How to Get Rid of Pet Hair: Testing 7 Odd Ways (Shelterpop)

Sep 18th 2011 8:25PM A Man's Trick - I've always used the outer edge of my tennis shoe (or most any softer 'rubber sole' shoe) in a light scraping motion to roll up the cat or dog fur into clumped pieces that can be picked up.
This works great on furniture with most all types of materials, and won't damage the fabric. Go with the direction/flow of the fabric if it's like a cut velvet type. Also works on bedspreads and quilts.
Scraping the shoe a little harder in short strokes on carpets will get most all of it up and into the clumps, and it will fluff the loops as well.
I've had both cats & dogs in all of my 50 years of life and this is THE most efecctive way I've found, but the tape method usually works best for t-shirts & other clothing; Take 8-10 inches of tape and connect the end with the stucky side out and let it roll on the fabric as you pass your hand over. It will pick up the hair and tossed when full. Repeat if needed. The wadding into a ball method just wastes the tape with untouched sticky areas.

Living Without: Could You Deal With No Cable TV? (Shelterpop)

May 16th 2011 1:24PM For movies- I will get the full-bore cable setup with all the movie channels and record the better movies that I don't mind watching again. Then I'll cancel the movie channels leaving just basic service so I can still get the local news and the History/Discovery/Science channels. I can watch movies for quite a while that way. I've got nearly a thousand great and classic movies by now that way. After watching the latest ones a few times, and if I wait long enough, I can re-up the movie channels again under "new customer prices" to record more.

In this digital age, it would be great if we could just select from up to 10, 20, or more of our favorite cable channels in a package deal rather than what selection of channels they think we should get or pay for in certain bundles of channels just to the one channel you may want.

We should be able to select what specific channels we want rather than paying for unwanted shopping and children's channels. And even worse, having to support unwanted spanish channels in "package deals" just to get the History or Speed channel. In the US, if they want spanish channels, these should only be for the purpose of helping imigrants to learn English. If they really miss their spanish soap-operas... I'm sure they are brodcasting it back in thier own country. Not being predjudice or racist, just realistic for an older American seeing the mass influx of those that do not wish to conform to American society like those that came to this country beforehand.

NASCAR Issues Technical Changes for Safety's Sake (Fanhouse Motorsports Blog)

Feb 14th 2011 2:25PM I agree, get rid of the cookie-cutter body templates. I remember the cars of the 70's when I first started watching Nascar and seeing the differences in the factory car shapes and designs. Today, these are merely representations of the factory made cars and no factory produced car truly resembles that shape to begin with. I understand how some regulations are to allow smaller teams to compete against the high-dollar teams, but there has to be a point where it goes back to the factory designs & inovations available to the public being proven on the track rather than merely using race application only parts and simply leaving the stock factory cars with older and cheaper technology for us.

Undercover Boss Ronald Croatti of UniFirst Gets the Hippie Look (AOL Jobs)

Jan 10th 2011 4:07PM I'm an automotive mechanic and I'd like to see "flat-rate" eliminated because it is based on the time it takes to work on clean new cars without rusty bolts or bent parts. At times there are reasons why a repair job takes longer yet mechanics often do not get paid for complications that cause delays. I'd like to see the writers of these "flat rate" guides try turning a wrench themselves to see how long something actually takes on cars that have been driven for a while.

Seven Things You Should Never Say in a Job Interview (AOL Jobs)

Dec 19th 2010 6:14PM There should not be ANY bilingual requirements or preferences for any common everyday job that does not deal directly with international trade. So basically, when we are at the drive-thru at McD's ordering a burger, you can understand what they say. Or getting the right car parts (O'Reily's) the first time because neither of you can understand each other. Speaking Spanish should not be a preference over ANY English only speaking fully qualified applicant!

If I were to move to another coutry with a different base language, then I would fully expect to learn that local language to function and not expect everything to be bi-lingual or hire specific employees merely to accomodate my presence there.

Just as new immigrants to this country should feel proudly obligated (if not being required) to learn the language of the land to assimilate themselves into functioning members of society within this country just as most of our ancestors did through Ellis Island and were very proud to do so rather than the current trend of expecting this nation, and it's citizens to accomodate them.

Congress considers a bill that could help your credit report (WalletPop)

Oct 3rd 2010 1:58PM If doctors would quit hiding behind the word "practicing" and actually become experts in their trade as expected of any of us in any other profession, then their fees may be worth what they charge. Automotive mechanics are most underpaid comparison even though they are required to learn nearly the same amount of knowledge or more to be proficient in ther job and fix the problem correctly the first time. You never hear a mechanic say; "Let's try this... and make another appointment." This way doctors get paid twice, or more for each visit to "try" something else to cure you. Far too many people forego seeing a doctor due to overpriced office visits or lack of overpriced medical insurance, and their income may be just over the cut-off for state benefits. Often these unused medical insurance premiums over several years are going to waste for healthy people whom rarely need to see a doctor or choose not to tie up the doctor for every little belly-ache and hang-nail and taking up appointments better filled by really sick people. There has got to be a better way. Healthy people should get a discount for not needing to be seen often and rates should not increase for when they do. Unlike mandated car insurance that raises your rates due to any claim you make, be it your fault or not.

Lindsay Refuses to Leave Jail Until She Gets Hair Done (PopEater)

Jul 29th 2010 3:01PM She should be required to stay the entire 90 days just like any other person who contempts the court's orders and be subject to the maximum sentences for the original crimes. No celebrity should be considered any better privelaged than your average criminal, or anyone else facing similar charges should be able to expect the same easy treatment.

Besides, the idiots out there that think she should get special treatment are probably the same ones that would pay money for a tour to see where Lindsay poo'd.

Real Estate Firm Puts Up a Sign for 'Whites Only' (BV Black Spin)

Jun 8th 2010 3:21PM The owner should have the full right to sell it to whomever he wants, and decline the sale to whomever he does not want to sell it to. If I decide to sell my classic 60's muscle car, I will refuse to sell it to a teenager who will trash it and reserve the "right" to only sell it to someone who will actually appreciate it for what it is. The same logic should apply here... only sell it to whomever you want. After that, it's up to the current owner to decide what to do with it.

Family Dollar recalls 1.8 million toy dart sets after two children die (WalletPop)
