Wal-Mart (WMT) turns to acquisitions after 25 years: It's a sign of weakness (BloggingStocks)
Sep 10th 2007 7:30PM First of all, all of you Walmart supporters out there that keep harping on the fact that they will match/comp any price from another store..... well first of all the item has to be the same, brand, size, etc. Unless of course it's something generic like produce. Well when they run the other stores out of business in a smaller town.... whose prices are you going to quote to get a lower one? Don't think they'll take the ads in a paper from another state.
And for all those that don't believe how Walmart works when entering a community.... my son works as a manager for one of our local markets. When Walmart came into our community three of their gestapo executives paid a "kindly" visit to both of the local markets. My son along with the owner of the market and two other managers were present at the "meeting". The message short and sweet was "we'll be opening in about 2 weeks.... we're just here to convey a message..... DO NOT try to undercut our prices or we'll bury you" quote... word for word... and then they left.... no discussion... no hey there how you doing. That was it. Well fortunately the people in this community have a little sense of pride and sense about them. Both local markets are still in operation and doing quite well, in fact the one my son works at just opened another branch in a nearby town.
I personally do not like Walmart, they force feed you what they want...... try and find the brands and products you're looking for.....ask them for assistance. See what answers you get. I know one lady who works for our local store and she said in one of their meetings they employees were told "the store comes first.....the customer comes last". They have 20 checkout counters and rarely are more than 3 or 4 open at one time. Rarely is someone behind the customer service desk. I am VERY vocal when I shop there making loud comments at the checkout while having to wait forever to get checked out. One time I loudly said "where the hell is the manager" the clerk replied "hiding as usual". The service sucks, the employees don't care (not blaming them one bit) and the products are 75% (at least) made in China. So before anyone says "so why do you shop there at all?" Because this is a very small tourist area... there are no places anymore to buy household items.... they were all put out of business by Walmart. The closest town is 50 miles away.... with the cost of gas it doesn't pay... so put up with the aggravation or do without.
If you talk to the employees they will beg you to go on line and send emails to the Walmart site where they "care" what you think. HAH !!! I've sent 5 emails and not received one reply. One time I went in, fed up, and talked to an employee..... she begged me to please wait....... please tell the manager... why? Because she said "they don't listen to us". Obviously they don't listen to anyone. I'd love to attend one of their "indoctrination camps" for managers sometime and see what is said.
Vodka makes a great hand sanitizer (DIY Life)
Aug 16th 2007 10:22AM The only thing I find wrong with this formula is the statement that it uses " household ingredients that are easily attainable, both qualities I appreciate." I don't know about everyone else but last time I looked there wasn't any Vodka in my cupboards. Is Vodka a "household" item?
Guess it must be in Heather's. I will have to run to the liquor store before I can whip up a batch of this.
The Best Free Stuff on the Internet: Phones (Switched)
May 4th 2007 2:52AM Wirefly is a ripoff when it comes to rebating the cost of the phone. If you're lucky you might get your rebate but it will take almost a year to get it. Plus they give you so many tricky conditions to follow that anyone can see they're obviously hoping you'll fail to follow one of them... i.e. rebates can only be sent during a certain time frame, packaged in a certain way. And their rebate company has more excuses than a politician on why your rebate hasn't been processed yet. If you inquire you'll possibly get a reply stating "in process... allow another 3 weeks". Took me just about a year to obtain a rebate. Nice way to keep your money. Oh yeah... you pay for the phone up front and THEN get the cost rebated. HAH !!!! Many complaints have been lodged against this outfit but they still seem to be in business.
Lohan Wants to be Wonder Woman ... (Cinematical)
Mar 30th 2006 3:08AM Sheeesssh, does anyone care anymore about making a movie that might actually try and stay close to the material it's taken from? As someone that grew up on comic books when they were a dime and you actually got a "book" meaning two or three stories, many pages...instead of the ones today with 6 pages of glory hound artist gratification....come on people. I love the comments from people who apparently don't even have a passing idea of what the hero in the comic book looked or acted like. I'm not going to bad mouth Lindsay Lohan as any kind of performer other than to say....she's not Wonder Woman. If they want to make a movie about when she was a girl...well then okay....but Wonder Woman hit the world fully grown people....they didn't see her as a teenager. I don't care who fills the role other than get someone that looks like Wonder "Woman" not Wonder Girl. If this trend continues I'm going to nominate Macaulay Culkin as the next actor for a Batman sequel. Makes as much sense as what I see going on here.
Super Bowl Snacks: "Walking Taco" (Slashfood)
Feb 1st 2006 5:35PM Couldn't agree more with the #1 comment from Frank. This is a good recipe but it is a recipe for 7-Layer Dip. The term 'Walking Taco' was derived from fairs and festivals where traditional taco ingredients are placed inside a bag of chips and then carried around to eat...hence 'Walking Taco'. The only way this recipe could possibly fall under a 'Walking Taco' is if someone carried the plate around to everyone as they dipped their chips into it. Very bad misnomer for a good recipe!
