Wendy's is fastest; Chick-fil-A is best overall on drive-thru survey {WalletPop}

Oct 7th 2008 11:46AM At Wendy's drive-through, my experience has been: do NOT make eye contact; do NOT ask questions; do NOT count your change: do NOT check your order BECAUSE they are on a 30-second timer and the employees get berated if they exceed their 30-second goal per customer...that is WHY you are told to leave the window and pull over and wait! And IF you do check your order or count your change, they keep rudely saying, "Thank YOU!" and nodding to MOVE ON! Dave would turn over in his grave if he knew the way customers are treated...especially being served uncooked burgers (it's happened several times) and being given twice-cooked fries. Wendy's customer service is as awful as the snippy teenagers who treat customers like dirt at Starbucks! Save your money, cook your own food and make your own coffee at home :) yes yes yes we can be taught!

Keep Candy Around, Actually Eat Less? {Lemondrop}

Sep 17th 2008 1:25PM I have a "chocolate box" that I keep my most favorite expensive favorite exquisite chocolate bars in. I like knowing it is "just there" and it isn't a temptation to eat them every day. They are for special and I eat a square and put the rest away for another time. Restraint and Discipline are still politically correct virtues folks. It is OK to have candy around. Make your own if you like :) "Just give me chocolate and nobody gets hurt" was on a t-shirt in a Giant Eagle grocery store I saw back in the 80s. It's nice to have a piece of chocolate every day! Yay!

McCain's Convention Nightmare {Political Machine Blog}

Jul 7th 2008 4:16PM That everyone makes an issue out of age, gender and skin color demonstrates just how far this nation has NOT come as to equality. I wanted to vote for Huckabee for president BECAUSE he has the most experience governing. McCain only knows how to serve his constituants, same with Mr. "Present" Obama. And McCain's age IS an issue: it means experience and a history of service. Obama waffles and doesn't take a stand. What difference should it make if one is black or white or red or brown? None! Or what gender they are? None! Hillary would have made a good president. So would Huckabee. Seems like we have to choose again between two evils: younth and inexperience OR experience and set in ways? I don't think either choice are best for out nation. Where are the true statesman who are untarnished, unblemished, have a true sterling record of service and who aren't spending millions of dollars in PAC donations to get elected? Huckabee was our chance. I still want to vote for him. Race and gender are just an excuse to vote prejudically. Not good for our country. There is a long way to go and we need a strong honest hardworking person as president. Is there such a person around?

Fix It or Toss It? 7 {Switched.com}

Jun 26th 2008 7:05PM Dell repaired a laptop. The repair cost way less than a new laptop. We had already replaced the harddrive with a better one and increased the RAM and it was a top of the line laptop. 3 years old. The LCD that Dell put in was only $199 and it was an upgrade from what we had. And we have a warranty again AND they troubleshooted the entire laptop AND sent the proper laptop cushioned box for shipping by DHL to our front door and we had curb pickup and delivery in a few days. It was well worth the cost to repair the laptop. Recommend doing homework and checking out the cost of new comparing cost of repair. DELL did great work and it would have cost over $2000 to replace the laptop PLUS pay another $400 for extended warranty. So it depends. Our 3-year old top of the line laptop was worth fixing.

George to Dr. Phil: Dance, Fool, Dance! {TMZ}

Jun 26th 2008 6:42PM Assuming you JUST KNOW what someone, anyone, is thinking because you assume they "look bored" at a concert is childish on the part of the individual doing the speculating. Just because you think it--that doesn't make it true. If I had taken my spouse to a concert and was being verbally assaulted, I'd leave too. Dr. Phil had the right as a paying concert attendee to enjoy the concert. The person who insulted him should apologize and they should have their ticket money refunded. Just because he has a tv show doesn't give us the right to assume anything about Dr. Phil. This story is just plain trash journalism.

Hot Seat: What's in a Name? {Political Machine Blog}

Feb 27th 2008 5:59PM I don't want him for president, no matter what his middle name is. Any man who consistantly habitually votes "present" in his own state political issues is not qualified to be president. Just what KIND of change will he lead toward? I don't trust him.

Straw Poll: Dec. 21 - Jan. 4 {Political Machine Blog}

Jan 3rd 2008 4:18PM Hey Ralph, your generalized biased commentary slamming Israel and Christians merely showcase, in my opinion, your ignorance.

There is no such thing as "most" anybodies...we are all individuals. Not everyone in Israel believes the same thing. Just like not everyone who "professes" to be a Christian means the same thing by the term "Christian." Christians as well as Israelis as well as athiests come in all shapes and sizes and colors.

Do you have documentation to back up your generalizations? I can go sit in a dark room and spout generalizations and prejudices and ignorant biases and bigotry--that doesn't make me a journalist does it? Or a liberal?

This is important though, because many Americans will or will not vote because they feel helpless and overwhelmed and that it doesn't make a difference. And some will vote for all the wrong reasons: because of skin color, age, gender.

