Is Your Neighborhood Safe? These Sites Have the Answer. (Switched)
Jan 19th 2009 6:34PM After 30 years in corporate America, I have chosen to teach in one of the under funded school districts in Illinois. I also prefer middle school because, even though it is an age where the children are the most undisciplined; it is also an age where I believe they need the most guidence and mentoring. I have found that if you take the right approach the majority of the children can be reached. I have taught students where teachers have quit after one day of teaching, and I have survived. It is a tough job,it doesn't pay well, however, it is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have been blessed with three great children. One is a graduate of an HBCU (Historically Black College or University) One is attending a small college in Wisconsin, doing extremely well, and plans to teach when he graduates. My youngest is is still in highschool and college bound. (My wife is also extremely involved in their upbringing) I share the experiences of my children with many of my students and have found that many of them relate and find hope for themselves. This generation of all students including African American can be reached if we take the time.
Don Imus Roundup (AOL Video Blog)
Apr 10th 2007 4:22PM I am an African American male and former Division 1 Basketball player.I do believe that Imus went over the edge. These are College Basketball players not public figures. However, even though the comment is racist, I don't believe that Imus is. He is just ignorant over the hurtfullness of what he said. Unlike many who hurt on purpose I don't believe that he did.
Instead of him being fired I would rather see him take the money that he would loose by being suspended and donete it to the United Negro College Fund. Let's be Christians and forgive him and at the same time make something possitive out of something negative. There are many youths who would benefit more from a donation to UNCF than from him being fired.
Cuban And Rodman Join Forces For Freak-Show (Fanhouse NBA Blog)
Feb 1st 2007 6:55PM Dennis was a great player and one of the best rebounders in the history of the game. It is a shame he wasn't reconized more for his abilities and his willingness to leave it all on the court.
He's also a much better actor than Michael Jordon. I wish him God's speed.
