Tecmo stock down on loss of Itagaki (Joystiq Xbox)

Jun 5th 2008 10:08PM A drop of a dollar for a share translates to millions of dollars lost for Techmo's stock funds... this is a lot of money to lose and doesn't give much of a postive attitude to boardmembers when they question Tecmo's President as to what the hell is going on.

Five Things to Consider When Buying a Laptop (Switched)

Feb 5th 2008 3:22PM Flash drives, as a main? Are you an idiot? Flash Drives are ment to be cheap temporary storage units between machines. Relying on a platform that has speed degradtion and data corruption rates as it ages is highly ignorant and foolish for a permanant storage medium.

Epic not starting on 360 UTIII until 2008 (Joystiq Xbox)

Dec 2nd 2007 12:58AM Hmm actually, the PS3 verison of Unreal Tournament 3 will be playable with usb Keyboard and Mice combos to all those saying, "It's better on Keyboard and Mouse PC's..."

Sure it won't reach the blistering high resoultions of a PC with twin 8800 640 MB towers running in SLi but the ps3 edition should be coming out in 1080p flavor for HDTV users, so it isn't going to be some craptastic 480i image on a screen such as the horrid events of Unreal Championship 1 on the orginal Xbox.

And folks, Epic is having issues in getting thrid party modifications to be released on the 360's verison due to technicalities with publishing DLC though Live and the fact these mods are mostly hand made stuff for PC users which in turn needs Epic's helping hand in converting these mods to become playable on the ps3 and Xbox 360 verisons.

@ JakeJAX

A modifcation for an Unreal Tournament game is far different than a Halo 3 Forge level edit. A PC game mod is the holy grail in why PC gaming is NOT going to die any time soon contrary to console fanboyism ignorance of that matter. A modfication or total converison ends up being more than the playing field is not just slightly re-arranged on static levels, oh no. Full blown changes are done to to the actual game engine such as whole new models for static meshes (world objects) developed with an external modler tool(s), whole new levels are built from scratch with the Unreal Engine Editor tool (supplied to PC gamers who get UTIII), new models for player characters and weapons both In-view and world view, new music creation, and most important of all is texturing additions made by scratch. All of this modding goodness is easy to disperse to the PC gaming public but with mixed results pending a gaming rig's specs and software patches to both the mod and the PC game. For a console to do this, especialy on Xbox LIve, Epic's trying to find a means where to get user created mods converted over to the Xbox 360 and then released over Xbox Live as DLC for free if possible (hence the problems with the 360 verison at the moment.) If Epic can pull off the ablity to get the most famous of mods for the PC to be converted over flawlessly to PS3 and Xbox 360, then kudos as this gives those modding teams a larger step forward to getting in the door to developer studios or becoming their own.

Virtua Fighter 5 smacks PS3, heads to 360 (Joystiq)

Dec 28th 2006 5:52AM Um, the Ps3 only has roughly 600,000 units sold so far and some stores have reported their sales of the 60 and 20 gig units have slowed down considerable (I've found some instock myself at local Gamestops and EB stores). So DBX00 is wrong in that reguard. Also wrong in his count is the Xbox 360's sales along with the Wii's. The 360 went from 4 million to 8 million within the last two quaters of the fiscal year of 2006 (thanks to games like Gears and Dead Rising) while the Wii has rocketed in the short moments after the ps3's launch to roughly 2.5 million units and still growing. Software studios will be looking at the largest possible installment base for their franchises, even if it means forgoing fanbases at times (look at Tribes franchise) and going with the largest installbase would equal the best possible chance to make a profit with the least ammount of risk. This is exactly why the ps2 became the established market leader in the current-gen race as the other systems either didn't support a targeted demograph or didn't have the installment base the studio or publisher desired.

On that note, having VF5 on both consoles IS a strong and smart move as it lessens the risk of failure for the game as long as it's a well developed one for both platforms.

Since that projector is capable of using USB as an incoming video source AND audio source at once... Can it make pancakes to boot? I just love the fresh smell of pancakes.