It isn't about who gives the best speeches, serves the best coffee and donuts, shakes the most hands, and kisses the most babies, or who can stay up the latest and make the most New Year's Eve pit stops at rallies.

It IS about the future of our nation because each president leaves a legacy which impacts the future. For that reason, I would vote for Hillary, because I believe she has the experience, the life skills, the support of her husband who HAS been there-done that and they have the most to offer this nation. Believe it! If Hillary is elected, her husband Bill WILL have a huge part in her success as president. What other candidate can offer that kind of experience? None of the others. None.

Just like a president's wife influences her husband while he is president, a president's husband would do the same. When Bill Clinton was president, his wife Hillary did a LOT of good for our country. She was a great first lady under a lot of pressure. AND their marriage has weathered the stress and test of time and their daughter isn't a rabble-rouser and in trouble.

I think Hillary may be our next President. We should be prayiing for whoever it is, because whoever is our next president has a lot of work to do in getting our "democratically controlled" congress off their politial butts and working for their pay!

Straw Poll: Dec. 21 - Jan. 4 {Political Machine Blog}

Jan 3rd 2008 4:05PM I agree 100% with RudyMyHero's comments:
Gayle,
that's really a funny poem.
about your statement: ""STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. ""

You forget that 100 years ago America didn't feel obliged to protect Israel the way it thankfully does today. Government simply didn't so much money back then. Israel didn't exist at that time.

It's costly to help Israel get rid of her enemies, particularly if she manages to acquire new enemies on a monthly basis. But it's worth the price, isn't it?

These are not popular "sentiments" but in my little corner of the world, they are 100% accurate and valid. I wish more women would stay home and rear their children and do without "things." Kids don't need cell phones, ipods, pagers, a tv in their room, their own computer, fancy cars. Kids need parenting and that means parents in our nation need to step back from being drunk on work and materialism and sober up to the responsibilities of taking care of their children. Also, I pray America does not ever forsake Israel "the apple of God's eye." I am a stay-at-home mom. I don't have fancy clothes, a new car, (ours is almost 20 years old and was given to us by a dear friend when our old one bit the dust), we don't have a big house we have a little apartment. But our kids have parents who love them and set boundaries and they know the meaning of "no" and they know what it means to respect and love and pray for their leaders and their neighbors and give back to their community. Most of the kids around where I live don't have a father in the home. That is sad. Most of the moms are in recovery programs. That is sad. But most of these young moms had mothers who choose to work and never modeled or taught their daughters how to be a mom, a wife, and a homemaker. What kind of president do we want in America? What values do they model? A man who forsakes his marriage vows and divorces one women to marry another is no person who should be trusted with the office of president. I would vote for Hillary Clinton because she respects her husband and doesn't trash him. I would vote for Huckabee because I think he is real and he isn't hiding any agenda and I like his values. It is a hard choice and too early to tell. Like others, I do not believe Iowa has anything to do with it, except that they happen to be "first" in this whole shindig.

Straw Poll: Dec. 21 - Jan. 4 {Political Machine Blog}

Jan 3rd 2008 3:53PM It is unwise to put a young untested person in office or position of leadership. Hillary has the experience needed to be president. Obama has not stood the test of time, he is too young. Huckabee would be my next choice if not Hillary Clinton. I do believe Hillary would raise taxes and increase the burden of government. I do not believe Huckabee would continue on the "big government" slave-mentality of "let the government take care of you." I am 100% against socialized medicine. I do believe Hillary would get the job done as to finishing the job and meeting objectives for national security in Afghanistan and Iraq. I do believe she would address the concerns in Africa. I do believe she would tackle the international community's tyrant governments and especially Russia--the big bear who may have been on a diet--but his claws and teeth are still as strong. Russia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, North Korea, China, Africa: who has the guts and stamina to face these challenges and be tough? I do believe Clinton would stand strong. I believe Huckabee would also. For many years it seems the pool of presidential candidates could be likened to a pile of rotting meat: try and pick the least offensive. Where are the GREAT candidates I'd like to vote for? I'd rather vote for Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania for President.

Study Finds Link Between Wi-Fi and Autism {Switched.com}

Nov 21st 2007 10:24AM As the non-drug non-alcoholic non-smoking parent of two sons with autism, I find this article to summarily dismiss in a very trite flippant manner the FACT that autism has been linked to these things. To simply dismiss the findings and lump them together with other studies the writer of this article also appears to have dismissed is immature and ignorant. What one does not read is that it is vital to have children evaluated early and get the remedial help so that the impact of autism on a child's life is minimized. It is worth the years of therapy early on in the child's life. Their quality of life improves drastically when parents are educated. The studies being done are important. Any child sitting for hours in front of any screen is going to be negatively impacted--whether for autism or just plain old lethargy and lack of exercise. I am thankful for the research and the help our family has received. There is so much that can be done to help a child with autism and to support parents with autistic children.
