Dad calls from Iraq, son gets suspended {ParentDish}
Apr 18th 2008 9:50AM Incredible. And to think it happened in Texas no less. They ought fo reprimand all involved in this event. And what kind of example does that set for the other children ? That serving your country is not important ?
I hope the people involved in this at that school catch hell for what they did. It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out that they openly express disdain for the military. With educators like this, it's no surprise our kids are not receiving proper educations. What idiots.
Annoying Restaurant Trends {AOL Food Blog}
Feb 15th 2008 8:49AM I'd have to say the following things bug me at restaurants.
1) Poorly trained or untrained waitstaff. I always tip 20% even for bad service knowing servers need the money to survive. I tip more if they do a really good job. Even having a lot of sympathy for people who do the job (or anyone dealing with the general public), I have a wide tolerance for some of their behaviors. But when they are rude, rush me while eating, take food away when I'm clearly not finished, or bring everything all at the same time, then look at their watch as if they want you to eat it
all at once, it's annoying. I should be permitted at least 30-45 minutes to eat. I don't how busy the place is, or how exclusive they think they are.
2) Trio deals being pushed by chaings. Most us go to a restaurant for the main course. We go to barbecue places for the barbecue, steaks places for steaks, etc. The recent trend to bundle an appetizer, main course, and dessert together is merely a way of selling all of the items and making you think you are getting a deal. You aren't. They reduce the size and quality of the entree at the same time they are giving you the deal. Some places are reducing their entree sizes in hopes you'll still be hungry and order dessert. If people want it, the'll order it and they need to stop engaging in behavior modification to increase their profits.
3) Deceptive Menus. Is that salmon farm raised ? caught wild ? fresh ? Atlantic ? Alaskan sockeye ? There's a huge quality difference in knowing the truth about the food you are ordering and it affects the price. OutBack Steakhouse charges a healthy price for it's salmon but says nothing on it's menu about where it came from. Farmed is filled with toxins, antibiotics, and God only knows what. Caught wild is slightly better. What is fresh caught wild ? I'll translate it for you. It was hatched in a farm (toxin city), released into the wild, then caught there and not frozen. Simple huh ? Restaurants also uplabel meat, when you pay for choice, it's usually good grade instead. Honesty is the best policy and I don't mind paying for what I'm getting.
Hot Seat: Chuck Norris Hits McCain {Political Machine Blog}
Jan 22nd 2008 4:07AM I like Chuck and know he's done a lot in his career for others. But I disagree with him here.
Reagan was also criticized for being too old, and yet he took down the Soviet Union and accomplished a great deal during his Presidency. Part of that was surrounding himself with good people.
I tremendsouly respect McCain for his miliary record and for his willingness to stand alone on issues by taking stands often not popular. My major disagreements with him revolve around his immigration policies and his policies on trade.
Free trade without a level playing field is killing the middle class. Couple that with literally millions of new people coming in who will not produce enough income per person to support themselves in terms of their healthcare, education, daycare, and other social services and you have the beginnings of our decline toward becoming a third world nation.
Democracy cannot function in a two class economic system. It needs a vibrant middle class or it will die.
Starbucks' new Skinny Platform ruffles feathers {Slashfood}
Jan 21st 2008 2:59PM Why not just use the Italian word for skinny which is Magro. Then no on is offended (except Italians possibly and I think they could care less actually).
I'll have a Magro Venti Mocha ! Presto
2007 Departures: McDonald's McRib off to last roundup {WalletPop}
Jan 2nd 2008 2:36PM It's not leaving. How many times are they going to pull the same marketing trick and have people fall for it ? They'll keep bringing it back as long as it sells. Besides, Homer Simpson alone can generate enough demand to keep them selling it. He may not want to have one around his pet pig though.
Airplane Internet Access May Come with Censorship {Switched.com}
Jan 2nd 2008 2:31PM I don't mind wi-fi connectivity but please do keep cell phone use off during flight. It's bad enough enplaning and deplaning and in the terminal. People just are not aware enough of themselves to deal with it responsibly. And of course if you put wi-fi on the planes, your company will expect you work non-stop on that six hour flight. Won't that be fun ?
FAA Institutes New Bans on Laptop and Gadget Batteries on Planes {Switched.com}
Jan 2nd 2008 2:27PM A laptop, cell phone, and iPod is going to put you close to the threshold. Anything additionally is likely to put you over, such as a PDA and or blue tooth headset etc. I think this is the FAA splitting hairs while people still manage to smuggle guns on planes. They should deal with the significant and likely problems first.
Lou Dobbs to Enter Race? {Political Machine Blog}
Nov 20th 2007 11:21AM I'm really getting tired of hearing Lou being called a racist. He's very happily married to a lovely Mexican woman and has several children with her. And he's very proud of them. To the extent he had them all appear on 60 Minutes when they did a show on him.
The issue isn't about race. It's about economics. And Mexicans and Hispanics are not a "race". They are an ethnicity or national origin. Are Italian-Americans or Irish-Americans a race as well ? No they aren't. It's silly to even bring this up.
Lou Dobbs to Enter Race? {Political Machine Blog}
Nov 16th 2007 11:56AM To those who call Lou racist because of his position on illegal immigration, please know that his wife is a Mexican-American and he has two lovely children with her. He is intensely proud of his family.
He's anything but racist. And Mexicans are not a race, nor are Hispanics. They are an ethnicity and ethnic origin. The race card is misapplied and completely irrelevent. He also speaks against all illegals regardless if they originate in Europe, Asia, or South and Central America.
When you're wrong, you're wrong.
Lou Dobbs to Enter Race? {Political Machine Blog}
Nov 16th 2007 11:05AM I'd vote for Lou if he ran, but he's too smart to do so. When you run, you sacrifice your soul to the people financing the campaign. Then find yourself mired in the quick sand of self-interest in Washington.
He is doing what he does best and is best working as a monitor to keep our government and corporations on the right track.
In office, he wouldn't be able to do this anymore. He'd make a fine President, but he's serving the country already doing what he does now.
