in cursive writing.

Nelson Brothers Issue Statement About 'Uncle' David Nelson's Death (Spinner)

Jan 12th 2011 11:12PM The resemblence to their father is striking. Always like The Ozzie and Hariet Show. The loss of your uncle is very sad. Never seen a guitar with so many strings. Could someone tell me about it?

Can't GMOs and Organics Just Get Along? (Slashfood)

Jan 10th 2011 10:05PM Apparently no one has heard of the medical researcher somewhere on the East Coast, who wanted to discover if the Roundup Ready DNA could transfer to human gut bacteria, which produce vitamin K , immunity factors, etc. He recruited 30 volunteers to eat a special GMO meal. Unfortunately, his experiment was a failure: pretesting showed all his test subjects were already contaminated with bacteria containing Roundup Ready DNA proving that it can transfer inter-species. Or the creek in Indiana that was downstream from a GMO cornfield with all creek organisms that were tested, both plants and animals, showing GMO contamination. Who knows what the complications might be for humans? Animals (chickens, hogs, and cattle), given a choice between GMO corn and non- GMO corn would not eat the GMO corn. This last experiment was conducted in several countries using different breeds of test animals. In the USA, companies are not required to label food made with GMO ingredients. So eat organic. The FDA is not doing its job of keeping our food safe. The FDA seems to be like our Congress---bought and paid for.

Octogenarians Fined $12,000 Over Cat (Pawnation OLD)

Jan 8th 2011 5:58PM COAs and HOAs are all the same: a bunch of very little people attempting to force crazy, nonsensical rules onto others. Bueaucracy gone wild. Yah! Nazis. Yah!
I live in a state in the desert southwest having 340 days of sunshine every year; it took our state legislature to prohibit the HOAs from outlawing solar collectors on roofs. There are several websites claiming COAs and HOAs are unconstitutional because no states have laws permiting the state or any municipality to delegate such activities to legally unmonitored committees. No one voted on or approved the rules to be enforced, and in my community the rules are not enforced on everyone, but at the whim of one or more committee members.

Consumer Complaints Against DIRECTV lead to $14 million Settlement (WalletPop)

Dec 15th 2010 2:10AM Part 2. In summer of 2009, I received a letter from DIRECTV saying that my local channels were being changed to those from Tucson, AZ. (I live in a suburb of Phoenix AZ, and could care less what goes on in Tucson.) Called customer service and was told that I didn't know where I lived. Tried again in September and again in October with the same results. (At least they are consistent.) In late October a DIRECTV repair man appeared at my door to "update" my dish. All he did was run new cables up to the single "silver dollar." I asked if his activities were to preserve my PHX local channels and he said, "No." In November, my PHX local channels disappeared. Called customer service a fourth time and again let off some steam--seems to be the only thing they understand-- and went thru 4 layers of customer service people. 3 days later another repairman arrived and rewired the dish, this time with 3 "silver dollars." There was never a monetary adjustment for the time I was without full service.

Consumer Complaints Against DIRECTV lead to $14 million Settlement (WalletPop)

Dec 15th 2010 1:39AM PART 1. A loyal customer of DIRECTV since August, 2000, I had no problem until summer 2008. They had scaled back their program mag to cover only primetime. (I worked nights and never saw primetime.) When bill came to renew subscription to the mag, I went online, canceled it, and remitted my usual monthly payment. The next month, I received a late payment bill. Called customer service and was told I had to send in the full payment (including the renew fee for the mag). Could not make them understand I no longer wanted the mag. The following month, my bill said that if I did not send in the delinquent payment amount, my service would be terminated. Called customer service again with the same result as before. In late August my service stopped. Called customer service a third time and really let off some steam. My service was restored 5 days later. There never was a monetary adjustment for the period I was disconnected.
