Nov 16th 2009 3:54AM Its about time!! First I want to say I am NOT one of those left coast liberals but a very conservative middle aged man with a real education. I can't believe there are still so many of you who are against , or so you say, legalizing marijuana . This is the very plant that helped our country get on its feet during the early days of our republic (for those of you who don't know we live in a republic ,not a democracy like it seems the government schools are teaching now). Yes there are stoners who will abuse its use just like everything else has people who abuse other things,but the hemp plant is possibly the single most useful plant on the earth. it can provide low cost renewable fuel, food, textiles that are far better than cotton or any man made materials and the highest quality paper know to man, Did you know the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence where written on hemp paper. It just happens to be a plus that it also can get you high as well. I would be willing to bet some of you who are publicly denouncing it smoke a little yourself from time to time. If someone is going to blast me and tell me I need to get my facts straight I say you should check before saying anything yourself.The reason marijuana is illegal is big companies like DuPont did not want hemp around to compete with their new man made materials and the feds had nothing else to do when prohibition was repealed so in 1937 they gave the a new 'drug' to chase after. One more thing to think about. It is possible to drink to the point of coma or even death, this is impossible with marijuana. The worst thing that can happen is you might get sleepy. And I can't wait to hear from those of you who are going to tell me how you know someone or are have a family member who's life was ruined by pot,I bet there was more to than just pot. Like the lady who said her ex used to beat her alt the while smoking pot,bet he probably drank a little too.
